Well good for them. The Phantom lapboard, descendant of the vapour-ware Phantom "games console", has actually gone on sale. It's being reviewed by tech journos. It's even being shipped to the public. Maximum PC got their hands on a unit, and their verdict is surprising. Surprising in that they think the keyboard "rocks". But what about the mouse? Not so hot. It "leaves much to be desired". Oh well. None of us were ever going to spend $130 on one anyways, so it's all academic.

A snowflake was just spotted in hell, too. Weird.
I could have sworn I just saw a pig fly by my window...
Could this mean... the end is nigh?
:(
It looks like a cellphone. On drugs
Does not compute.
The board was the solution to using a keyboard on your Phantom while sitting on the sofa.
Phantom does not exist.
Phantom = vaporware.
Why is this happening at all.
Now if they just release Duke Nukem forever, the underworld will have surely frozen over.
Thats amazing news though! hummmmm,ive wanted to get one since they announced it, it would be a great way to get my new pc in to the sitting room attached to my big screen, no more muddy textures!
The kinds of people that invested money into the Phantom project are the exact same kind of people that listen to Fox News.
Still, I suppose it's somewhat of a good idea, but I'm not sure how many people FPS on the go.
I don't get it.
Hey, maybe all those investors will make a little bit of their money back now. It's a nice design, I could see myself using one.
Is it bundled with Duke Nukem Forever?
HURRY EVERYONE! GRAB WHAT YOU CAN AND MEET ME IN THE Y2K SHELTER!
PS3's support Keyboard/Mouse, right? You can get serious pwnage on online matches with this thing vs. other people's standard controller.

What do you mean, I can only post witty remarks?
hell has frozen over so hard, vapourware has solidified. omg.
[Insert witty comment about this being a sign of the apocalypse here]
$130 for a keyboard glued to a TV tray?
I am so in the wrong business.
@willyolio: "Team Fortress 2" did finally solidify... It just wasn't the version I was hoping for.
No one panic, "Duke Nukem Forever" is still "coming soon"
@everyone - Good lord, people. Have none of you heard of HTPCs?? Like, ...ever?
@wonder6oy: You must be new. The Phantom Lapboard is the Duke Nukem Forever of PC hardware.
$900 cheaprer than an Optimus? I'm in
I remember seeing this back when the E3 was really the E3.
Firs the announcement of Star Craft 2, then talk of Duke Nukem Forever actually being worked on..then this...I don't...I just don't know what to say.
Doesn't have a normal numerical keypad on the right.
What a fail.
Oh, and, (insert other witty comment to go along with AUAnonymous here.)
Wow. How much Alienware pay for that thing?
Oh God I can see forever.
This is actually the first picture I have ever seen of it actually on someone's lap and being used.
To me, it looks ungainly. Too likely to topple over. Looks like I would have to be sitting in an uncomfortable, posture-perfect position to use it.
No thanks. I'll wait for those peripheral pants.
If it holds the keyboard stiff enough, that looks like a really smart design! I wouldn't have even thought about the pivot but it would be good to have - and then it just folds up into a thick keyboard!
Nice... that would sure beat deathmatching with an optical mouse on your knee!
I hope it's not all tied up in patents, I think that could be a good starting point for more like this. Then again, I'm kinda a freak who uses his game consoles at a PC desk, but I have a couch behind me and I've tried and given up on just plain wireless kb/mouse years ago.
@fuchikoma: whats wrong wit wireless?
@SofaKingHI:
Nothing. It's just a bit awkward sitting on a couch with a mouse on the couch beside your leg or on the part of your lap the keyboard isn't on. Wireless is fine.
Maybe I just don't appreciate the rigorous world of cheap plastic shit, but this seems like something that would take five minutes to design, a month to manufacture, and then spend the rest of it's life running the infomercial circuit sometime in the late Dot Com boom. And $130? Really? I mean, it's not like the Phantom is ever gonna come out, guys. You can drop the programmers from the payroll.
At least the infomercial version would only be five easy payments of $19.95.
I don't understand why this is making news at all. If this was ironic publicity, I'd laugh and move on. But some people actually seem to give a flying crap about this glorified keyboard tray, and that just astounds me.
