WARNING: DO NOT STEP BEYOND THE WAIST HIGH FENCE WHILE MARIO KART IS IN MOTION.
Luke can have his Mario Kart Wii and his fancy wireless motion controls from the future. I'll enjoy the classic, SNES version and a humble motion simulator by Force Dynamics. Constructed from various flavors of steel, this simulator features 500lbs of peak thrust, five channels of surround sound and one wicked disclaimer:
The [unit] can move suddenly, and severely injure someone who is within the working envelope. A waist high fence located at least 4 feet away from the machine is strongly suggested.OK, technically the disclaimer is for a more premium unit. But I had a need to post that bit about the "waist high fence." For your safety.

wow that's pretty awesome
I loved the "We're releasing this video anyway" disclaimer at the beginning.
Regardless that looks like a seriously fun time.
Awesome machine
Crappy driver
I would marry that and make it have my nasty children.
Oh that's just awesome. My brother would spend all day in it however, and I'd never get a chance!
OOOOOkay.... I love the game, but... I can't help but think this is wasted effort.
They go through all that trouble to build that setup... then you control the thing via what appears to be a DualShock. This would be perfect if they had added a wheel and some pedals.
Wow.
@alby13: I think that was the point of the disclaimer :)
@RSTStop780:
Thats what I thought too at first, and then I realized I think he's trying to drive crappy and hit as much stuff as possible, like the moles, to show how the kart reacts to different surfaces and situations.
Or maybe I'm just being too optimistic.
At least that Mario Kart doesn't have the driver doing flips. That simulator would be AWFUL.
This guy sucks at mario kart
I'll be sold once it spins wildly after a banana peel.
*pitches Wii Wheel out the window*
I want one of those!
Motion simulator > motion controls
@NoahIdea: What the heck will it do when the person is supposed to get smacked by lightning? 0_o
@NitrousO: Short out.
But Imagine how hard it would be sitting in that shake-mobile while using the Wii Wheel. Talk about a challenge!
@NitrousO: 50,000 volts pump right through you!
@dantemustdie: For his sake, I hope you're right...
@megaStryke:
Agreed
Saw this @ work in the morning, I was completly taken bu the general concept. Imagine playing Ace Combat, Wipeout or F-Zero GX! Oh, the possibilities...
They sell these at ikea right?
Imagine if you could play GC-FZERO with that things :D...
I think I need to go clean up now.
The jumps, the water, the rocks, the baddies! The way it reacts to the environments is amazing. Although, megaStryke is right, they go through all of that trouble to have it semi-simulated? Where the hell are the steering wheel and the pedals man!
That system was made for WIP3OUT!!! What is this Mario Kart business?!?!
That is awesome, would love to try it.
Dude! I would pay to try that!
Wow, that's both cool and that guy REALLY sucks at Super Mario Kart. Or was he just crashing into walls "to show the force feedback?" :)
@TOCATL: You speak the truth, sir!
Looks unbelievably fun. 2 weeks ago I tried MK on a projector and thought THAT was badass, how wrong I was...
Too bad noobcake never played it before ><
The original mario kart is the only good one.
everyone is gushing over this thing? did no one else notice the half second delay between when something happened on screen to when the kart actually reacted to it?
@KingDavid73: YES!
And this guy sucks, he never even does the starting boost!
thats pretty neat!- but "Were not going to tell you how we did it" What assholes...
our world would be a much cooler, funner, and nonetheless smarter place- if we were all taught these nifty tricks. Greedy bastards....
If the arcade units for Mario Kart and F-Zero had these kinds of simulators they would have probably done a lot better.
that guy sucks =D
He never showed off any sliding or rainbow road. I would've liked to see him get hit with a shell as well.
I can see the headlines now. timmys hand got caught between the bar and metal pole. Child knocked unconscious by wii kart simulator.
he sucked.
D:
plus it'll go great with MKWii
well except for the stunts, that'll be funny to see what would happen.
:)
Amazing! How much are one of these bad boys?
This video would be way more awesome if they put a semi competent driver at the controls.... this guy had the reactions of an 80 year old man
How can they let someone so bad be in their video for showing off that awesome simulator? SLIDE, dammit, SLIDE!
That Sim is pretty tight, but I miss Mario Kart SNES more... :`(
The music brought back so many great memeories.
We're is the VC EDITION?!?!?! That's the whole reason why I bought a damn Wii for.
Fuckn' sweet, thats all I have to say.
I was screaming "USE THE FEATHER!" at my monitor and the darn thing cut to another course.
Shoot it all.
It was pretty neat when he hit the speed jump over the track earlier.
they should make this mario kart wii style!
it's weird how this guy seems to never have fun playing any of the games in any of the force dynamics videos. he makes it look like unfun. not even the slightest smile or happy look. how do you sell product like that?
@TOCATL:
you have just made me realize the one game i would buy this for.
crap.
Is he playing with a PS2 controller???
I loved the "Ready" lift in the beginning.
Pretty sweet, I would imagine that he isn't driving "bad" per se, but to show the minuscule depression and elevation of the machine if it were to hit non-pavement; much like the rumble.
This is the controller for the next Nintendo console. Confirmed. :P
I'm sure he's probably playing on a PC with a SNES emulator. That would also explain how he got the motion simulator to interface with the game. As for the controller: SIXAXIS controllers work really well for PC, so that's probably what it is.
And I WANT ONE FOR GT5!! Sony, make it happen. And make it cost like only $100.
looks like that machine can really screw up your game... he went off the track several times because that thing was bumping him around so much.
LOL pretty interesting i guess. controls seems shitty tho since he didn't get past 6th place in any race
Burnout anyone?
Is he just bad or is it the controller? Either way that would be so awesome to have.
I'm guessing this is just a recorded video with the force feedback pre-scripted and he's just pretending to play. The only other options would be linking the feedback to the controller input, which obviously wasn't done, image recognition, or spending some serious quality time with an emulator and a debugger. The latter two options involve such massive amounts of effort that it's unlikely someone would go through with it just for a single demonstration on Youtube (granting that this is good press for his company).
@xyierz:
Force Dynamics has been in business for a long time, and probably has Mario Kart worked out by now. Their simulators are compatible with all manner of racing games and flight sims, so this was probably a fully functioning hookup.
Also considering the fully spec'd unit costs upwards of 27k, I think this was the real deal.
I wanted to build one of these for Steel Battalion.
SWEETNESS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
