Assault Heroes remains one of the best arcade shooter experiences on Xbox Live Arcade today - exactly the sort of game I used to play in arcades with my friends back in the day. Now Wanako Studios is readying Assault Heroes 2 for release next month, promising all of the action of the original and more. The new game adds hijackable enemy vehicles entering the mix, as well as taking the firefight into outer space for the first time. The game is due out on XBLA May 14th for the standard fee of 800 Microsoft points. In honor of the release date announcement, here's enough screens to create your own little Assault Heroes 2 flipbook.

Whenever I see the word "Heroes" I think of No More Heroes now.
Awesome! I thought that the first one was really fun, so I'm definitely looking forward to this.
Damn, the engine looks better too!
I enjoyed the trial but wasn't moved enough to throw out the points.
Maybe this time it will have enough to sway me around. I'd welcome it.
Played it, liked it, will buy
I loved the 1st so I'm definitely down for more!
oops, forgot to ask ... will it still be 2 player? 4 player would be awesome!
The first one was my first XBLA purchase, and I loved it. Intense arcade action done right, with plenty of bosses and good pacing. If this improves onthe first one, definitely picking it up.
@NPlace: Agree this game was one of my first purchases for XBLA as well. I loved it.
This one looks much more vertical than the first one. The screen shot with the tree going up above the camera, it looks awesome.
Sadly, I didn't feel it was different enough from the first one.
I'm very excited about this, the first is my favorite XBLA game. The picture fourth from the end is a space scene -- is that a cut-scene or a 3D space shooter level?
I agree with Fahey. Assault Heroes is the type of game I would have pumped quarter after quarter into for hours on end if it was in one of the many nearby arcades back when they were still around. I'm sure I'll get #2, but not until I'm totally fried on my current time consumer and the next big one on the horizon.
Assault Heroes was pretty good but Capcom's Commando 3 (which is pretty much the same type of game) was supposed to be out by the end of April so now I'm wondering when that is supposed to hit.
I was looking forward to that a lot more, and not even because it is going to include the Beta for SSFII HD.
