While we've heard quite a bit about Sierra's The Bourne Conspiracy, we haven't gotten much of a taste of the straight gameplay. So here's a big, ice cold scoop for your enjoyment. Hight Moon Studios obviously put a lot of time into capturing the quick cuts of the Bourne films. And while it looks like the effect will work, but we'd have to play it to find out. Otherwise, it's actually reminding us quite a bit of Uncharted: Drakes Fortune. You know, on a subway and stuff.

I'm not sure how that can work, unless button mashing is the best way to fight. There's nothing more annoying than up turning to down, or down suddenly going left (listen up Japanese developers!).
Hmmm. Not so impressive. I was hoping for more fluidity in combos etc. The Bourne of the movies always fought intelligently, but this didn't seem to show any of that insight. Just brawling and run-and-gun.
I love how after all that punching, he shoots that guy on the floor one time. Brilliant.
Looks kinda....awkward.
Needs...Matt Damon! Matt Damon! Matt Damon!
Eh, I'll give it a shot. I love joint locks in fighting.
The more i see of this game the more it piques my interest.
I'm just a little worried about the hand to hand combat. It seems like, from all the videos i've seen so far, is keep throwing the same couple of high punches until you get the opportunity to counter.
I'd like to see more mixing up of the combat before all the arm breaking. I hope there is a kick move, not just a basic couple of punches.
@SigmundTheSeaMonster: Needs more cowbell! More Cow.....Bell!
Gameplay looks like Uncharted, except not as good...
Worthless with out Matt Damon.
I think it is understood that all things need more cowbell.
The hand to hand looks sloppy. I sure hope it doesn't handle as bad as it looks. Though I am not sure what other combat system would work better. Hmmm...
The fighting in this game is supposed to be amazing and probably one of the main reasons you'd want to own this title.
After seeing this and another vid where Bourne fights some dude in the park, I'm just not buying it. The main characted looks exactly like Drake and the hide-and-gun, then run-and-gun mechanic is a ripoff from Uncharted as well.
A shame something more original couldn't be done, because this looks really derivative.
I feel much better about this game as soon as I saw the dot for aiming. I'll download the demo next month.
This actually looks kinda quality. As Mark said, there are a lot of parallels to the gameplay of Uncharted.
@SigmundTheSeaMonster: I'm pretty sure everything could benefit from more matt damon. Bourne Conspiracy? More Damon. Ben Affleck? Needs a lot of Damon just to survive. Halo? Can you say Matt-117? GTA? I give you The Talented Mr. Vercetti. Witzbold? Could use a Damon sidekick. Everything needs Damon.
@Mr.SithNinja: I think Cowbell and Matt Damon are totally interchangeable here.
@Eville1: Fully agree
@DaPress: There have been games before Uncharted that have used a cover mechanic in their games.
AWESOME
So far it looks less like Bourne and more like generic third person gun-fight 12.
The combat looks similar to Assassin's creed, as though the arm locks and other fancy bits are done with timed button presses and the like.
They do earn bonus points for shooting the downed guy though.
My interest in this has lessened after that video.
@Furious_Liver: You said it better than I could. The combat does look incredibly awkward. I couldn't figure out why I didn't like it but that one word sums it up.
I think it looks like it has a lot of potential. I am hoping the combat system is like that of Assassin's Creed, where you just hack and slash (or in this case punch and kick) and then hope for a well timed counter button-press to get the corresponding cut scene. Don't get me wrong, I loved AC, but the fighting style will get really old if it is the same type.
I'd like to hope we have more control over what we do in the fight.
Where's Flynn? Didn't he risk his life to get some of the earlier news about this title?
The shootouts look really weird...might be because the player was playing bad? The combat was kind of depressing, since it looks like all the cool stuff is automatically done.
I don't know about it. It could be a good game if they let you do the combos, but from I can tell they just transition into a animation that you have no control over.
Not impressive at all.
Great, let's take the boring Quick Time Event and then make it the mainstay of our combat system. That's a great way to get gamers interested in the game.
Call me when this game has an actual combo system.
@AZTriGuy: Flynn doesn't live here anymore...
High Moon is a good studio, and while this is still a licensed property they're starting to ramp up the quality.
Looks like they have solid core 3rd person shooting mechanics; fighting looks a bit wonky but from what I remember of their early goals, they seem to have pulled it off.
@Josimba: Oh yes, I'm familiar with the cover mechanic being used in other games (Gears of War stands out most notably in recent past). I just used Drake as a comparison because the characters look a lot alike and the gameplay looks very similar too.
i'm actually quite impressed with how this game is turning out. i may actually pick this one up on release (or at least give it a rent)
This actually impressed me quite a lot. I hadn't been paying any attention to this game but it's on my radar now. Combat looked fun, framerate was great (Save for the hiccups when the glass broke). I'll definitely rent it at least now.
If that was a jungle, you could be excused for thinking it was Uncharted.
hmmm seems those enemies suffer from assasins creed syndrome. Stand around and wait for other bad guy to die then try to fight player.....and then die yourself. Meh
There's potential in a Bourne game, no doubt about it. However, this video just doesn't look like a game ready for a June release. It's too dark, muddy, and like many have already pointed out, the movement is... wonky. Sadly, it appears to be no different than the plague of all the other book/movie-games. Vaguely resembling the IP, while against all odds, making them bland.
Lets hope the demo proves me wrong, and the game plays as fun as the Flynn's adventure article was to read. But going off this video, I fear for the worst.
I'd rather watch "I'm fucking Matt Damon" on repeat for the entire duration of this game. looks like more fun.
Cross that off the list, thanks.
Anyone play Matrix: Path of Neo?
Overall, not a great game, but they managed to create a decent combo-linking system and multiple attacker fight system.
@Shiloa: I was confused by the Uncharted comparisons too. Besides the FPS parts and the character model of course.
Looks like the AI has been taking tips from the Assassin's Creed School for waiting your damn turn hippy!
Color me interested.
@Cojo21:
The main reasons why I continued to play Path Of Neo was because the Fighting was pretty awesome. I am looking foward to this game and will download the demo when it hits early next month.
looks like a direct rip off of uncharted, I would say. i don't know if that's intentional, or not, but it's disappointing, for sure.
mmm nothing special so far , not intriguing enough :S
on a side note , anyone else find some of these Gawker Artist pics a tad over creepy sometimes lol
sometimes i just sit there starring at them forgetting I'm in kotaku lol
Why are there no other posts under the "Bourne Consipiracy" tag?
I like it so far. The camera view is quite nice.
Nice. I'm a bit worried, about the execution, though.
Looks like a typical modern action game which is ripping off another 5 or 6 popular games. What are the bets for quicktime events?
... Well I was excited about this.
When I breach a room I ... tend to um take a gun?
Think I will give this one a miss. Nothing special.
Hehe...the fact that they didn't have a model of Matt reminded me of Minority Report when they didn't use a model of Tom for the game. But I am sure using the likeness of both actors would have increased the game's budget.
Good to see that enemies follow the "Polite Ninja" rule while watching their friend getting ripped a new one while patiently waiting to be next in line.
The crotch-shot with the guy flying backwards, crossing between the trains at the end, and my general love of the movies, has officially sold me on this game.
@黒天使:
And yeah, those Gawker Artists things scare the shit out of me on a regular basis.
Looks decent, but I was really hoping for more polish.
The hand-to-hand looks quirky and there were a few awkward transitions from animation to ragdoll. One or two enemies got punched backward with quite a bit of momentum and then when ragdoll took over, they fell and slumped to the floor too slowly.
More like EXACTLY Uncharted in subways. With improved melee.
@StealthMaster86: I was thinking I should fire up the old X-block and give it another run. Would have been better as a Matrix sandbox fighter.
Yeah, so why should I be interested if I'm not playing as Matt Damon?
I mean, it's Bourne, right? And Matt Damon is the fucking man. So why exactly am I not playing as him?
"Oh, you're some other random Treadstone agent with a past, special guest cameo by Damon if we can afford it."
That said they look to have got the combat feeling like the movies, which is cool. Needs to be more fluid and visceral though. The driving scenes should be interesting - if they can get the feel of that down it could be pretty intense.
@Erwin: Comment of the week, Y/Y?
@will: Indeed. I distinctly recall watching Ma-I mean, Bourne take out a CIA agent and an armed cop at the same time during Supremacy. I keep that thought to remind me I still haven't seen Ultimatum.
@Jonn: Ultimatum is effing sweet. It ties in very well with Supremacy, without getting into too many spoilers.
Uncharted 2: Urban Fisticuffs
I watched the video twice. I think whoever is 'demoing' the game just plays like ass.
@kidCasey13: I'll have to agree with you. I just think the person playing it isn't that familiar with it... either that, or Bourne only punches people in the face.
Also, hooray for unrealistic health recharging! I love it when I can get shot with an assault rifle multiple times in the torso, then hide behind a box for a few seconds and be as good as new.
