Eagle-eyed reader Byron has pointed us towards a job listing on SCEA's website, for an "Online Gameplay Programmer", who will "join the team behind the critically acclaimed AAA titles "God of War" and "God of War II." Interesting, interesting. That doesn't say online programmer, it says online gameplay programmer. If this is indeed for GoWIII, and not some other project, anyone for a Kratos v Kratos battle for loin-cloth supremacy? Or perhaps a Kratos & Kratos co-op skip-along?

That'd be pointless.
Ummm, this reminds me of the insane battles that happened in Jedi outcast on xbox live, flashy swords flailing about this way and that.
@Kayeliminal Antithesis: You're right. No way would that sell on any Playstation console.
Not surprising. The director said a long time ago that they'd add in multiplayer if they could do something unique with it.
God of War MMORPG FTW!!!
DO WANT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As long as the single-player experience doesn't suffer as a result of resources being shifted to work on the multi-player, then I'm fine with it.
I could do with some god on god action.
@kylenalepa:
Considering the fact that they are hiring new people to help with multiplayer i doubt they're shifting much resources from single player to online.
This would be absolutely terrible. My money's on some kind of GoW-related Home development.
This adds a whole new dynamic to the sex minigame.
Hopefully it's an MMO.
God of Warcraft, anyone?
@IGoogledMurder: Now you too can have sex with wenches... in home?!?
Um, create your own God-Like dude, give him special traits. Arena Battles. Totally.
QTE orgies or monster slayings. maybe a combination?
@nyaz: Well, Home is already pretty much Second Life, right?
Why have none of you considered co-op?
Maybe God of War 3 will have/support online co-op? Or maybe the team behind the previous games is just working on another project.
@Luke Plunkett: Because a massive Orgy would be way better!
Seems more likely to me they're prepping up for their next game. GoW is supposed to be a trilogy, after all.
@ Luke Plunkett: thats the first thing i thought. hence the orgy and monster killing.
Couldn't this just be some kinda co-op mode to make God of War more casual by Sony? The good player (usually a guy) controls Kratos while the casual player (played by the guy's girlfriend) can control one of the Olympus whore to give him head to restore his heath when he's injured... kinda like collecting stars in SMG... It could work O_o
@Moonshadow101: Definitely a possibility. Though GoW III's at least a year off.
Hmm...GoW III is a battle between the gods and titans, so I can see them taking that battle online.
It would be cool if players are randomly assigned a god/titan and then they battle it out on a large map against their foes.
On-line might be nice, but its something I could live without. I'd rather have more accomplishments. Not to be a game-whore like most, but to challenge me. I don't know why but Sony has already put out two games that I've managed to unlock everything. Normally I'd just beat the game and be content but I feel great that I'm doing things I normally wouldn't have touched.
@okenny :): Someone just punched me in the back of the head (I'm bleeding from the nose) to let me know how stupid I am for implying the SMG, being an Nintendo title, was capable of supporting online, I apologies... apparently some things aren't joking matters (JASON!!!)
... Ok, that's corrected :(
@Sparx: How does Athena play?
@Kj719:
Now that would be an awesome idea. Each player controls a different colored Kratos in representation of a different god or titan. Like yellow clothed for Zeus, green for Atemis, pink for Hera, black for Hades, etc...
Yeah. I love that idea.
@Luke Plunkett: Why have none of you considered co-op?
Because nobody wants to even consider that online in a GoW game could be done in a way that was actually "good"?
yes.
@Sparx: I actually meant playing as the actual god, like team Titan can have players playing as Atlas and Cronos (and Kratos since he joined them) against team Gods like Hades and Zeus.
You could have a VIP type match where team Titans tries to take out Zeus while team Gods trying to take out Kratos.
and thus ending the respect we all have for GOW...
@Kj719:
Yeah I caught that after I posted and read it again. But really either could work fine.
SO GoW will have multiplayer? Excuse me while I go wash my underwear. What gets out semen the best?
@CancerMan: Excuse me, I don't understand that. How can some online thing make us lose all the respect we have for GoW? Are you one of those guys angry at Vader in Soul Calibur IV?
@CancerMan:
Speak for yourself. I still like God of War.
Well people bitch about nearly every game that doesn't have a online mode so why not.
I really don't see a point to it myself. Unless your player 2 get to be Kratos' twin brother with blue lines instead for red.
@Kayeliminal Antithesis:
How can you say it's pointless when you have no idea what it entails? Your comment is pointless if anything.
God of War is the best Action series I've played...Multiplayer may ruin it.
@Amazon_Chris:
I don't see how...
Single player is rarely if ever jeopardized because of online play. MGS4 is prbably the best stealth action and MGO isn't ruining it. GTA4 is the best sandbox game and multiplayer isn't runing that, so why exactly would multiplayer ruin the single player aspect of GOWIII? If anything it adds a ton more replay value.
I like how people just are so pessimistic about something we know jack shit about right now. Way to go guys!
The people complaining aboot this right now are the same ones who buy Madden and all the other sports titles every year even though it's the same fucking game.
It's the reason EA has become the evil empire and Ubi runs every decent game they make into the ground with crappy follow ups (R6V 2).
TIMES ARE CHANGING PEOPLE!!!
I wish I could say this nicely, but without online in this day and age means seath for a videogame.
If online for GOW happens, then I think they're smart. No disrepect, but GOW was fun after 1 or 2 playthroughs, but sometimes you wish for a little more considering how expensive games are.
On another note, Naughty Dog better get some online for Drake's Fortune 2 or something to up the replay value.
@dadeisvenm: Yeah throw a few different classes in the god of war universe, and they don't even have to go the WoW route. Just do a Gaunltet 3D style game where everything at the end is an epic raid boss. Lord knows they know how to do boss battles.
Co-Op, but I wouldn't want to see some expansive God of War MMO. It would be to hectic and I don't like good game franchises becoming a social phenomenon (Warcraft 4 plz... no more WoW) Online Co-Op... *waits*
I know that a bunch a gamers make pressure to have online play in every damn way. But, did GoW makers had to fall for that pressure ?
Maybe they'll come up with something good, but I prefer to keep my doubts.
@AverageJoes: The association your making is probably one of the worst I've ever seen !
@Shteve: What? The association that people don't want anything new to happen to "their" beloved games? That they want the same exact product again and again?
Or that EA and Ubi have figured out they they can just keep shelling out the same shit over and over and the uninformed/unintelligent masses will pay them full price for it?
What pressure? Bioshock has no online component.
I don't see why having online will suck and automatically make the single player suck.
It's sky is falling group-think at its worst.
Maybe if we get enough people riled up, we can invade the Santa Monica offices on the pretense of "liberating" the staffers and the game? We'll be greeted as liberators and heroes and they'll throw rose petals in front of us as we march in.
Then we'll hold elections to restaff and then leave and the place will run itself and give us the game for cheaper. It shouldn't take more than 6 months. A year, tops.
There are games that need MP, and there are games that don't. GOW is one that doesn't need it.
@AverageJoes: Love how you act like you doesn't seem to know what I'm refering to. I don't know, maybe about the association you made between pessimist people about online play in GoW and people who buy sports games, 4 comments before mine.
Yeah, that's what I was refering to.
"I hate pessimist people about online play in GoW and I hate people who buy sports games like Madden every year too. So if I hate both, it probably meens they're the same people ! DAHHHHHH !"
Great reasoning !
GoW II is totally going to make me get a PS3, but I can't imagine what an online component would look like. Best case would be co-op (could actually be good), worst would be some type of terrible death..match..thing?
@Interstella5555: Sorry, that should have been "GoW III"
@Pata-pwn(TM?): Adding multi player aspects takes space on the disk, as well as it forces compromises in the code to be made.
The story would have to be shorter to accommodate the multi player portion of the game.
Now, if the multiplayer can somehow be a downloadable add on, then I'm all for it.
