As the minimal headline suggests, Sony's long awaited Escher-esque 3D puzzler echochrome will arrive digitally on North American shores tomorrow. The PlayStation 3 and PSP versions will each ring up at $9.99 and features 56 platform specific, ultimately controller flinging puzzles. I'm off to sell a pint to scrounge up the funds for both.

Hell yeaH! The demo was awesome for both!
I'm really looking forward to this, does anyone know when the European release will be?
Wow I want this game but (at-least for me) this is a terrible time to be releasing it.
SOLD!
Wait, $9.99? I've apparently been living under a rock all year. That seems worth it!
@liquid_kore: I'm interested in the game, too, but I'm not going to allow myself to spend so much money playing so many games and ending up not enjoying them as much as I could have.
This purchase will have to wait quite a while.
@liquid_kore: Same, i was having crazy fun with the demo =p but gta just stole some money from me so i gotta give it some love and play it, then mgs4 when gtaiv love dies off =/
Getting it for my PSP, can't wait :D
@badasscat: It was gonna be $20 for the Ps3 version, and $40 for the PsP version, but they came to their senses and made this a great bargain, and a day-1 buy for me.
@@liquid_kore: Very true, but I'm still getting it. I'll probably become addicted to it and quickly beat it or get to levels that I can't beat and go back to GTAIV.
This gets a big "meh" from me. I played the Japanese PSP version. While it was novel the first few times on the first few levels, it got a bit tedious and boring not even half-way through. However, I do like that the different game types make you approach the same levels differently.
Sell a pint?
Of blood or semen?
crafty of them... so this probably means it's not remote play enabled and if I want to play it on both, like pixeljunk monsters, I'll spend 19.98?
Can someone confirm or deny?
I do love this game... and luckily I'm the one person in the world that really has very little interest in playing GTAIV... not that I have free time anyway...
its not like being Charleton Heston in the Omega Man...
@Cat-Duck:
Blemen
$9.99? That's a bargain for 56 levels! I'm in.
@Ehardergardens:
I don't think there's remote play unfortunately. Unless they've kept it a well guarded secret or something.
Also just wanted to say that I saw The Omega Man for the first time on Monday :D
I don't care about the 'full' PS3 games, but 'mini' ones like this, Calling All Cars and Little Big Planet are making me jealous!
still not enough of em tho to justify me buying a cheap Blu-Ray player.
if they bring out another half-dozen by the end of the year tho, and we'll see.
thats assuming XNA this fall / winter doesn't fill the gap on the 360.
this will be awesome once the MGO beta is over.
Let's not kid ourselves, GTA is pretty much endless anyway. I guess my grandchildren will have to finish the campaign for me in like 50 years.
Platform-specific puzzles? Nooooo, curse you, Sonyzz! Now I have to get both. Or maybe wait until I've smashed my DualShock before I move on to the PSP.
@Ehardergardens:
Oh, I just found out that the PS3 and PSP versions will each have 56 unique levels, so at least they're not just carbon copies of each other. Remote play would have been cool though.

Just in time for the Canadian PSN price drops. Huzzah!
Oh man, I need more monies.
this is awesome. It's also good to hear the 2 versions are different.
Now they just need to hurry up with home and little big planet.
@LittleBigPlaneteer: Something people haven't figured out yet: The PsP versions levels will be on the Ps3 within 48 hours.
The game has Level-Maker.
I can bet you I'm not the only guy who realized somebody will just copy all the stages from the PsP version onto the Ps3.
Sure, it'll probably happen for the PsP version too, but I imagine that taking longer.
This is awesome news... although probably only to be really enjoyed by mutant freaks like myself who don't care for GTA.
I also hate kittens.
@LittleBigPlaneteer: Thanks for that info, oddly after being in my netflix queue untouched for a couple of years, it arrived for me the day after I saw I am Legend.
so this means they will probably indeed be getting 19.98 from me, those sneaky sneaks.
@HaydenTenno: indeed. the demo grabbed my attention big time.
Outstanding. The demo had me craving for more, and the price is right.
Demo was so nice -- such an easy $10 buy for me.
$10? That's worth it.
For some reason I thought this little anticipated game would come out for $20 in disc format. I guess it is better for download only, and it shouldn't be of a large size judging by the demo.
I imported a PSP copy, and it really is amazing. Biggest mind-fuck I've played in a long time; whole thing is like a mash of M.C. Escher and Lemmings.
Automatic purchase. Echochrome is one of the most innovative puzzle games in years. Of course, I do have an M.C. Escher print hanging above my desk right now, so maybe I'm a little biased.
@Cat-Duck:
A pint of semen! That's both impressive and icky at the same time.
Oh hell yes!
I pray this will come to Europe stores tomorrow too. Knowing our luck, probably not.
I can't resist buying this, not at that price! Awesome game!
Each one is about $10 cheaper than I expected, so a good deal IMO. Don't know if I'll get both- have to play with the PSP demo an see if the controls work for me. PS3 is a no brainer, if for nothing else but the chance to design levels that *might* get into a future add-on (thinking cap ON).
The fact that we get this as digital download only, with half the content of the Asian edition really shows just how much contempt Sony has for North America.
Am I the only one who thought the female voice in the Japanese demo was FAR superior to the one in the US demo? I hope I have a choice in the full version but I will be buying this immediately regardless. Just odd that they would change an english voice when porting the game from japan to north america...
@Everyoneshouldbekilled:
Wow. See, i didnt know that. and with there being two versions of this... NO SALE!!
@Ehardergardens:
No remote play...sorry
@Everyoneshouldbekilled:
All DLC will be free,so I wouldn't worry too much.
@EveryoneShouldBeKilled:
Your comment appeared to me on the main page, but I don't see it here.
Sony has no contempt for America, and your assumption reeks of biased lame-ass-osity. This game is just fine for a digital download and doesn't need to be released on a UMD for the PSP. Big fucking deal, if you don't like it, don't buy it. I think it's pretty silly to go about spouting piss & vinegar like this is somehow a dick move on Sony's part. It isn't. It's an inventive product offered on the cheap... at least, that's my take on the matter.
Yay!!! This totally makes my week, I have been totally stoked about Echochrome for what feels like forever.
@Everyoneshouldbekilled: I wouldn't be too worried about the "content" since their is a level designer packed in and they have said that "The best of the PS3 user-created levels submitted to the developers will be distributed for free to PS3 version owners!". Free DLC? Sounds good to me.
God, my head hurts looking at that picture.
This is going to be an instant buy. Look at that. I doubt i can make any levels of that caliber but i will try :D
Yes! And I because of new Canadian price adjustments I can save a whole fucking dollar! Anyway I'm completely looking forward to the release and am both kind of shocked how fast the announcement came and why it took so long to release this game. Don't get me wrong I love the style and appreciate it, I just find it a bit puzzling why it would take so long to create and release, unless they were simply building more and more...and more...puzzles.
Free user created, developed screened content? Hell yeah!
Hm...only 56? It's a good deal for $9.99 but puzzle games like this should have at least 100 on each platform.
@Replica23: Nice, I finally get to cash in on that. Sold immediately.
@pot3ntial2suck:
I agree, I was like WTF....
So that will be mid-Feburary 2009 for Europe then, yes?
@Everyoneshouldbekilled: Boy, you ain't seen what the situation is like in Europe. You're minted compared to us.
I played the demo for echochome. It sure is intriguing, but I find that the "jump" pefrom unexpectedly sometimes. Some time it just jump to it's death when I expect it to jump on the platform. It's like it on a different plane when you expect it to be on the same one...according to the perspective rule.
Play-Asia for me then, I want the PSP disc version.
So... where is it?
i'm buying, it's fucking cheap.
if it was 40 for PSP, i would play pirated version.
but now, fucking ten bucks are fucking cheap. every1 buy nao
I'll buy it if it's ever reduced to $5.
