Club Nintendo's expanding into a new country! Sadly (for Americans) it's not America. Luckily (for Australians) it's Australia. I picked up my copy of Mario Kart this morning, and tucked softly inside the game's cover was this very personal invitation, asking me if I'd like to register the unique pin code found inside in exchange for Club Nintendo star points. Why yes, yes, I would. The Australian version of the site's not quite ready yet, so you can't browse the reward items, but it'll most likely be identical to the European one, so head there if you'd like to see just how many games you'll need to buy if you want that golden Link + Epona statue.
Australia, 24 April, 2008Reward yourself with Club Nintendo, now you can turn your Nintendo games into Star points with Nintendo's new loyalty program. Available now, Club Nintendo allows you to earn and swap Star points for exclusive Nintendo merchandise not available anywhere else. The first game that allows you to register for Club Nintendo is Mario Kart™ Wii.
Mario Kart Wii, Wii Fit™ and future participating products will come with a unique PIN code which allows you to register that you have purchased a particular game, and that's when Nintendo rewards you. Simply visit www.club-nintendo.com to input your unique code and join Club Nintendo where you will receive Star points credited to your membership account. Use your Star points to redeem Nintendo goodies from the Stars catalogue, which is only available to Club Nintendo members.
The Stars catalogue is not yet available to browse, however you can still register your product/s and reserve your Star points. Nintendo will email you once the full Club Nintendo website is up and running, so you can then redeem your Star points on premium items from the Stars catalogue, and that's when the fun begins!
Join Club Nintendo and gain access to the exciting world of Nintendo today! If you do not own any Nintendo product yet, you can still register to receive our Nintendo newsletter to be kept up to date with all the latest products, visit: http://www.nintendo.com.au/.
Further information about Club Nintendo will be forthcoming, once the full website is up and running.

As an American, I can't help but feel sad, but also patiently expectant. The only question is if all the games I have registered already will still count as 'star points' once this (hopefully) does come to America?
Any year now would be great Nintendo. Maybe they just figure we will keep on buying their games no matter what.
Please, Nintendo... please?
Please let this be in our Mario Kart Wii cases too. Please Nintendo. D:
Umm....how do I say this kindly....
Australia, fuck you.
=D
=(
No seriously I'm not playing Nintendo let America in on the fun for once >:
Go to hell nintendo. I would be first in line to join Club nintendo in america. I guess I'll go chalk up another one to the terrible marketing decisions NOA consistently makes.
I thought everyone was "wii together" instead of unequal fairness in america and other parts.
I remember someone from Nintendo saying something like "much more expensive to run a program like that in America"
To that I say Bullsh*t.
@gravytoast:
You guys get Rock Band, we get Nintendo Club Australia. I know what I'd prefer...
:(
GAAAHHHH! RAGE!!!
Mainly because I haven't been following this at all, what's the average amount of points per registered game and/or console? I see more than a few things on the Euro site that I like (bookends!), and it's a bit too bad that we don't have it yet, but I'm still curious if anyone knows the background figures.
I guess you aussies deserve a break once in a while, but ...
BOO!
Jeebus!
Nintendo is generally crap to Australia.
Out of the big 3, they're the worst for giving review copies, previews, etc.
So with North America receiving 40% of the global allocation of Wii consoles, we still get the shaft?
LAME.
I am however happy for the people in Australia. Enjoy it guys!
We need the Super Famicom controller for Wii too cause we have the same SNSES color scheme unlike the godawful NOA purple ones. But this will probably just get us pokemon key chains like on the Nintendo tours here :(
The best news out of this for Americans? It will finally cut down on the bitching Australia does about release dates.
Ok, probably not.
Well that sucks. I mean its good and all but honestly i think Nintendo doesn't want to bring that here because they would be giving out so much stuff it would make them lose money. I don't think they want that .
SNES**
well, America's got to be next in line, right? right?
I want it in North AMerica. I register So many games, that I would top atleast 60% of the Austrailian Nintendo Owners. C'mon Wii owners just buy a few, I buy em alllllll. Mostly.. lol
This is such fucking bullshit.
Uhhg this article got me excited...Please Nintendo, Americans buy all your wii's off the shelves within an hour. Find the kindness in your hearts to expand this club here already.
Good for Australia but... since when is America a country??? Last time I checked it was still a CONTINENT.
I can only assume Luke was referring to the United States, right?
I'd be nice to difference for the rest of us who DO live in America but not in the USA.
who would actually use their points on a wallpaper?!?! Unless its like real wallpaper that you can use to decorate your room :D
Ahahahahahahahahhahaha *gasp* hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
YAY.
That is all.
Wait that means I'll have to buy more Wii games I'll probably never finish.
Sigh.
Atleast DS games count right, right?
don't buy any nintendo wii for 5 months then nintendo is going to beg for change and loss.
Oh my god, oh my god. Please please please...
FUCK! Fuck Australia, fuck them in the ass! What the fuck is this bullshit? Since when does Australia get things that we don't? First it was MK Wii in Europe and now this. What's next? Here's how the hierarchy is supposed to go for Nintendo: Japan...America...Europe..............Maybe Australia like in a couple years.

Bull-S***!!!!
Why is it so hard to get this in America?!?! Hell, I'd pay for a lot of the stuff they let people get! Arg!
Well, at least I get game before them, so, :P
(Seriously, they get left in the dark, along with The UK)
@Vargas: I agree with you
@Vargas: You might want to check again, then, buddy! ;)
@Vargas:
Do you live in the hat or the beard?
@Vargas: You should know by now in your life that people generally use the term "America" to mean the United States of AMERICA more than North America. Yeah I know its kind of strange, but deal with it.
Seriously? Eff Nintendo. Being the 2nd biggest market (maybe the 1st? I dunno) for them and they continue to snub the U.S. with Club Nintendo content and benefits. This attitude is one of several reasons why I've abandoned Nintendo (after selling my Wii) for the long foreseeable future.
I got 2 invites in my box for some reason. I guess that counts as buying 2 copies of Mario Kart then. woo!
Hahaha, so for once the US gets the shaft? If I were a Nintendo fan still, I might care... I'm a classic Nintendo fan, but I'm not too fond of where they are today. If they have a "Classic Nintendo" club that snubs the US, maybe I'll be upset.
Hooray!
Finally! Not snubbed!
@Vargas: I'm gonna agree with Cartman, there... The Vast majority of the world refers to the US when they say America. Mexico is Mexico, Honduras is Honduras, Brazil is Brazil, etc... Otherwise, the continents are referred to by their full names: North America or South America...
There is no such thing as the continent of just plain "America" There is, however, the nation often referred to as America, and that's the US.
@Vargas: i dunno. i always thought people used the word "america" when describing the united states of "america".
Things like:
-"America" sucks.
-Death to the "American" pig dogs.
-"Americans" are fat
-Our country has more culture in a drop of pee than "America" has in their whole nation.
etc etc.
When talking about the continents though, i would say things like North or South America.
BUUUUTTTT....
after looking at the euro site, i must say there are only a few things im interested in and surprisingly none of them or cell phone ringtones or wallpapers.
Those bookends would be nice as would those wind up karts and a t shirt in small. everything else though is sort of meh
Wow. Most of the hot items are already sold out.
I can imagine the demand in Australia when it opens.
American's: "We're Getting shafted by Nintendo releasing MK:Wii in Pal region first!"
Nintendo: "That's not a shafting THIS is a Shafting"
Club Nintendo now availiable in Australia. Enjoy Australia.
<3 Nintendo
This, along with vegemite, almost make my 'Australia hate list' worth as much as my 'Australia is cool and I want to visit there for like 2 weeks' list. Damnit Nintendo! I haven't bought like well over $2000 of your products for some damn AIM icons and wallpapers! /cry
@SpishackCola:
Damnit, that apostrophe is supposed to be after list, not weeks.
Wow. Can't believe some of the comments here, I know you should be annoyed you haven't got Club Nintendo yet but still a bit over the top. Nice to see us Aussies get something cool from Nintendo.
@el_rezzo:
Nothing is over the top when it comes to "free" stuff! Where's my Super Nintendo (complete with purple/lavender, convex/concave buttons) Wii controller delivered from NOA in Redmond in a small white box?!?!
I also kinda want that yelling DS game NOJ sent out for Club Nintendo people last year.
I don't even care what Nintendo does anymore. I give up.
The only thing they could do at this point to make me more hateful towards them is if they tracked down every copy of EarthBound, forced them away from their owners, put them in a giant pile, and then proceeded to burn them and spit on the remains.
As you can see, I have some pent up emotions there. Have fun, Aussies! you lucky bastards...
@Vargas:
I say America(ns) not to spite the rest of the world, but it is just the naming conventions that were in place when the US was fleshed out to 40+ states. The personal example I use is that you don't called citizens of the UAE United Arabians do you? Probably not, and you also probably don't call people from the DRC Democratic Republicans either.
So basically... this is a big FUCK YOU to NA? Oh well. PAL has to put up with a lot of Nintendo's bullshit anyway, so I guess this is N saying PLEEZE DON'T GO!
Awesome, got mine today too Luke. This is great, I really hope I can get me one of those SNES wii controllers.
Man those things look pimp! (and I loved the snes controller)
@Krytha: i think this is to make up for Brawl not being out yet.
not to say it's good for us. DAMN YOU CLUB NINTENDO!!!
Nintendo is such a cocktease.
I know the Club Nintendo in Japan is pretty awesome. with cool Famicom controllers, Mario Kart themed Gamecube controllers, etc.
But the European Stars Catalogue sucks. It is very rare that anything you might actually want is put up on there. I've grabbed a copy of Star Fox Adventures, a GBA keyring and a Captain Jack Sparrow - more out of desperation than anything else. 40 games (and 4 consoles) worth of Nintendo stars got me that lot - that's approx £1000 spend for £40 value.
I recently traded my last 4000 stars for 1000 Wii Points - vaguely more useful...
@gravytoast:
Now now, it's NoA that's screwing you, not NAL. You're getting angry at the wrong people...
The day Nintendo bring Mother/Earthbound 3 over seas that's the day Club Nintendo will see the light on American shores.
*random side-note: Club Nintendo is the Name of the Mexican version of Nintendo Power.
Australia? Seriously? Great way to not appreciate your American audience, Nintendo. Awesome work.
@Gomerboy:
Unlikely, the star system works by games including a card with a scratch panel. Under the panel is a pin which you input online to claim your stars. So unless they've been including these all along I doubt they'll go to the trouble of finding a system of how to let people register their back catalogue.
Really it's pretty poor compared to the Japanese offering. Europe only very recently got anything semi-decent added to ours as before that it was nothing but wallpapers/ringtones. Oh and the occasional game that was sold out the moment it hit the site and cost more stars than you had anyway.
I just recently traded my 8k star points for 2k Wii points. The 4:1 conversion ratio was pretty sucky but at least they're being useful now.
Sony did this with the eyetoy stuff and Singstar, both of which I'm a fan of... It's annoying, but not the end of the world. It's almost penance for the way the Pal regions are treated the rest of the time...
@AncientFlounder:
@karmaghost:
Really now. Isn't this all a bit too much? Yes they're giving Australia club Nintendo before the US... whoop de freaking doo. It's not like you don't get everything months before the PAL regions.... oh wait you do.
But you want that AND this silly club Nintendo? That's just being damn greedy. Who care's if you're the larger market share, that doesn't entitle you to everything.
If you want though we could trade! How about we get pretty much everything first with rather few delays and uhhh you can have club Nintendo which barely has anything of interest, is sold out too often and your stars are worth very little. Oh wait don't forget when they throw you a bone and release something here first for a change! Oh wait whenever they do that the US only actually has to wait like a week more and not months like we have to.
So yeah seriously, shut the hell up. Don't act like you deserve the scraps we get off the table as well as your three course meal.
You US gamers are just sad. And I'm one of you, watching you all scream and cry about this is disgrace of the highest level. As long as Australia has gotten the shaft, they deserve such a perk to make up for the years of abuse.
Spoiled rotten. And we have no idea of what their offerings are going to be yet to boot!
@Newtype79: It's not at all bullshit, the costs to run such a program in the USA would be though the freaking -roof-, to say nothing of all the pitfalls.
You people also need to look at this in a good light, it could be Nintendo testing out how Club N goes outside of the UK and Japan.
Nothing to worry about really, there's never anything decent available and the wii points store is ALWAYS sold out...
