GTA IV DLC Arriving This Summer?

gtadlc.jpgRockstar's "Lazlow" (one of the game's DJs) made another appearance on the Opie and Anthony show this morning. This time he claimed that the Xbox 360's DLC is being worked on at the moment and could see the light of day as early as this summer. Not much was said about PS3 DLC other than he hoped to see it happen in the future. Our guess is that Microsoft will release the DLC whenever it works best with their general plan of attack—be that as soon as Rockstar finishes the content or months later—since paying $50 million and ruling a platform probably affords you such luxuries.

  • Lazlo was a radio personality, and current R* employee, more than just a tester.

  • He also went on Big O and Dukes on wjfk in DC this afternoon and addressed the error with the game freezing.

He essentially put in on PS3 owners having too much 'junk' on their hard drives. I infer from that that the game is getting around the PS3 RAM issue by doing some caching to the hard drive.

He didn't address the same problem on the 360.

He also minimized the problem, putting it on the order of 0.001% of users.

  • It was most likely Lazlow Jones. I miss his old K-rock talk show =(

  • luxuries... *sigh*...

  • I cant wait for R* DLC,i want to see where they can take the game.

  • I'd much rather play GTAIV than take a practice GRE test.

  • Please make my current game work correctly before you try and sell me more of it.

Man, Lazlo is way too awesome to be on Opie & Anthony... He should just get back into the radio business and overtake the current personalities. Then, maybe, I'd actually turn the radio on.

  • @Chux:

    what he said.

He works predominantly with in-game radio content.

  • Lazlo should go work for the Howard Stern channels on Sirius. Opie and Anthony are crap

  • Oh go screw.

  • I've been having so much fun just messing around in free roam I may never even finish the story.

  • That 50 mill is going to buy a lot of marketing before the game hits, that's for sure.

  • Still can't but smile about DLC. GTA seems to be the first game on which people are willing to spend more even before sampling what they get for the regular price. More or less an invasion of Normandy for micro-transactions.

  • @DesmondHume: That was my problem with the other games, which is why I've never finished any of them.

  • For the record, Howard Stern is old and boring.

As for the information on the DLC, its going to be interesting to see what kind of content is provided. I've been enjoying the game myself, and can't forsee it becoming a bore as quickly as say, San Andreas. I just got so awfully bored with it, and I wasn't even that far in. Granted, it wasn't even my game (roommates) but it became so tedious to EAT while you were in a mission. LAME!!!

Hopefully the DLC will link back to the previous titles, reinventing the games with a modern engine and maybe even prompting people to pick up those other titles to enjoy THEIR storylines.

Who knows, so far GTA IV has been nothing short of a success, except for the PS3 60GB issues. As much as I'm not a fan of the PS3, I would hate to have that happen to me. God knows we have all been waiting to play this game, and to have it NOT WORK!?!?

DLC = goodness though. Hope you PS3ers get yours in the same amount of time, but we know how this PSN has been... heres to hoping for you guys!

  • This is great news! I though summer was gonna be occupied by Brawl only, but more GTA ftw!

  • @TitillatedOcelot: Are you hiding under a rock?

Dammit Mark! That pic scared the crap out of me! I am at work, man come on! I can't have "File Download" box jumpin out at me like that! geesh! ;)

  • At the least, 50 million large ones had better open the Catskills as a region. ;-)

  • The Catskills? Surely you jest my friend. It would be a lot more interesting to open up some grimier regions of the always loathsome Jersey City and Newark areas.

  • @vig0r: Surely you haven't seen everything it has to offer already?

This is the thing I don't get with DLC, it almost makes you feel like you have an inferior product in your hands. If they announced it 6 months in you'd be like, wow!, that'll extend my game a bit.

Announcing it before the game is even launched is like putting a Coming Soon! section on a restaurant menu.

  • Alright, we will see if the DLC was a tipping scale and not another quickie.

By the way, as much as I enjoyed the game last night,

a big FUCK you to Rockstar for the "Bull in a China shop" mission but all the characters are in Korean.

4 Years of Dev and you can't get that shit right?

  • @Fyren: China shop =/= chinese shop ....

  • It's hard for me to believe that the DLC will never come to the PS3.

  • This is pretty funny. The GTA ads running on this page for the 360 are promoting the DLC coming out in the fall.

  • Do we really need another city, how about some open country areas in the DLC with towns, villages and farms?

then I can relive those dukes of hazzard days.

  • What I find strange is that, if the game is truly as great as advertised, then why would ANYONE that truly is having a blast with it say that this DLC will be neglible?

Also, not to fan flames but to be logical, since so much money has changed hands ON THE RECORD for these 2 exclusive DLC eps, isn't there a better chance of MGS4 coming to 360 (Sony didn't pay for exclusivity, right?) than this DLC going to PS3? Think about it ...

  • @jigglypoofs: I loved that about SA, tearing ass out of the city and heading to the country hideout.

In any event, as long as the DLC approaches "Knights of the Nine" or "Shivering Isles" quality levels, I'm sold.

  • @jigglypoofs: - "Do we really need another city?"

Sure, why not? And as far as the open country areas goes, the majority of people seemed to hate it in GTA: San Andreas. I liked it, but most seemed to think that all that space was unnecessary.

  • @jigglypoofs: san andreas had that... but um, driving out in the country gets boring after a while....
but being chased by the sheriff in a bronco was really fun, hauling ass over hills off road and what not.... just had to get busted to find my way back to town once I got way out there.

@Fyren: Yea, China in this case would refer to the expensive dishes that people own but never eat off of. ie the fine china.

  • It makes sense.

  • @TheHun: Ah in that case, I spoke too early.

However, didn't Vlad say he was Chinese?

If not, then I was extremely shortsighted.

  • @DARTH_TIGRIS:

no MGS4 is never going to be on 360, for starters it would have to be on like 5 discs.

  • It's important to not that the $50M wasn't a payment, it was a guaranteed advance. So if you're really calculating the cost to MS of the exclusive content, it's actually 1 year of interest on $50M + the assumed risk of GTA not generating > $50M in revenue for MS.

  • O&A Party Rock!!! Lazlow is a regular guest on the Opie & Anthony show, and those guys along with many of the comedians that regularly appear on their show, all did some of the voice over work that you hear throughout the game (Anthony is featured in the "Pisswiser" beer commercial among other hysterical in game ads). If you look at the credits in the GTA IV game manual, R* thanks the Opie & Anthony Show right off the top. These guys were also featured in Vice City Stories for PSP. Gotta love those fancy boys!

  • The e-mail sent today from Microsoft stated "Autumn" for the DLC.

"Download exclusive episodes on Xbox LIVE Marketplace starting Autumn 2008!**

** Episode downloads sold separately. "

  • I'm hoping the downloadable content comes to PS3 eventually.

  • @googleguru: Having footed the bill for full development costs, unless they were snoozing whey they did it it's /highly/ likely there's a line in the contract that reads "When it can appear on other consoles: Nev4hr!!one1"

  • I think MS made a HUGE mistake by not promoting this to the average consumer. Sure the hardcore's know about it but not John Q. Public.

During the X-Play interview with N'Gai and Brian, it was mentioned that some people that own PS2's have been waiting to buy a PS3 because of GTAIV. This was Microsoft's chance to capitalize on those people that have been waiting for GTAIV's release to make the jump to next-gen. By promoting content that "may" not appear on the PS3 they missed a prime marketing opportunity to turn those current-gen buyers into 360 buyers.

The fact that Rockstar hasn't even shown so much as a screenshot or even a press release about what the DLC will contain is a huge miss for both companies.

  • They announced at GDC that it would be coming in August:
