Think Guitar Hero jumped the proverbial shark with a DS version? You may wish to avert your gaze from this, then. Activision have released a browser-based version of the game, which is "played" using the keypad while you listen to crackly, low-quality versions songs by Living Color, Alice Cooper and Lions. Plays like a pig, but then, it doesn't cost you a cent, either.

I duno if im doing it wrong or what but, thats hella hard.
Wow.
Lame.
Hmmm....I can't seem to hit ONE SINGLE NOTE.
Lame as monkies.
But I commend the effort.
Oh shit, lol at reading instructions! Use ENTER to strum >.>
@HotFootMcCook: Commend the effort? That Crap!? That's when you condemn the effort. Plays like a pig is right.
thats just annoying, i had trouble on the apparently easy song, and i can do expert on guitar hero III
Damnit Activision. They've taken what was once one of my favorite games, and turned it into this crap. GH3 wasn't all that good, next the Aerosmith game, then the DS, then that terrible crap portable thing, this, constant raping of the series. I'm done with GH, it's now all Rock Band for me.
Why did they pick songs that were going to be specifically bad with that control type? :(
@TheDoomer:
Sums my feelings up in a sentence. They've squeezed all of the juice out of GH already. Screw Aeroshit, I'm with Harmonix now.
And the DLC for Rock Band is consistent and also good!
The trick is to pick up your keyboard and wrap your fret hand around the back of it, just like a GH controller.
bleh. way too hard.
Jajajaja, i made it through easy with a 56% accu.
Damn, I'm pretty sure they would have been able to make a better port than this shit, really, Activision, with all the flaws that are beign poped up is getting on my nerves
Just a tip, handle the keyboard as you would with a guitar. Thanks Frets on Fire
You guys are supposed to hit enter while holding the number keys--at least the ones that can't hit any notes
Awful.
this is the best game i've ever played
they should have used the f keys instead of the number keys. This just seems like a crappy rip of of Frets on Fire.
@NeoAkira:
*rip off of
FLIP YOUR KEYBOARD UPSIDE DOWN.
Hold it like the guitar hero controller with all the appropriate fingers on the 1-5 keys.
It's a LOT more fun and actually playable that way.
Granted it's still only a 10 minute mediocre diversion, but once you flip your keyboard upside down and hold the thing like a guitar con, it's actually quite amusing...
If you're at work though... good luck trying to convince your boss you're working if you're gonna be sitting there with your keyboard in your lap held up to your chest. haha
So, after squeezing hard on a piece of coal to make a diamond, what do you get when you squeeze too hard on said diamond? Glass?
@WrenixPhight:
It's the only way to do it, though. Otherwise you have no soul!
I thought it was cool and well worth the five minutes of my time it took to play.
The note detection seemed a bit off. Could have been due to audio desynch, though; Flash does like to do that.
Practice Mode is almost as gimped as Rock Band for the ps2!
People find this hard O.o;; Im probably the worst player of guitar hero I know. I stink. Yet I was able to get 84% on easy. With a longest streak of 49.
Considering how bad I am if you can't get higher than that on easy then maybe you're already dead O.O
@TheDoomer: So because they made an advertisement for the internet that dooms the series? Least your name is right I guess >.>
I mean seriously this is an advert, not an entry in the series. Not only that but you mention Guitar hero ds which so far previews have been very positive about. It seems clear they are actually trying with guitar hero ds. In fact you haven't played GH:aerosmith yet either!
So basically you have decided the series is completly ruined because 3 ''wasn't all that good'' and because they made an advert. Which as far as adverts go is actually really great.
Heh, I'll admit it was a stupid, amusing diversion once I figured out I should flip my keyboard upside down in my lap (wireless keyboard = win for this).

*flips laptop*
Whoa. Got one! Whoops. Crap. Damn. Shit. Gah! Why for the love of god?
*fails*
I miss my old full PC.
This game doesn't work without 3D scrolling (not that it's unplayable). At least it's true to the game with the disgustingly wide timing window. I was hitting notes before notes that were already at the bottom.
Thanks, but no thanks. At the very least, this will encourage me to play more Audiosurf.
*Patiently waits for new computer from NewEgg to come in*
Oh, god, it's horrible.
WOO HOO! I'm Number 8 on Heavy Metal Lady
This reminds me of those old Tiger Hand Helds for some reason...
The timing window was small but it was really easy to beat all 3 of those songs.
For some reason, you need to strum a bit earlier than you'd expect for all these notes. Also, the green fret is buggy. Sometimes perfectly placed strums are counted as wrong...
That's about the most counter intuitive control scheme I've seen in an online game. considering you either use the offset keypad to the right, or the keys atop.
Fail.
This is pointless!
the sound.. it hurts my ears...
Guitar Hero Flash or whatever it's called is far superior to this. It has all the songs from all the Guitar Hero games in it.
If the space bar was strum and the quality was decent I'd find this better than guitar hero. I can't use the uncomfortable guitar controllers to save my life. My gaming fingers are my thumb, index and middle finger dammnit. Ring and little finger are useless.
I love it. It's pretty awesome, but you've got to get used to playing backwards, in a way.
Sweet. Sixth place on easy. Not bad for a non-player...yet. However, it was somewhat broken. Fix it, Activision, and then we'll talk.
That was awful.
I don't care what anyone else thinks. I don't have Guitar Hero, but loved it when I played it. This is great.
So why couldn't they rig this to run off of the wireless guitar controllers?
Anyone ever notice that when you plug the USB device into a PC, it detects the controller, and the output from the device is fairly simple? (this is with the PS3 version for me at least)
I always expected a flash-versions of GH, but not one that requires strumming as well.
I created a brain-game that's similar to GH. It forces the player to memorize the whole song. Have a look. [www.brain-beats.com]
I love feedback. thanks. =]

'nuf said.
Wow, I'm really, really, really bad at this!
Sixth place on Easy. I could've done better, though. Definitely not as fun as the real thing so I doubt I'll play it again, but it was still a good time killer.
They also have an LCD version for sale at Target.
That was kind of entertaining. Kind of . . .
Took a bit to understand the timing of this. Still interesting little thing, not that great, but isn't meant to be an actualy game after all.
I love Guitar Hero 1 and 2, but at this point I kinda wish Guitar Hero would just go away. The series has lost all its charm.
I wonder if plugging in a guitar and using Joy2Key would make this easier. Although at that point it would make more sense to play the real game.
@foxhound417: I think Guitar Hero could stick around as a "high-score" game ala Pac Man CE. I don't know though it's very evident that Harmonix didn't make GH III, and I really wonder what kind of crack they do all day at Activison that makes people think "Aerosmith" edition is going to get anyone excited.
