Criterion has just announced a major addition to Burnout Paradise. Planned for their "Davis" update this August, the download will include motorcycles (a first for Burnout) along with "their own game modes, challenges and even some new locations tailored to fit their unique performance and handing characteristics." From that statement we're assuming that cars and bikes will not race side-by-side, but you can take it as you will.
In addition, the Davis update will bring night time driving to the game—adding a bit of realism to freely racing around public streets without getting constantly arrested and frisked. Here's the full Criterion announcement:

They should announce the restart a race feature
Heh davis,i gotta say I love the updates names.
Challenge: Complete Road Rage in Motorcycle.
Challenge: Complete Marked Man in Motorcycle.
Hmmm. This game just got a little bit cooler.
Best of luck to Criterion in rolling this out.
This is it.
This is why I'm going to buy Paradise.
I half expected to see a bike with nobody on it. Why then, are the cars vacant?
Oh well, nice update.
I finally broke down and bought this after resisting. I have been a big Burnout fan the last few games. And I am just having trouble getting excited by this. I really despise the aimlessness of it all. Open world is not better in all games. Oblivion? Love it. GTA? Sign me up. Racing? meh.
Didn't I hear something about another Road Rash coming soon?
i just wet myself, but that could also be because of the kidney stone im wating to pass! either way this is great news!!!! i cant wait to slow-mo crash on the bike and slide 1000ft!!!
Whatever happen to the McQueen update, maybe they are saving that for December
Loved this game, but the stunt challenges gave me the hardest times. Perhaps the motorcycles will make it a little easier for me to complete what I have remaining.
I love this game. I can't wait for these updates though I only wish it was sooner.
Though one thing bugs me...why do the bikes have drivers? The cars don't(with the open-wheels being the only exception).
Is the who BP world made up of a vampired driving remote control cars during the day?
@Morpork: When you crash a bike in Burnout Paradise, the driver disappears apparently.
@lionkitten: The game is not just a racer.....
Is that as in Bette Davis?
This is seriously cool though. Can't wait to see a high speed, high impact motorcycle crash...
@VixDiesel:
That's funny, I guess there will be people now who listen to DJ Atomica.
Got the game from gamefly about three weeks ago, but it was really low on my list. Now, the family has invested over 30 hours in it. =/ ...I don't think we ever want to complete the long list of showtime road rules :(
hmmm is it me or is BO going the "down the drain" route that NFS took when Underground was released
it's not BO we know and love any more T_T
I'll stick to BO2 thanks
@Meldy: Think it's Sammy Davis
Who wants to bet that the next Need for Speed will have motorcycles too?
Color me impressed...another fantastic update to a game that's a blast to play (esp. with friends online) Can't wait and kudos to the Criterion team for continuing to add features, replay value and for keeping me from putting the eff'ing game up.
@Morpork:
Ghostbike would look REALLY stupid.
But that brings up a good point, how are they going to handle the horrible wipeouts and keep the E rating.
Looks like Burnout's taking inspiration from mario kart. Maybe we can expect turtle-shells and stars in the sequel?
@caleb:
Interesting that you used the word "kudos". Freudian slip much?
I love bikes, but... it would sure suck to be obliterated by the slightest tap and have zero recourse to do any damage to anything on 4 wheels.
@Kyle81:
WHAT?
If that's true, it would be a Burnout game with worse crash physics than a Gran Turismo game (Tourist Trophy).
Hell to the yeah, now that's how you do a software update.
Add a whole new game to the existing content.
Talk about replay value.
I really considered buying the game for the PS3, but when I played the demo, the "behind the car view" really ruined the experience for me. I felt like the car was always blocking my view. A minor issue to some, but a deal breaker for me.
This is kinda cool. I wasn't interested in this game before but it seems like a good package now, especially since it's lower in price.
@Kyle81: Just goes to show you motorcycles are dangerous... any sort of crash and the rider is instantly vaporized.
@StupidityTries: You know you can go first person with your view....
@fuchikoma: Supposedly they showed a brief video of the bike in action and that when it crashes, the rider just sorta is not there anymore.
@Meldy: ha ha might Bette but ill put my money on Sammy
@Kyle81:
Yeah, but first-person is even worse in my opinion when it comes to racing games. I have a terrible time gauging my surroundings in it.
Almost all the racing games I've played in the last years have done the 3rd person well: Motorstorm, NFS, Excite Truck... It just baffles me why Criterion deviated from the norm.
Burnout, at least for me, is about crashes. Wrecking your ride and watching metal crumple and parts fly.
I've got a feeling that the motorcycles won't quite be like the cars and trucks. I'm thinking it'll just be races, beating the clock, etc...
...but that's not why I bought Burnout. If they're adding bikes, I hope I'll be able to run it right into a wall and see the wreck in all its slo-mo glory.
@Kyle81: Aww and here i was hoping to see the human body being thrown about like a ragdoll after crashing into a truck going the opposite way :(
Being able to play at night is gona be advantageous for me since my problem is always hitting the oncoming traffic! >_<
@Kyle81:
No actually, this game is everything BUT a racer.
You forgot to mention the planes D: You can see video of it near the end of the crash tv thing
[www.criteriongames.com]
I am SO fucking happy i've boaght this game! This is what DLC is for!
@akashhhhh: Those 30 some race challenges and online races just don't exist. We have been making it up for almost 6 months now huh? Racing is just only a fraction of what Burnout:P is.
@aveneyer:
Could you give me your opinion of gamefly.I'm interested in it.You can post it on my page if you want.
I wish I hadn't traded Burnout in now..
big woop they added motorcycles.
This raises some really interesting questions, like how the hell are they going to deal with crashes? Introducing people to the burnout franchise brings with it a host of other issues to consider, like implementing ragdoll physics, and more importantly, maintaining their E10+ rating from the ESRB.
How do they expect not to be immediately lambasted by the ESRB when a player on a motorcycle slams head on into an on-comming car at 90mph and the driver's body flies 100 feet, only to land in a broken heap? And if they don't implement ragdoll physics, how can they seriously maintain their PR statements about realism?
@Kyle81: Leads me to believe they simply don't care. So much for realism.
Oh. My. God.
This has the potential to allow super fast zippy motorcycle stunts, and even crazier crashes.
Now just don't make it suck, like PGR4! (I'm kidding, it was ok; not allowing cars and bikes to race may be a quick fix)
Yikes... will the bike crashes be as spectacular as the car ones? This could be awesome.
This was a really fun rental when it first dropped, and with all that they've added since and all that they plan to add, I'm now strongly considering picking it up, even if I do have to suffer through DJ Atomica.
@黒天使: Keep your "WE" to yourself, the non-linear game play and changes are why I bought this game in the first place and skipped revenge.
@Atheist Jew: The game is already rated. They can't add crashes with people in it to the game at this point.
Realism? Whats realistic about burnout? Really nothing. The cars have boosters on them, they do crazy stunts and perform crazy drive aways after accidents.... you crash others for fun. There are no pedestrians.
Burnout isn't about realism.
I don't get why they would want planes. I suppose midair "burnout" would be interested to say the least. But seems to deviate a little too far away from pure burnout.
It's Bette Davis, not Sammy. With this and the new island they are adding, this will be a completely new game come fall. Pretty psyched for it all.
This is awesome! I normally don't get excited like this for racing games, but paradise has me captivated. So much to do, so many cars. I love it. Can't wait until august :D
