RE: Ugh
Soba or udon? I made two damn tasty bowls of udon for dinner today. Getting so good at heating stuff up! Boiling water is really your friend. Really.

Take out.
I'm not too picky when it comes too noodles; I love kitsune udon, zaru soba, etc. More than both though I like ramen, but it's harder to make!
Soba!
Udon
I really wish I knew what that stuff was... than maybe you'd be making me hungry... otherwise its just nonsense talk to me...
Both? Oh, I loves me some noodles.
I've heard an electric kettle is a real time saver when it comes to cooking. Cuts all that time you spend waiting for water to boil right out of the equation.
Udon all the way.
@WickedOrange: Look it up.
Soba. For some reason, I always get scared that I'll choke on udon cause they're bigger. :( Silly me...
Udon,most definitely.
While I'm sure soba is probably healthier, since everything 'wheaty' is generally always better for you than anything just plain 'white', I *love* me some udon.
soba
Udon!
@teh_joe: no, wait i take that back. udon! final answer
udon, I am not a big soba fan.
Pho Ga, nothing quite like a rice based noodle with chicken from Vietnam. Be sure to put a lot of that Rooster hot sauce in there. :)
soba or ramen for me, please
Udon, ftw!
Possible spoiler: the question is somehow connected to The World Ends With You...
Udon, noodles FTW
I like both, but udon is my favorite. The chewy texture is just perfect.
Oh, how gaming related.
not
Udon. definitely udon.
Udon, no contest
If noodles were SF2 characters, soba is Ryu and udon is Ken.
So obviously Udon is better! :P
@Rogz: Oh what a relavant and useful comment that was!
Not.
*paints Rogz*
To me how you prepare the noodles matters a whole lot more than what kind.
Or does saying just "soba" or "udon" imply a certain type of preparation as well as the kind of noodle?
Udon for me please! Mmmmmmmm.
Nice think tasty udon done in a simple dashi stock, with spring onions. Kare udon also, mmmmmm.
According to Wikipedia:
Udon (Japanese: うどん or 饂飩) is a type of thick wheat-based noodle popular in Japanese cuisine.Udon is usually served hot as noodle soup in a mildly flavoured broth, in its simplest form as kake udon, served in kakejiru made of dashi, soy sauce (shōyu), and mirin. It is usually topped with thinly chopped scallions. Other common toppings include tempura, often prawn or kakiage (a type of mixed tempura fritter), or abura age, a type of deep-fried tofu pockets seasoned with sugar, mirin, and soy sauce. A thin slice of kamaboko, a halfmoon-shaped fish cake, is often added. Shichimi and beni shoga can be added to taste.
The flavor of broth and topping vary from region to region. Usually, dark brown broth, made from dark soy sauce (koikuchi shōyu) is used in eastern Japan, and light brown broth, made from light soy sauce (usukuchi shōyu) is used in western Japan. This is even noticeable in packaged instant noodles, which are often sold in two different versions for east and west.
Soba (そば or 蕎麦, Soba?) is a type of thin Japanese noodle made from buckwheat flour. It is served either chilled with a dipping sauce, or in hot broth as a noodle soup. Moreover, it is not uncommon in Japan to refer to any thin noodle as soba in contrast to udon which are thick noodles made from wheat.
Thick even! hehe, soz.
I too vote Udon.
Soba, I love the firmer texture and slightly nutty flavor.
Big Bowl for me :)
Udon, FTW!
@DaiMacculate:
That's a lie and you know it. Besides, Chun-Li supports the mainland Asian noodles, so I automatically win!
I love them both. Can't decide!
Soba cause you can cook it 2 minutes
some shoju, some onion thingy, and that's it.
Or go eat udon outside :D
Udon for me please
Soba - or ramen - or yakisoba - or yakiudon...
Nah - just Soba, better al dente texture.
@Rogz: Hey, if you like you can look at life as just one big game. the choices we make affect the story later on. It is just about perspective :P btw, soba is the way to go!
I love noodles of any kind. However, I have to pick Udon!
@Pezdispenser: I admit no deceit! It is you who seems to be spouting falsehoods!
*slaps with wet Udon noodle*
En Garde, sir!
Yakisoba!! ^_^
Braaaaaaaaains... I mean, soba.
@DaiMacculate:
HoHo! A Challenge!
*Banh Pho Combo Attack*
yakiniku plz
Yeah, I have to go with Udon for this one, I love their art.
I kid! I kid! I do like udon, over soba, though ... not that I would turn down an offer of soba :D
Linguine
If I HAVE to chose between those two, soba.
Ramen for me, but I have never been able to figure out how to make it.
Any time I try and find out how to actually make ramen I only find info on recipes using the instant ramen packages. What I want is to make the noodles themselves. There is a great ramen place here in denver, but it isn't that close to me so I must discover how to make the noodles for myself.
Baring that, soba and udon are equal for me.
I'm picking udon since I never try soba.
In summer, nothing beats cold soba!
Unfortunately, it's hard as hell to find in the US unless you make it yourself. Damn my lack of cooking skills!
udon
Soba is great cold, I'm not fond of hot soba, except Yaki-soba. Udon is great every way. especially Nabe-yaki
Phở! Oh wait, that's not one of the choices. Udon all the way then.
how about you mix them both together ? sure it might be a little more work but i think it'll be worth it !
Udon, without a doubt.
No question whatsoever: soba!
Speaking of, I have a great soba/yakitori recommendation if you wanna travel 2 1/2 hours to get to it.
Hmm, this calls for one of the great mashups of all time, buckwheat udon!.
Udon.
That stuff is so good!!
Can I say Ramen? The kinds of broths that accompany Ramen are the most refreshing.
