A demo for Siren: New Translation—somewhat of a retelling, not so much a remake of the PlayStation 2 Siren—recently hit the Japanese PlayStation Store, but this is my first real chance to get a look at media from the game. It's reportedly packed with English language dialogue and text, with some Japanese thrown in for good measure, so we hope the North American localization isn't far behind its overseas Summer release. Slaying possessed Japanese villagers with various farming implements certainly seems more appealing than whatever is going on in this ugly mess.

Looks fantastic.
::jaw won't come back up::
crap.
I tried it earlier today. The graphics reminded me of the Doom 3 engine a lot. To be honest, I didn't understand the controls (my Japanese isn't that great) and I haven't played it before - but I think I would like it if I knew how to beat the first opponent in the demo -_-
Brown game is brown. Looks really good though. If I ever get a PS3, I'll be picking this up with it.
Dude,just looking at the screens make me somewhat scared.
Incredible!!, such well placed details and textures on the zombie.
I just wish these kinds of games would modify the gameplay so that we may look at these mobs a bit longer as intended by artists and renderes.
I am tired of seeing extremely well rendered mobs that has to be blown to bits so quick that you end up convincing yourself that the screenshot didn't do the game justice.
Creepy!
I wasn't a fan of the old games but these screens make me want to check this game out nonetheless.
The game does seem to have an MGS4 style love affair going on with the colour brown though, but I can let that slide comapred to SH:H >.>
that lady in the first pic looks like my girlfriend when she wakes up from bed.
wtf ... this looks better than Silent Hill V ... err umm "Homecoming".
looks awesome
I'm a die hard Silent Hill fan (except for 4), but this looks great too.
I'm calling it, SH:H will be scarier than this.
I just tried the demo and I couldn't complete it... I got too scared. The graphics are amazing, they rival Uncharted at times...
Looks pretty creepy. Dunno why I haven't made a Japanese account. Should make use of those demos.
I didn't like the series much, but they've done a good overhaul of the gameplay and controls with this one.
@Fyren:
The game now has a first person mode that lets you zoom in from a distance. You can also walk in first person as well, and you can even use a gun as a melee weapon if you run out of ammo.
Looks pretty much like the screens running at 720p. The sound is excellent too. As short as the demo was, it left a good impression.. much better than the first PS2 game.
I love PS3 exclusives,every game that isn't nubbed by being multiplatform just looks ridiculous.Uncharted,GT5,Ratchet, the list is just gonna keep growing:)
I'm not sure how I feel about this game. The demo wasn't great but I still thought it had potential.
@buttonmasher: I highly doubt that.
i have a feeling this'll be better then Silent Hill V (being a HUGE SH fan, i don't have high hopes for the new one).
Having beat the demo about 6 times now, i've gotta admit i LOVE this game. From the instant kills, to the creepy shadows when running around the forest. I'm just curious why they americanized the game so much (the original was VERY japanese, now this one almost seems like a teen horror flick).
Either way, i'm pumped for a US release of this game.
I'm gettin the demo now. I want to see if this game supports 1080p. This looks like a game that will not look greyed out like almost all PS3 games that require true HL. If you compare Condemed2 on both systems you will notice that the 360 version has real lighting and shadows since the 360 has built in hardware on chip the handle that as for the PS3 doesn't have a dedicated harware lighting chip so it is programmed to give the effect of lighting and shadow as to why PS3 games always seem a lil bit on the grey side. But the pics for this game look fab.! LoL
I'll post about it in my section after I go through once or twice.
I didn't care much for the first Siren, but I'll definitely get this!!!
@SlowDeath420: aint that the truth that is why ever multi platform game I get for my 360 and just stick with the exclusives for my PS3.
Wow i still have the original PS2 game on my shelf barely played. I just couldent get over the brittish accents and bad acting from the first one.
@JorgieX: Yeah i do the samething,bothers me though as i would rather have em on my PS3 with dedicated servers(the MOST important part of mp gaming)but they always end up with peer to peer to match the 360 and on top of that end up not running aswell but thats a whole other can of worms.
eugh... too much creepypasta for me.
stayin the hell away from this one. I kinda like sleeping at night.
The character models do look absolutely stunning.
@SlowDeath420: I think I'm the only one who didn't notice that.
It looks great, but the facial expressions on the characters aren't there. It's weird to me, to see a guy fighting for his life and look completely calm.
I'm currently downloading it but judging from the screens it looks fantastic so far...
I hope Konami learns a lesson.
Looks pretty. How does it play?
I said it in the SH thread too... I want it to play well. Then I'll be interested. Those of you who have a hook up to the Japanese store... How's it play? Besides "scary" please!
The demo felt all kinds of wonky. Tank controls in 2008? Really?
Is it just me, or is the guy in plaid Guy Pierce?
Wait, so, this isn't a troll question or anything but; is this racist?
@Grimmjow Jeagerjaques: Yeah it was pretty slick:)
This game looks impressive. I need to see it in motion.
Just so you know, these "zombies" are unslayable. You can put them out of comission for a few minutes (some only for a few seconds), but they get back up.
Part of the creepiness of the game.
Video games haven't scared me in years, because I'm bad-ass motherfucker. BAMF for short.
These Siren screens won't change that.
@2NinjasTapedTogether: The controls are pretty meh at first but once you get a the hang of it they work out well. I enjoyed it. Definitely made me want to play more of this game.
I saw the game briefly yesterday while a coworker was playing it. These screens look 10,000 times better than when I saw it live. The environments looked very PS2 level at the time I saw it.
Thank god for this!! :)
- throws away a inexistent copy of SH : Homecoming -
Wow
Makes silent hill 5 look like child's play.
@Ping5000: The screens may not scare you, but have you played the demo?
@Jeff Paine: but none of us have played either one yet.
Wow this game is very scary and if you have the dualshock3 like me then you get the feel of a heart beat everytime you start getting near an enemy and you sometimes need to look around since it's so dark sometimes you cant see anything in front of you but the controller start pulsing with the sound of a heart beat and freaks me out. All in all visually it's great sound messes with your head and the fact that you can sneak around enemies and even turn your flashlight off as to not be seen all workd really good. I hope we get this one.
If this is a remake of the original, it's strange that they changed all the protagonists to... non-japanese people.
I can't get past the elevator that doesn't come :/
damn my lack of japanese knowledge.
@phinehas:
Not in this "re-telling". You can kill them, but you need to be very quick.. hesitate and you'll die.
what's up with the gratuitous use of helvetica. it's like the least scary font ever.
@mescalineeyes: maybe its because of the anniversary :P
@JorgieX:
You actually believe what you said about RSX lacking realtime lighting and shadow mapping support? I'm sure that having said that, telling you otherwise wouldn't do any good (considering you called it lighting hardware). The 360 video out (whether it's HDMI or component) is brighter than the PS3's.
Anyway, it's 720p only for this game and it seems like a lower budget effort like the PS2 games. Odd that there isn't LPCM support.
@mescalineeyes: Yeah; they should have used Comic Sans MS. Scares me every time.
@SG79:
.. brighter default video out makes a dimmer one look a bit "greyish". Though games like DMC4, Uncharted and MGS4 certainly look bright (too bright/the first two anyway).
