What if Grand Theft Auto had been released in the 80s? Well, aside from being the best game ever (When you play Grand Theft Auto, it's like you're really in the game!), it would have featured an awesome commercial. A kid would have been sitting in his room on the brink of dying from boredom. But just in the nick of time, a leather-clad "biker type person" would pound down the door, do a few shots of tequila and discover where a friendly night of Nintendo could lead once the lights went out. Hit the link for a glimpse of history we missed only by a decade and some puberty.

Now isn't that interesting.
I straight up lost it at the tanuki suit.
Eh. That gets a C-.
A few chuckles, but overall, pretty lame.
I have to say YAY!.
One of my suggestions made it to the front page. Woohoo. lol
Anyway, I thought this was kinda comical and seeing as how every other post on this, and many other gaming sites, is related to GTA4, I thought it was appropriate :)
"My baaaaaby!"
Pretty cool, methinks.
Anyone remember that guy who was doing a GTA port to the SNES or something like that?
Full of win. Made even better by how it just took a right turn with the Tanuki suit and fighting the dragon. Classic Nintendo.
I had always considered NARC for the NES to be the closest analogue to GTA back in the day. Aaaaand it's not even close.
Meh
That is all.
You can do better than this, Colleghumor. See me after class.
The real GTA3 on NES is way better. Someone made it a few years ago.
On a side note, that looks more like "What if the GTA artists only used MS Paint?" more than "What if there was GTA for the NES?"
@Mustakrakish: This is the game you speak of:
Grand Theftendo for the NES
[gta.wikia.com]
@Doomstalk:
No, no they cant.
@Alex.C:
Hahahaha, that made my day.
Wouldnt it look more like a cross between spyhunter styled graphics and the original GTA?
@Alex.C: I was a big fan of Street Fighter: The Later Years. It had some genuine wit, and impressive production values.
There was once a guy named Brian Provinciano who was working on a game called Grandtheftendo. It looked very cool, but he gave up on it.
@Beelzebozo: very very true. ah remember the days
That was... good god. Just so... fucking awful. Now I have the awful taste of despair in my mouth.
You know, that was just like watching SuperDeluxe: unadulterated agony.
And I wouldn't be surprised to discover College Humour paid Kotaku just as SuperDeluxe pays Fark to link to its wretched videos.
MYSTERIOUS TANOOKI SUIT.
You all know you loled :')
it wasn't that bad. had a tim and eric moment or two, which was pleasant.
i really wish people would respect color and sprite limits when making videos like this. it's like, they always have the colors of an amiga title, and the sprite size of a Turbografx title.
Code Monkeys had the same problem. nothing with that much color would have such horrible sprites.
i don't care if it's not as aesthetic to your feeble brain.
i can't be the only person who feels this way.
Wow, it's like everything else on College Humor; not intelligent or humorous.
What a nice little fantasy
tequila and lights going out, nintendo and man sex
how sophmoric
I thought it was funny. Apparently, I'm an idiot.
WTF...That kid was playing Gilligan's Island...one of the worst games ever for the NES.
Needs arcade version.
@Senen:
naw he didnt give up, legal issues got to him, so retarded.
@Lethardicus:
not quite. it's actually back in development.

I thought that the lady with blood shooting out of here neck looked like Atari's E.T.
F'ing hilarious.
didn't read all the comments, but I'm guessing the NES port someone was working on was already mentioned, right?
Certainly something along the lines of the original top-down version of the game could've been done.

I almost stopped the video when I saw it was on Collage Humor... That site really is just full of rubbish.
Who the fuck makes a NES GTA and DOESN'T use the original 2D format? WTF!
GTA hit big when it went 3D, but some of us (old bastards) remember GTA when it was 2D and top down.
Damn you Kotaku!!!! I thought this was Grandtheftendo!!!
RIP that project, I am so sad it never got completed...
@wild_world_girl:
allow me to reiterate that the project is still being worked on. see my earlier comment: @mercatfat:
Wouldn't GTA on the NES look like the first GTA... only blockier?
That's a word.
"Break the curse of Liberty City."
Need I say more.
1. It would be the 2D top-down version, as that would be closer to the NES capabilities and aesthetic values of that era.
2. The game wouldn't come in a DVD case as shown-- It would be as giant cardboard box.
3. Nintendo wouldn't have allowed it because at that time, everything had to meet their approval and they had some seriously kiddified rules for NES games.
4. I would be more impressed with an Odyssey2 version.
I sooo wished Grand Theftendo was released.
