Metal Gear Solid 4 violent? Let's hear what the British Board of Film Classification says:
METAL GEAR SOLID 4 is a third person tactical/stealth game. The player takes on the role of an aging soldier, Snake who can be armed with knives, guns and grenades. The game has been classified '15' for strong violence.During battles enemy soldiers die with small puffs of blood. The weaponry includes petrol bombs, however there is no detailed portrayal of injuries. During cut scenes slightly more detailed violence is portrayed, such as enemy creatures spearing friendly soldiers and one protracted fist fight.

The violence is generally undetailed. At 15 BBFC Guidelines state that 'Violence may be strong but may not dwell on the infliction of pain or injury'. It is possible for the player to progress stealthily through the game, avoiding violent confrontations where possible.The game also features one use of strong language and references to suicide and an implied child rape.

Eds Note: We contacted Kojima Productions' Ryan Payton, who offered this insight: "There is no mention of rape in the game. There is mention of child trauma, which is probably why they added 'implied.'"

Maybe one of the enemy bosses was a child soldier who had a tough life growing up? I think it would fit with setting of a war torn city and MGS has been known to have bosses with tragic pasts.

Umm... Arent the spoilers in the topic title? Ah well, it's vague enough for me not to care, but I can see where some might voice an objection. I think this is going to have something to do as to why one of those female...bot...things and how they became such a thing.
First it was GTA: SA, then Manhunt 2, now MGS4?! Thats one game you don't mess around with! Especially with alot of fanboys antsy [like me! ^_^ ]for this game! Plus, MGS4 shows the reality of war and how it's never glamorous. Plus, it also teaches us a lesson. Don't use cloning technology from the 70's, never clone to begin with, and if you really want to kill a snake cut off it's head or crush the skull. Finally, it's educational as well. After playing MGS3 after it's release I passed History. So whoever is doing this especially to a game that's teaching millions of lessons then it means they have alot of time on their hands and they need to get laid. Badly.
What people need to be concerned about is the friggin' news. Where it's real. Tons of stories about people committing suicide and raping children there. Damned sensationalism.

It would sound bad to say I'm now more interested in this game than before, so I won't. But this is either something small being overblown or MGS has finally pushed into the world of grown ups. Did MGS really just become the first mature game in what I always considered the true sense of the word? I'm sure there will still be wackiness (see crotch grabbing and alien picture parody) but this is intriguing. I would love to see games deal with serious subject matter, but don't tell me GTAIV will be the next Boys Don't Cry.

Isn't it obvious folks? It says implied Child rape which makes it clear to me that Snake is going to need to "borrow" a diaper and will have to remove one from a child. Nothing more than that I would guess.

If it works in the story of Metal Gear and it's needed for the plot (not just thrown in for shock) then I welcome it. A game like this is for thinkers. You want to know how these characters interact within their universe.

did you guys even read the post or the provided link? this isn't a popular news article by mainstream media, this is simply an analysis by the BBFC. they stated the existence of the implied child rape, with no opinionated commentary whatsoever.

I'd hate for this to put a negative shadow over what promises to be one of the best games of the year.

@Erwin: I know you didn't. I think I was knocking you more for saying that MGS is not mature. If you have never played a MGS game before, I highly recommend going to Wikipedia and getting an update on some characters (EVA, Naked and Solid Snake, Gene, Boss, The Sorrow...) and certain gameplay mechanics of MGS3 (eating rats to survive) or MGS:PO (brainwashing soldiers) and you'll understand how wrong your comment was.
