Wow, I'm not sure where to begin with this one. I'm not often overly critical of games, especially ones that haven't released yet, but I have to say here and now that I was very disappointed in the Fifty Cent game. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it certainly wasn't what I was presented with.
The plot of the game involves 50 Cent and his G-Unit crew who are performing a concert in a "war torn country." Things start getting bad and Fifty and his pals must use an arsenal of weapons to help stop the terrorists involved. Something about watching this game being played really left me with a feeling that everything was kind of tacked on. Like they started out to make a terrorist themed arcade shooter and when it don't work out, added in 50 and friends to help sell some units.
The game makes use of an over the shoulder style of shooting and employs the good old "run and gun" and "duck and cover" mechanics to much use. The whole games point system is based on killing as many people as you can and watching your score go up. Each character has their own weapon of choice that can be added to with twenty various weapons that can be found lying about or taken off of downed enemies. There is also hand to hand combat involved with contextual button kill moves that were really rather disturbing in their stark realism.
The whole game smacked of a certain stereotypical representation of the rap community that seemed a bit forced. I mean you pick up "bling" which you can then sell to buy more weapons and includes a mechanic called "Gangsta Firing Time." Haven't we moved past this sort of thing? The whole thing left me with a sort of empty feeling of a game with no real substance.
That said, the graphics were nice and those of you out there who are 50 Cent fans will be pleased to hear that the soundtrack will include exclusive tracks by Fifty and crew from their upcoming album. The game will support co-op play and online drop-in co-op as well as leaderboards. Hopefully they will be able to do something to improve this title before it launches on the 360 and PS3 this fall.

YOU DID NOT MENTION THE SKULL.

Screw this modern bullshit. When are we getting a Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince "Girls Ain't Nothin' But Trouble" 2D sidescroller, or an N.W.A. "Just Don't Bite It" RPG?
i don't know why you hoped for anythng less than mediocre Flynn. but hey i won't knock ou for at least investagating into the matter.
so wait.....I have no words.
And the fact that 50 would willing be a part of this shows just how ignorant he is.
Money can't buy you wisdom or cultural awareness....OR good sense I suppose.
Hey, 50 Cent is remixing the Gears of War "Everything's Brown" philosophy of coloring.
And a "War-torn country"? Is that like CoD4's "Unspecifiedastan".
I wouldn't pay fiddy cents to get this. OHOHOHO! /sing
@Mister Adequate: I fail. :( /zing*
Damn, from the screens it looked like they actually had a neat game going there. I actually liked the story just because of how bat-shit crazy it was.
I do agree though that the over the top rap references have grown a little stale. I think the Def Jam wrestling games were the only ones to kind of pull that of right.
im starting to think my "50 Cent, Wanksta Mode" game might actually be a good idea.
50 Cent Contra style sounds like it would blow this out of the water.
Added 50 in to sell some G-Units, you mean.
Ho ho ho ho ho!
I'm so glad rappers are experts in anti-terrorism and helping to sort out war torn countries. Is the sequel going to be "Fiddy Cent saves Iraq"?
What i saw in the trailer/teaser it looked like a fun game! dont know if thats a good thing, but it sure got me smiling :) Lets just see how it "raps" when it comes out, shall we.
At least you get to see Fifty cent get shoot. And any game where you can see Fifty cent get shoot gets 5 out of 5 stars in my book.
Stereotypical representation of rap culture: Check.
Stereotypical representation of Mid-Eastern country: Check.
More or less offensive game to anybody with a sense of morality: Check.
Yeah, this should sell a shit ton.
@Flynn
The fact that you were dissapointed goes beyond my amazement :P
Kanye's game will blow this out of the water.
GOTY!
@Hubert Humphrey Methadone: 4 hours of whining and crying about a hard life that he didn't live =p? Like the music, hate the /emo part of it :(
@Ett: Have you seen the trailer? Seeing him take a shotgun blast in the chest and yet still coming smelling of roses kind of dulls the edge.
Aw, snap, dawg. Flynn be hatin' on this off the hizzy krunk glass of playa-ade!
You better represent!
Does it control well or is it just the feeling that's off?
Would you say it's better than the newest Soldier of Fortune, or about the same?
The sad part is this shit will actually sell.
We are all doomed.
@Zaos: I hate it when people uses the term emo wrongly.
Goddamnit people, can't you research the term before using it? Emo =/= angst.
Also, Fiddy Cents is the worst rapper ever.
There needs to be a MF Doom videogame.
that is all.
Antithesis of all that is good in the world. This game.
This shit is boring.
50 cent saving us from a terrorist threat???? LMAO, are you kidding me!?
@Luuey: To be more correct its more like saving his own ass from a terrorist threat.
@Witzbold: We are all DJ Dangerdoomed.
/fixed
@Luuey: He did that years ago. It's a true story man!
50 cent goes to space camp
50 cent and the people from mars
50 cent and the invasion of Nickle's Smalls
50 cent Lost In New York.
yah im having fun, u to?
I'm holding out for The Game: The Game.
Perhaps, the developer had a large amount of middle eastern assets already made for a game (perhaps a sequel to a PS2 game) when said game might have been cancelled. Then your publisher decides to do another 50% game and lo your assets are no longer wasted and you're making a joke game.
I could be making it all up though ;)
Didn't he say he was going to quit the business if Kanye's album sales beat his?
It did, and he's still here.
Damn.
50 cent 2 hun? You mean the dollar?
shitty game, nothing in the world will change that
@KaneRobot:
That's some eff'ing brilliant stuff man!
@Dakobah:
50 Cent Around the World in 80 Days
50 Cent and the Half Blood Prince
Yeah, you're right! That's fuuuun!
After getting shot by a handgun it was only natural that 50 would want to try an assault rifle round.

This is the ONLY bad thing about the game said, and it's completely irrelevant to whether it's actually good or not. I'm sure these representations or no more over stereotypical than what you see in every single GTA game.
I wouldn't expect much substance from this game either, and if you were expecting it you should find a new job and hobby, because you don't know much about video games.
Let me try and understand this preview,
50 and pals are busy rapping in some Middle Eastern country when all of a sudden he's attacked by terrorists.
50 gets angry and decides to go on a quest to defeat the terrorists who stopped his concert.
Using an arsenal of ripped off game mechanics from much better games such as: "Gangsta Time" in which he makes his best Max Payne 1 squished up face and shoots in slow motion and "run and gun" tactics, 50 Cent must go and kill who's behind this evil plan to blow up his concerts.Kanye West.
Did it control any good though?
'Alien Vs. Busta Ryhmes'
Bling? ohyefuckinggods NO.
I can't imagine your expectations were very high to begin with, Flynn, and the fact that the game still disappointed hugely... that says it all right there.
If I could erase all celebrations of the gangsta thug lifestyle from all forms of media, I would do it in a heartbeat. What an embarrassment for the American culture.
Man, you people have NO sense of humor. This game is so stupid and campy, how can it NOT be good?
I'm going to get this game, multiple copies of it, and give it to people I do not like. Then I shall laugh super villain style as their brain slowly and painfully dies while they play it. MWAHAHAHA
I really liked 50 Cent:Bulletproof for two reasons.
1) It was only $5 new.
2) It was a throwback to a time in the late 90's/early 2000's where every other game for the PSX was a third-person shooter with horrible controls.
@RawSteelUT: Yes, because rappers are known for not taking themselves to seriously...
Flynn! You're not supposed to be disappointed yet!! :(
It was my dream to have this game build up a tremendous amount of hype with previews and then to have all the reviews 2.0 (aggregate score) it across the board :) Now that would be classic! :D
@SorenKier: Well there was a time when rappers didn't take themselves seriously at all. (remember the Run DMC song about finding Santa's wallet and trying to give it back to him? or the Skee-lo song "I Wish" that was about wishing he was taller and better at basket ball?). But now that the image of the super tough white-t-shirt-gold-chain-wearing rapper has been heavily commercialized, that whole super serious "damn son look at how hood I look" image is all that is around anymore. At least in the mainstream anyways.
i still see cart full of first 50C game at my base exchange here in Misawa...
there's just no way to get rid of the stuff...except to bury it somewhere deep...
So....
Black zombies are racist...
But somehow this is ok.
What a load of crap.
Is there a bonus stage where they drink 40's, smoke blunts, and smack bitches?
