As the title says. It's a (mostly) new Metal Gear Solid 4 trailer. Lots of new footage of Metal Gears and lady-robots with tentacles, lots of footage of men being whacked over the noggin with guns, only some footage of monkeys wearing pants. I must say, while the graveyard scenes were brief, it's awful nice seeing green grass and flowers in a MGS4 trailer. That desert town was getting boring.
[Thanks everyone!]

I'M THERE
Green grass? All I see is another block of brown.
The only reason I can think of to get a PS3, which is a shame. I loved my PS2 so.
I wonder if anyone will publish a playthrough video. I'm curious to see how the story pans out, but not £350 of curious.
Still, looks like Kojima is on top form for this one and in my mind, all the PS3 adopters are about to get their reward.
finally, some new footage
that monkey is to cute!
Snake plays a mighty dangerous game around 1:04.
@Mattz: Once you get it, you should go for Uncharted, UT3 (for mods, look me up if you wanna play them online), Ratchet and Clank, and if you're into RPGs, Folklore (it's 30 bucks new, so it's really worth it) and if you can get it at a reduced rate, Heavenly Sword (not really worth 60 bucks, but worth the cost of a bluray movie, methinks) It'll help make your new purchase not be so pointless, ya know?
I wonder if this trailer is what we consider the "canon" trailer, seeing as in the first few MGS4 previews we had snake chewing on a gun in a little dingy shack, now he is in a luscious graveyard.
My bets?
Two Snakes.
The more MGS-footage I see the less excited I get. The graphics do not really knock me off the chair (why does everything need to be brown and grey?) and the gameplay looks like a mixture of Vegas and Splinter Cell.
This game was supposed to be my reason to spend 400 Euros on a PS3. I sincerely hope it stays this way.
Essentially, all consoles are pointless purchases.
On the essential level.
Why am I not discussing the video?
Work. The bastards.
Man, seems like Snake is going to be contemplating suicide a lot in this one... I just really hope Kojima doesn't try to replicate The Boss' death in this one, and make us pull the bloody trigger :(
...I may just have to leave the ps3 on forever...
@Tempestora: Rather than using the gun to eat a bullet, maybe he's using it to summon his persona.
@Tempestora: yea that scene got me confused as well. My guess is that the team just decided to "shift" that moment to another point in the story for dramatic effect or what have you.
Either that or Snake wasn't man enough to pull the trigger the first time around o_O
@HateFate: lol that's what I thought too!

This is probably the best trailer among all that we've seen so far. Short but enough to keep you at the edge of your seat. Those 15-min trailers were a bit too much
now this is what they call a game trailer that actually feels like a movie trailer!
English subs for this please? haha
How is it that they're able to have the faces and character models look so good in this game while Rockstar ends up giving GTAIV characters with faces like melted earwax? Look at Niko and then look at someone like Roy Cambell. Jarring.
Plus, whose grave is that? What happened to Raiden's child? And is Eva really Snake's biological mother? Hopefully these'll be answered in 49 days.
*Mild spoiler*
Aren't those the flowers from the end of mgs3 where you fight the boss?
Christ, man! Put a "Spoilers" label up there, will ya?
Super awsm trailer!
@Tempestora: I'm paraphrasing heavily here, but I think Kojima was asked if the footage in the early MGS 4 trailers was accurate as to their locations and actions. The inquiry was made because in the early MGS 2 trailers, there were segments that showed Snake doing things that only Raiden would be doing later on in the game; Kojima put Snake into those MGS2 trailers doing things that he doesn't do in the actual game (e.g. fight against an Harrier jump-jet) in order to keep Raiden's reveal a secret.
Something similar was mentioned regarding the locales and some of the actions in MGS 4. Kojima didn't say that there were hidden characters per se, but he said that some of the actions that occurred in those early trailers were meant to be revealed in a different locale in the actual game. Hence, the gun-in-the-mouth segment in this trailer - which is obviously in a different location than in the famous E3 2006 trailer (my favorite of the trailers, by the way).
Longwinded post.
reason to buy a ps3 besides the 1 game? (If it's the ony one that you really want)
Bluray player. That will work with all the standards unlike some of the early players that were rushed out.
so... I think it's established that Snake is going to kill himself.
@jerimas: That makes a lot of sense, Kojima and his team obviously have to tread the teaser/reveal line quite carefully or their games would lose a lot of their impact.
However, if he is indeed summoning his persona, then what is it? Is Raiden his Persona? is Snake really an androgynous flowery boy at heart?
@jerimas: Oh it's a TRAILER.
i hope to god that he does bite the bullet in this game. That would make for one hell of an exclamation point on the series.
Anyone else find it odd hearing mexican guitar music with Japanese voices?
I will most likely pick this game up for the possibilty it might be good. The PS3 is getting kinda dusty and needs something to play on it other than movies.
does snake kill himself at the end of the game?
There does seem to be a theme of suicide in this game. IIRC, this is the second time its shown in a trailer.
Wow, these graphics are looking really nice now. Seems like they've regressed somewhat to the MGS2 style, rather than the quasi-photorealism we were seeing in early trailers.
On the realism front though, Otacon's expression at 2:07 is one of the most convincing I've seen in any game. The shadowing on Snake's hand (not to mention their movements) near the end is pretty awesome too, though I told myself I would never be impressed by such things.
For some reason I'm rather surprised to discover that I am still very, very excited for this game.
@Madhotdog: Yeah. Big Boss's dormant genes have been activated and he's now taking Snake over. That's why Snake's trying to blow out his brains because he doesn't want to become his "father". Big Boss didn't create clones to continue his legacy, he made backups.
@Maxilicious: Yes.
i guess we all kno where the "implied suicide" came from, but 2 questions:
1. Wheres my "implied" child rape
and
2. WTF do the mini metal gears sound like drunk cows?!?!?!?!?!?!?
@MegaWatts: The original theme of the psone MGS is Japanese music, with Irish lyrics.
@DarkTravesty:
I can see it now.
Otacon: SNAKE! NOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Classic. haha
@Luke Plunkett: So what? There are too many trailers that have spoilerific imagery. If Konami can't be trusted to keep its secrets secret, then that burden falls upon Kotaku's broad shoulders.
@jerimas: One man's spoiler is another man's oh quit your whining seriously
@HateFate:
+1 for tieing MegaTen and MGS.
I'm excited for this game. Dare I say, stoked? Still, I just want it to be over and done with so Kojima can make me my Zone of the Enders 3 on the PS3.
@frostcircus: Very well. But it ain't for me, as I've rapaciously pored over any and all MGS4-related material. I just found some of the material in the trailer to be surprisingly... revealing.
But I suppose it's neither here nor there, since most of the people on this site are probably in the same boat as I am.
Discussion over. Time for bed.
Nice trailer. I enjoyed it and can't wait for this game!
What about that trailer was 'tactical espionage action'? I saw an old man duck out from behind a corner ans shoot for a few seconds, and somehow the 6 guys less than 10 metres away couldnt shoot him despite their high-powered rifles.
What is this game trying to be? It isn't splinter cell, and it isnt COD4...so where does it fall?
OH, and it all looks BROWN.
Uh, yeah. So we go from a perfectly rational game of terrorists and not-terrorists shooting, then we get some mechs, but since thats not messed up enough, the Japanese add in a chick with tentacles and a monkey? Uhhhhhh... yeah.
Why is this game popular again?
Also, the game looks like it uses the same color scheme as Gears of War, with steel grey and washed out brown on EVERYTHING!
Uh, most of that looked old to me.
@Salen: Because realism and goodness do not share the same measurement.
(also, hi, let's complain when Metal Gear games feature Metal Gears)
metal gear enemies in real life. just saw this:
+ Watch video
Wait a minute... there were 8 Big Boss clones, Solid, Liquid, Solidus, and 5 that were supposedly killed off in the womb to encourage growth of the other 3. This game takes place primarily in five different locations around the world. Snakes mission is to wipe out his bloodline from existance...
Liquid was wrong about Solidus, what if he was wrong about the other 5?
...
OK, I'm calling it. In MGS4 Snake goes out of his way to find and kill the other 5 clones of Big Boss, and ultimately Liquid Ocelot.
Phew.
That robot dog is amazing haha
I think i'm more blown away by the robot dog than the MGs news....hehe.
I want one!
@nottsville: the scary thing is that I almost felt compassion when it was kicked.
sorry for being offtopic, erm, MGS rulez
Do you think there will be a point in the game (towards the end probably) where Snake somehow gets his young self back and liquid gets his body back and they have a good ol' fist fight. I mean two old guys duking it out and falling over would be a bit anticlimactic. (yes i get what kojima is trying to do but still..)
@yojimbo32: In an earlier trailer it showed Snake in Metal Gear Rex and Liquid in Metal Gear Ray about to kick the mecha style crap out of each other. This is old man fighting on the NEXT LEVEL.
@frostcircus: I'm not saying you can't have fun and a lack of realism in a game, I'm just of the opinion that, ok, 12 foot tall walking gun platforms, totally believable. Cloaking Ninjas, ok. Psychic-powered gas-mask wearers, why not. A serbian from northern Iraq who has Viking blood, Errrr... maybe?
But, I don't know, it just seems like a little too much. Its like MGS4 wants to go hang out with FF7's Jenova or something because MGS4 heard that FF7 was really popular or something. I'm not a huge fan of overkilling a series with 'omgwtf' stuff.
