Forget for a moment this is still "unconfirmed", but according to magazine EGM, Capcom's Street Fighter IV isn't being developed by Capcom — but outsourced to another Osaka developer. That's right, apparently DIMPS is working on the game. DIMPS was founded by former SNK devs and is best known for its excellent Rumble Fish fighters along with churning out run-of-the-mill Dragon Ball Z games. Another DIMPS fun fact: That FPS Gundam game they develped for the Xbox 360 wasn't really being developed by them, but apparently outsourced to a Korean dev who's did a shitty job on it. Anyway! Also, forget for a moment that Capcom USA has been saying that Street Fighter IV is being developed internally. One more thing, forget for a moment that we've been going on about DIMPS doing SFIV since, well, last year. Personally, I don't care if Capcom or DIMPS does the game — just don't make it sucky, m'kay?

I care because it makes me nervous that Capcom feels the need to lie.
It's like they think, "Alright. Everyone will expect the game to suck if we tell the truth, and rightfully so. Let's lie and hope the game doesn't suck so we can prove doubters wrong."
...the problem is, what happens if it does?
As you basically say, as long as it's good who cares who makes it
Awwww, no fair!
If this is true, I may actually end up not liking this game. Capcom always had a way of making their beat em ups feel better than the competitions. IMHO, SNK games felt a bit, I don't know, floaty maybe.
I agree with the final comment, "Don't make it sucky"
Needs a picture of a red Henry Rollins from the "Liar" video.
@karasu is my homeboy:
Think about it this way. Capcom is in Osaka. DIMPS is in Osaka. They're separated by like 30 minutes on the subway.
Capcom asked them to do the game, apparently. You can bet Capcom is checking the game on a constant basis. So rest easy!
@Brian Ashcraft: Alright, that makes me feel better. That sounds good.
I just have really high hopes for this game and I want it to be the best possible.
By Dimps? the same guys of DBZ Budokao? now i understand why the game has long and climatic Ultra Supers...
I mean Budokai... sorry, my keyboard sucks.
I'd be fine with DIMPS making it - Budokai 3 (not Tenkaichi 3) was Godly.
@Brian Ashcraft: Does organized crime have anything to do with this? :(
Henry Rollins would be an awesome SF character.
ruh roh
@suburbancowboy: True dat.
That's my best streetwise voice
I quite like DIMPS, actually. They're the only people making halfway decent Sonic games at the moment.
Former SNK devs? Sign me up for a copy!
@KaneRobot: Actually, a picture of that guy from big fat liar would be much better.
Anyway, as long as King of Fighter XII is still good, who cares who makes it.
Wait: the Rumble Fish fighting games were good???
I've always wondered, what is the point of hiding the developers? There's that company TOSE, that has made a huge amount of games for Nintendo, well known ones as well, but hardly anyone has heard of TOSE.
I read that Capcom outsourced the game to the original team members who worked on SFII no matter where they currently are employed. There was a feature in gamesTM about it this month.
@Antihippy: And yes, I know that we're talking about SF4.
I guess it makes sense.... it's been years since Capcom tried to make a decent fighter and they've lost most (all?) of the key people who worked on the original SF games.. so someone like DIMPS would be a better choice because they likely have more employees with fighting game experience than Capcom does these days.
there's a BIG difference between games produced in the west and games produced in the west (graphically).
compare the graphics of MGS4 to GTA4 for example. SF4 looks too good to be the work of Capcom USA alone......
My theory? Nobody's lying.
Game developed by Capcom internally (for arcade), ported for consoles by Dimps.
That explains Chun-Li's frankenstein body. :p
If it's true, that would explain why it looks so fast, fluid, and responsive! Good news to me anyway...
Didn't we knew that for a while ?
I'm pretty sure I remember talking about it with some friends months ago...
Anyway, I don't like any DIMPS game I played, be it the first Budokai games or the godawful Tales of the Tempest (for instance).
And even if it's not outsourced anymore, MSG : Operation Troy doesn't look much good either. I REALLY dig Gundam, but this game looks WRONG.
But, hey ! With Capcom surpervising the thing, SFIV could still turn out to be good !
Kinda like most Level5 RPGs turn out to have some major flaws (remember Rogue Galaxy) but when they worked on DraQueVIII with Square-Enix, they actually did a VERY nice work, to say the least.
am i the only person that skipped the whore article at first glance, only to pose the question "why the hell does 50 cent get a game (and TWO at that) and hank has NONE?"
the henry rollins game would be big......
Still uneasy about this.
It's a AAA title to be and you are outsourcing it?
What in the world is Capcom so busy on that they can't do this?
Ha, request granted.
Thanks Kotaku, u r nummer one and best.
This is just well...Just Special... My coffee is gonna taste extra good this morning. What is with capcom and street fighter? they used to be a great couple... they now are going through a separation where neither wants to see each other because of an affair. damn you capcom pay attention to your woman!
haha rollins
This has been known for a while. It IS common practice with them. For example, CODE: Veronica (all versions) was developed by Nextech and the Gun Survivor games were developed by Cavia. Likewise for the recent Umbrella Chronicles, and even RE Zero to a certain extent.
@jfx316: Well, he was Mace Griffin...
But yes, he sorta deserves better than that.
I'm very disappointed. First off, SF is a highly regarded series and shouldn't be handled by any one else other then capcom. Now, I'm glad they hired a man who is very committed to making this the best game it can possibly be. Really, I wish they would announce these things in the very beginning to prevent a backlash from the gaming community. While its just games to everyone else, some people take these kinds of news very passionately..and that passion is likely to cause a stir. Enough to stire a couple of cents on Capcom's stock
Keith Morris > Henry Rollins.
With that out of the way I still think SFIV will be worth the wait. You can have the same staff of a stellar game work without any firm direction and churn out crap. I think these guys will do good under Yoshinori Ono.
Keith Morris > Henry Rollins.
Since that pic isn't from a Black Flag album, who cares?
Who is Henry Rollins and why is he referenced here?
Atleast it's ex-SNK members who have made countless fighting games and not some no name run of the mill company. I will welcome it with open arms.
@BillyLee:
Henry Rollins for you:
+ Watch video
And yes, he'd be a GREAT Street Fighter Character.
@KaneRobot: wow, apparently ask and you shall receive. Wielding the power you have must truly be an awesome experience! :lol:
@BillyLee: YOu got no Culture...No culture at all
This rumor was floated last year by 1up.
[www.1up.com]
Heh, explains why the game moves like a 3D KOF game.
@new_pornographer: i'm not choosing. both keith and henry were awesome BF frontmen. black flag, in general, were pretty much bulletproof.
can we agree that black flag wipes the floor with any band out now?
If Capcom AREN'T making it, I might actually buy it.
@jfx316: Hey, Hank was in Def Jam: Fight for NY!
@DorkimusPrime: I promise to only use this power to generate music debates that have nothing to do with the story at hand.
@jfx316: No, but we can agree they wipe the floor with most bands out now.
There's always XII...
@Mansteak: Wasn't Henry Rollins also in that game?
Anyways, I'm chiming in on this subject but Rollins is seriously one of my favorite people (his show on IFC is awesome) and because regardless of whether or not the game is developed internally, do you really think Capcom is going to let someone else fuck up one of their flagship franchies?
However, going along with that I gotta wonder why exactly is it being outsourced to another studio?
@jfx316: they definitely wipe the floor with any current 'hardcore' band out there now, cept for maybe bad brains as they're still around and their music is still awesome.
Didn't they say this when the EGM issue came out a long time ago?
DIMPS also developed Sonic Rush, Sonic Rush Adventure, and is developing the Wii version of Sonic Unleashed.
i thought this was actually confirmed info from awhile ago? DIMPS is cool so no worries at all.
Regardless of Capcom sort of lying about the whole thing, the loketest reports are positive so I don't really care who's developing at this point. But...
@Brian Ashcraft: I think you might have earned a couple "I told you so"s. :p Sorry I gave you shit over the Dimps stuff in the past.
(still off subject)
@chantron:
Is that show still on? It is a great show. I see clips of it on YouTube -- made me wish I had cable.
@Kempatsu:
You're forgetting that the core staff who worked on the SF games in the 90's up to the VS games have left Capcom.
Funamizu left Capcom in 2004 along with others. Others like Itsuno worked on the DMC series.
But this shouldn't come as a surprise. The fighter version of Sengoku Basara was given to Arc Systems.
uh? this was common knowledge back when the game was initally announced, whats with the surprise 6 months down the line?
@Grave:
No worries!
@SG79:
Itsuno is a good dude.
@chantron: ohh. bad brains. wow. add fugazi and it's the best music in the world. i'm rocking Repeater on my PSP. (my ipod crapped out)
kids don't have jack for musical tastes. other than the the dillinger escape plan and meshuggah, (who i'm seeing in cleveland next tuesday) hardcore and metal are bullshit.
@Mansteak: i mean a full on, fleshed out, rollins game. hank running around in an open world, slapping politicians and boys in shitty bands with too much makeup.
developers, this idea is money in the bank. just throw me alittle somethin' something when you hook it up.....
