The Nintendo DS remakes of both Dragon Quest IV and Dragon Quest V look likely to make their way to U.S. shores soon, as a pair of recently filed trademarks have popped up on the US Patent and Trademark Office's web site. Filings for "Chapters of the Chosen" and "Hand of the Heavenly Bride" were submitted over the past two weeks, matching very closely to the subtitles of both DQ IV and V respectively.
The ESRB just published its E10+ rating for Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen but Square Enix has yet to make official a U.S. release. The Japanese re-release of IV happened last November, with V planned for this summer.

I have only one word to describe my feelings after reading this.
Yay.
I love Dragon Quest! I love my DS! Awesome!
@kagai: I like Dragon Quest I guess. I prefer PSP.
This story leaves me feeling empty.
Awesome! I knew they'd make it to the US
Dragon Quest IV and V. Oh, how happy does this make me.
This is the best news all day.
Just bought an NES copy of DQ4 so I'd be excited to play a more recent version. I haven't really tried it aside from a few minutes of a translated ROM but from what I've read DQ5 sounds like one of the most interesting in the series, so it'd be great to play that in English finally.
YES! WOOOOOH! Very excited to finally get the chance to play DQ 4 and 5 :D
Some may fault Dragon Quest for being too old school, but personally I love having that feeling of nostalgia every time I enter a Dragon Quest game. While I haven't played Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker yet I have played Rocket Slime on the DS and enjoyed it. Can't wait to give these games a go.
Out of the Super Famicom releases, I definitely like DQ5 the best, excluding DQ3 remake. Once the DS version gets released, this is the first time NA or EU will see DQ5 or 6, correct?
Oh man I was all over this when they announced it for Japan; I'd forgotten about it after they closed slime knights. I'm all excited now. :)
@djricekcn:
V and VI never made it to the States; probably not EU either.
I'd been thinking about getting a DS is all the remakes came across the pond. So i just might end up doing it.
What about VI? I liked that one more than IV or V (which are both great too).
@djricekcn: Don't you mean "DQ4 or 5?" At any rate, cool to see we USA folk will be able to finally play these in English. ...Remembering back in the day when they announced that DQ5 (then DW5) was cancelled on stateside SNES...hope it doesn't turn out for Squeenix to be a day late and a dollar short on these...
@Nobuyuki: from what I've heard the original 'Dragon Warrior IV' was crap translation at its finest (worst?) so it'd probably be wise to wait for the update. Hard to believe that they'd change scripts around to make Krifto and the princess do... oh, whatever, but then again that was way back in the late 80's/early 90's when no one cared about translations. Hell, I'm not sure the stance has changed all that much in the year 2008.
@metadae: V remake is due out in June in Japan, VI is yet to be announced (though obviously they will sooner or later). Wonder what's holding up the inevitable Chrono Trigger remake...
@jmsalal: No, I meant 5 and 6, since 6 is also coming out for the DS. 4, 5, and 6 are part of the Heavenly series (they are connected by time line, I think it was in order of 6 >> 4 >> 5, though not certain). 1, 2, 3 are part of Roto series (history order 3 >> 1 >> 2). 7 and 8 is each its own.
PSP please.
Slightly off topic, but I really wish there will eventually be a RPG for Emblem of Roto manga series with the same story feeling. I usually don't like game-based manga, but Emblem of Roto (both Arusu and the one with Aran's son) is really good.
I'm a little surprised, but this is good news. Hope they don't cost $40.
This is great news. I love me some DQ, and IV is the only DQ that I have never played, so the sooner the better!
@Do Kesubei: You know they will. That's the Squeenix "tax" that is applicable to all their DS games.
I'm all for it, but when are we going to see 1, 2 and 3 remade for the DS, huh? I still go back and play DW 3 all the way through every now and then.
@Hiroken: DENIED.
fufufufu
:3
I love Dragon Quest (well duh, I have a Slime tattoo).
But I also have a dirty mind, and when I read "Hand of the Heavenly Bride"... well...
Anyways, I wish Enix... I mean, Squeenix would remake the first 3 Dragon Warriors for the DS.
New life to my DS. Because right now, I'm all over my PSP.
NO YOU DON'T YOU IDORT
Oh.
Hell.
Yes.
so at this rate my friends will be playing DQ IV while i'm finishing up DQ VI. wow.
Hell yes, day one purchases for both!
That's the news I was waiting for. I can quit the internet now.
about time! i've been waiting for any kind of confirmation that they were coming here for a while now...
and when they announced that the DS remake of FFIV was coming, i kinda started losing hope seeing as it was released a whole month after DQIV in japan
I was still unsure if I wanted a DS or not, but now I'll get one as soon as possible!
@Illyr: I know what you mean. What I love about the DQ series is that it keeps it charm and what makes it DQ. Not like Final Fantasy that has changed radically over the years.
@BaseVilliN: The first DQ game EU got was DQ8, so, no. Probably not indeed.
Finally. Since FFIV DS and FFTA2 are coming here, why not Dragon Quest.
How long before IV comes... All they need to do is touch up that translation and it'll be fit for consumption.
About bloody time.
I always liked Dragon Warrior/Quest a little more than Final Fantasy and have been rather upset to see so many FF remakes and so few DQ ones...
Dragon Warrior IV is one of if not my all time favorite NES game ever. Dragon Warrior/Quest is one of my favorite series ever, which always tends to get overlooked in favor of other RPG series. So this is the best news i've heard all day.
Dragon Quest VIII was subtitled over in the UK, but yes, these remakes make me very happy and yet add some traditional RPGs alongside great modern ones like The World Ends with You.
