Yup. Another one. Well, another three, to be precise. Sony Japan have just announced that they'll be releasing a new PS3 bundle - The "Metal Gear Solid 4 Welcome Box" - to tie-in with the release of MGS4 next month. The bundle will be released on June 12, will retail for ¥49,800, and will include a 40GB PS3, Sixaxis, a vanilla copy of MGS4 and a DualShock 3. It'll be available in all three Japanese colours: black, white and silver (both controllers will be the same colour as the console), and will be offered for a limited time only. More pics, and the presser, after the jump.

damn, i really want a ceramic white ps3 too. anyone know the release date for the us?
I'm surprised they don't throw in the box Snake hides around is as an added gift/packaging.
Mmm.. silver... shiny silver...
Puuuuuuuuurty.
Can't wait for that special edition! :)
@kwonster: As with all bundles like this, best to not expect a US release at all...
Surprisingly, I find the black to be the most attractive one. Weird, huh?
More 40GB bundles... woo.
That box is hot. Too bad those aren't 80GB models though. I feel the Japanese really need a PS2 capable model now that the 20 and 60GB were discontinued in January.
Red box -> Black PS3?
Blue -> White?
Black -> Silver?
Wait... so it gets both a Sixaxis and a DualShock 3?
.... WHAT?! @_@
@LittleBigPlaneteer: I get the feeling Sony will bring back BC in systems once PS2s stop selling. Call it a hunch, but I see it coming.
@BPMΔ: Gotta somehow get the old puppies out of the warehouse . . .
im starting to think you will see a huge surge of PS3 sales in Japan in June.... its going to be crazy.
@MelodyKitn: That would be the best idea everrrrr. Imagine flipping the box over within the box to find the game. No... that'd be weird. But I want the Nintendo Box and all of the Plant Chapter Cardboard Boxes as collectors items.
Weird...the MGS4 box art on the boxes there is the US box art, not the JPN/EU box art. Maybe the US is getting a 40GB bundle too?
That's nice, but still...
When in the bloody hell are us Americans going to be allowed to preorder our bundle?!
Konami... you are running out of time...
damn can´t they imagine that we could buy all that amazing stuff too
why only japn love
I'm still waiting for the PS3 painted after Snake's box... or at least get it as a bonus.
@ph15h needs a nu job: I believe mini-box collectible should be created! ...then at least our figures would have something to hide in...
I'm still waiting for -any- bundle to be announced in the UK.
As far as i know, we aren't even getting the DualShock3 and MGS4 is only a month or so away now...
Anyone know anything ?
Hmmm... sorry Sony, your time back in my house has not come yet.
@Disdain: Yep, would of been really nice too finally get a BC console and a DS3 PS3, but they've left it far too long to announce.... fingers crossed though.
@Ryuujin1024:
I'm gonna assume we will get the dualshock, there is still a month to go. Hopefully we won't be let down.
Goot my £400 ready and waiting =p
Oh common seriously, where are the models that can actually play PS2 games...
@Luke Plunkett: Plus, I'd take the American 80GB bundle with one DS3 and the ability to play PS2 games over this bundle.
*Glares at SCEE*
Guess I can keep on dreaming...
Bring it to Australia!
I have money to throw at you!
:'(
@BPMΔ: Who would want a SIXAXIS... AND a Dual Shock 3? I can't understand that logic.
Gimme two Dual Shock 3s any day!
seriously.. theres 1TB hdds today why they keep using those little 40gbs ones, 300gb at least would sound more reasonable they are so cheap..
Sony is rolling out the bundles like nobody's business, my question is.... where is the marketing hype? commercials,tie in promotions,print ads,etc.
that's what want to know.
Dude! Gotta sell them system... gotta keep them moving at a brisk pace! Anything goes...
@Fenris Wolf: The logic is Sony want to empty all the remain sixaxis stock. Actually, the sixaxis is no longer made, so just want to discard all the remainings
Anyone wanting to buy a 40GB should IMMEDIATELY buy a larger hard drive and install it before putting anything on the system.
With all the mandatory 5 GB installs and the system lasting for 10 years, you'd want to do that now instead of later down the road.
@ChiChi_BBQ: I agree with this. I bought a 160gig hard drive for 75 bucks just to make sure I don't ever have to delete game installs for a long time.
Question. Are PS3's region free? From the things I've read they are region-free for games, but my concern is movies. I'd import the white or silver if they were, but I get the feeling they aren't region free for movies as that was always one of the trumpeted features of HD-DVD drives.
mva5580:
most of the blu-ray movies that have been released are region-free. however, some have been region encoded.
I would google the film in question that you're after prior to purchasing to ensure that it's region-free if you decide to persue a jp ps3.
@j.m.ratkos: Thanks man I appreciate it. Actually I already have a pretty good amount of Blu-Ray's, so I'll check into those first and see where they fall. I'm hoping they're compatible because I'd really like to score me one of those alt. color PS3's.
Well I did a bit of research, and this website [bluray.liesinc.net] shows information for all Blu-Rays and whether or not they're region free.
The good news it seems like the great majority of Blu-Rays that I personally own are region free. The bad news is that The Simpsons Movie, Talladega Nights, and Predator aren't. Now I have a decision to make. I guess I could just import some Blu-Rays that I really want which aren't region free, but I don't know. q
well..good for Japan.
Whats up with all the MGS4 bundles in JPN? I thought Metal Gear did not sell there as well as it sold here.
Maybe they are trying to change that with all the bundles.
I am wishing these come to North America.
Oh my god! A white PS3... How I want to wallow in it's presence...
anyone know that ps3 painting website? like get it painted for like $60...
Nice, Really nice.. but wheres the 80 gig models or 60's no backwards compatible at all for the 40's!!!! nice box art though!
Is the US bundle going to be 40 gig or larger? And will it have b.c.?
When you turn the PS3 on for the first time, you get the choice to set your region to USA, making it basically an American PS3, no? If that's true, I'll probably just ebay the system...
I can't wait for the pie graph that will follow June 12th, waka waka waka
@mva5580:
Well I actually have a ceramic white JPN one and I don't really have any problems playing most of the Blu-Rays I've bought--pretty much all my BRs are US version release. Actually as far as Blu-Ray goes, unlike w/ DVDs, US and JPN (and I believe Hong Kong is included too) both share the same BR region coding "A". So you shouldn't have any issues playing Taledaga Nights, The Simpsons, and your Predator BRs.
Side note though....I'm still mad as hell JPN slipped in and dropped that damn satin silver AFTER I bought my ceramic white PS3. >_<
@MizzDiva: That is excellent information, thank you very much for that! In my searches for compatibility I didn't see any site mention that the US and Japan share the same region for Blu-Ray. That makes it very easy! DVD's are obviously not going to work, but hell if anything I'll pick up a stand alone. Cheap as hell anyway.
Now I just need to figure out the best way to import this thing, or of course just hope that the decide to bring it the US.
@mva5580: No prob! Yeah, I still use my regular (region-free) DVD player to play my DVDs on so it's not that big of a deal to me either--besides you can still play region "0" disc on any sort of PS3 anyway.
But as for the best place to import one, try: www.play-asia.com
That's where I got mines. They got a least the most decent import price for JP systems and you won't have to worry about customs or VAT (if you're a US gamer that is).
