And now we're into the final grouping of the draft, picks 21 to 32. Max Payne, Solid Snake and Quake Guy boosted the firepower of the draft considerably. How will the rest of the picks shape up?
21) ManjiKengo selects GUTS from Berserk Millenium Falcon Arc "Guts wields a giant slab of iron he calls a sword and goes against all insurmountable odds, including his own limitations to continue his cause of revenge and justice in his own way against his former friend, leader and current God-hand, Griffith. He loses himself to his rage during his battles against demons and human foes alike. But he shows the best and worst parts of what makes us all what we are, Human.
22. Owen Good, Kotaku.com selects SPY HUNTER "First, it's a bad-ass Porsche 911. With machine guns standard. And smokescreen, oil slick and missiles as options with approved credit. Oil slick especially, since you can control how much it spits out, and a little dab will do the Switchblades every time. And if that's not good enough, Spy Hunter turn into a boat which I guarantee blew your mind the first time you did it too. The only question is whether Spy Hunter or Weapons Van is the true MVP here."
23. enewtabie selects: NATHAN DRAKE from Uncharted: Drake's Fortune "He's the best character to come out in years.I mean, really where can you find a guy wearing a wrinkled t-shirt,who is a good shot and can find more treasure than Indiana Jones. I wish I had his hair, but not his luck for getting shot at. Pretty much the best character from the best game on Playstation 3."
24. NeoAkira selects VECTORMAN "Vectorman can use his body to transform into a number of tools, including a drill, a bomb, an aquatic form and much more. With those kinds of abilities he can just about maneuver around any obstacle you put in front if him. With more plasticity than Silly Putty and the power of a tank, Vectorman gets my pick for the Greatest Video Game Character of All Time."
25. Gambia selects MANNY CALAVERA from Grim Fandango "Critically acclaimed travel agent, nightclub owner, ship captain, revolutionary. Excellent puzzle solver and one half of the greatest gaming love story ever told.The fact that this suave and sophisticated character is already dead also makes him that much better. He's invincible, provided he doesn't get too close to your green house. And, what could make him that much more badass? He's death, the coolest of all personifications, that and an obsession with jazz music, gambling and racketeering."
26. Adam S. (Owen's co-worker) selects JUMPMAN (Commodore 64) "My introduction to video games, plus the guy is amazing versatile. He can shoot, has 10 speed settings (the highest being insanely fast) and comes up with neat tricks in a pinch (like the Hot Foot level). Also, unlike Mario, Jumpman could pull himself up, jump directly on and from ladders, and didn't die if he fell 0.5 inches."
27. Mr.SithNinja selects RYU HYABUSA from Ninja Gaiden "Ryu Hayabusa has outlived most of the consoles that he has appeared in games for, going back to his arcade debut in 1988. Ryu's moves are swift and impressive while difficult to master. His arsenal of weapons are both impressive and effective. In the right hands, he is the deadliest character ever, finishing his opponents with the style and grace that only a true ninja could posses. Ryu Hayabusa is such as bad ass that other bad asses stalk him and want to be him. (Yeah, I am looking at you again Master Chief!)"
28. Maldron selects HIGH OVERLORD SAURFANG from World of Warcraft "High Overlord Saurfang is generally considered to be one of the most fearsome characters on either the Horde or Alliance. Considering he auto-counterattacks critical hits for 12,000 damage in a game where it's difficult to get over 10,000 HP, he's somebody I'd want on my team. High Overlord Saurfang is a serious bad ass, a well known powerhouse, and therefore a logical choice for a draft."
29. aethyr selects ARTHAS from Warcraft III "Former paladin of the Light turned Death Knight, servant of Ner'zhul, Lich King. At the conclusion of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, ascended to a higher existence when he merged with Ner'zhul to become the lord of Northrend and possibly the most powerful being in Azeroth."
30. Ra on the A-Team selects MILES EDGEWORTH from Phoenix Wright: Ace Attorney "Edgeworth has proven himself to be one who believes in justice. While his co- workers and mentors may choose to not see the truth in favor of getting the verdict they want, Edgeworth has gone against the grain and even worked with the defense to see those responsible put away. He fears no one in the court room and has saved more than one person's life."
31. Atheist Jew selects SHODAN in System Shock 2 "Her ineffable malice towards organic life, her total insanity, and her disturbingly cold plans for the universe in general make her one of most malevolent and purely evil villains in gaming history. SHODAN believes herself to be a machine goddess, destined to reformat reality in her image. Her madness is a threat to every organic race in the entire universe, and she will kick your ass."
32) Fletch Good (illustrator of the epic Pac-Man dookie post) selects ASSHOLE DOG from Duck Hunt. "You know, seeing that Super Mario, Pac-Man, Lara Croft, Master Chief, Samus Aran, Link, Pitfall Harry, Kyle Katarn, Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson and Pengo are all available here doesn't change my mind at all. Because when you add it all up, all the shots fired at this dog — from the Zapper in the home version, from the pistol in the arcade — millions of millions of rounds, some of them aimed between this son of a bitch's eyes with the barrel 1 mm from the screen, and he never got so much as a scratch — this is the most fired-upon indestructible motherfucker ever. More bulletproof than 50 Cent. Would laugh at Dick Cheney." (picture)
Next: Grade the Draft!

So many odd picks... was there a salary cap or something?
This draft, gets a...
3...
out of 10
27th for Ryu? Steal of the DRAFT! I mean he's a ninja!
Asshole dog...nice pick...best one of the draft.
wow what a diverse bunch of picks. Very interesting. Good article.
Hard to get over 10,000 HP in WoW?
Weird, I'm almost at 20k. Must be a bug.
So do we do rounds 2-6 tomorrow?
Asshole dog made me LOL
Wha..wha...what are you dddoooooing... inseeectt....
The meat (the meat) is nooooot neeeeeeded..... (not needed)...
I am the ooonlyyyyy onneeee (only one, only one) thaaaat isss needed...
*bzzztttt*
That damn dog!
*Shakes fist at the heavens.*
Funny pick, Fletch. XD
Also, kudos to Atheist Jew for picking SHODAN. System Shock 2 scared the piss out of me, and she was the biggest reason why.
Damn.. Owen was right.
Fletch, I bow to thy awesomeness.
@Deltakiral: These arent rankings... they are just the order in which we picked them.
I'm absolutely astonished that nobody's picked Barry Snaders from Tecmo Bowl yet!
Grade: F-
Ah, Guts....you bring me much entertainment in the form of Vidya, Aneemay and Man Gah.
Kudos to picking Jumpman. Is that emulated somewhere? That was one of my first non-Atari 2600 video game obsessions. I spent a lot of hours with Jumpman.
Master Chief would be the steal of the second round, I gotta say. Must have personal issues that are scaring teams off....
The dog. You were right Owen. That IS epic. :)
@KidU: thanks for your USELESS INPUT.
@KidU: Yes, yes. Go back to GameFAQs, kid. They'll need you so that the L-block doesn't win the next character battle.
@lionkitten:
He's prone to fall into situations that require driving a jeep out of danger at the end of game..He's strange like that.
A fine last pick if I do say so myself. Like in the last round of the real NFL draft, does the Asshole Dog get a vacation package and such?
@Lezard:
That reminds me, the "I" shaped block from Tetris would also make a great pick.
@ManjiKengo: @Lezard:
From the bottom of the post:
"Next: Grade the Draft!"
Am I not entitled to my opinion? Also, you really should watch who you are calling a "kid", guy.
@KingBroly: @KidU:
I know you guys must be disappointed that such "great" characters like Master Chief and Mario didn't make, but unfortunately they weren't chosen. Perhaps if you guys had something worthwhile to say you would have gotten chosen for the draft, but since you obviously don't I recommend you just STFU and enjoy the draft.
@KidU: He's not your guy, friend.
(Sorry, but you were wide open for that one. :D)
Good call on Edgeworth.
That FUCKING dog
*seething with malice*
@ShaggE: Intentionally so.
Man, Owen, you just make Kotaku a lot more fun.
@StupidityTries:
The "I" shape was actually chosen. It was in the 11-20 draft pick.
[kotaku.com]
Oh and Guts should have been #1 draft pick
Seriously, have you seen that sword??????
*is a Beserk fanboy*
@KidU: Well, let's see here. Your username is "KidU," so you're kind of asking for it. Also, you've done nothing but tear apart these choices because they don't subscribe to your thought that every pick must be a popular badass or it sucks.
You are entitled to your opinion, but my opinion of yours is that it is indescribably unimaginative, unoriginal, and flat-out lame. Not to mention the rude manner in which you presented your views.
@ShaggE: He's notchyo' friend, buddy.
@ShaggE: What he said.
ASSHOLE DOG hes invincible to guns.
Out of all the picks made, I know about one-third of the characters and I like to consider myself pretty knowledgeable about video games. This seemed more like an exercise in picking obscure characters in hopes of gaining "street cred".
@NeoAkira:
Ah, totally missed it!
Oh, and thanks for not being snarky about it.
@lionkitten:
My pick "justification" was edited. ( Seeing the format I understand why ) I went an a rant about Master Chief stalking Ruy by dressing like a woman to be with him in DOA and how in Halo 3 he spends a lot of time collecting skulls in order to dress like Ryu. Then it took a disturbing turn from there..... Let's get say if it were put into a regular post it would en cite a fan boy riot and a possible banhammer dropped on me. ;)
Thanks Owen, it was fun!
@Dauragon C. Mikado: Thank you thank you. I was afraid someone would have recognized him solely from the anime.
The games themselves are SO good. Despite Guts getting the shit kicked out of him constantly he always seems to come out within an inch of his life.
The story though is unfinished right now and I seriously hope Sammy considers bringing the PS2 game to the united states.
It's a huge injustice not to allow gamers in America experience the story and the sheer "GRIM AND DARK" of Berserk.
@cellshadedninja:
Dude those are the value picks that you make in later roudns
@Bernard McGraw: He's notchyo' buddy, guy!!
Too bad I wasn't in on this draft. I would have made the ultimate videogame Harem.
@ManjiKengo: You are a god among men for picking Guts. Kudos for managing to get one of the best manga protagonists of all time on the list by citing the game Berserk Millennium Falcon Arc ~Seimasenki no Sho~, which he was featured in. That was one of the best import games I've played in awhile.
I hate rating things, so I'll just give this list the clichéd "thumbs up".
@Lezard: You are free to think my opinion is unimaginative; I am free to think that a draft should operate like a real draft wherein as I stated earlier, teams pick the top players. LeBron James would not drop out of the first round in an NBA draft just because picking him would be unimaginative or unoriginal. Also, please show me a single post of mine that was rude, I'd like to see it.
@SilentPredator:
Honestly, Owen said
"
1) The character does not have to be a title character. You may select an NPC if he's particularly bad-ass.
2) Real-world people who show up in video games are draftable. This includes sports figures.
3) Robots, vehicles, mechas, animals, nonhuman, nonliving characters, generic character classes from FPSes count too. You want to draft the Katamari wad, fine. Whatever everyone can control if they own/play the game, it counts."
I feel we were all within the limitations of our rules and guidelines.
Personally I beleive we all chose great characters. There are only 3 characters I wouldn't want on my team if I was drafting for a "HEAVEN OR HELL" team.
@StupidityTries:
No problem. Some of the picks are hard to make it; it would have been nice if they had a picture for every draft pick.
i would draft this guy any day
+ Watch video
I've gotta state again how amazed I am at some of the anger towards these picks. Accusing the people involved of looking for "street cred", getting angry that the big names weren't listed...
People truly will find *anything* to bitch about.
