Japan has a fever. The only cure? More Mario. The plumber dependent masses helped push Mario Kart Wii to the top of the Media Create sales charts, with over a half-million Wii Wheels shippin' out in week one. That impressive debut helped unseat Monster Hunter, which scooted past Super Smash Bros. Brawl's sales in just three weeks.
Very little in the way of new sales contenders, as newbies Oshiri Kajiri Mushi no Rhythm Lesson DS and the Japanese release of Turok enter the top thirty for the week of April 7 to 13.

4 million+ for Nintendo on just Mario Kart, Brawl, and Wii Fit. And that's just in Japan. Geez. They're doing just fine.
Its as though in Japan, the centre of all technology and videogames (well the pioneers at the very least), they've gone backwards, with lower tech. Weird eh.
Monster Hunter is kicking ass.
29. Turok (Xbox 360) Yay I love it when a 360 game pops up on the Japan chart. Its like the one 6'5" white guy you see walking down the stairs to the subway.
I'd have an issue with the continuing Mario mania if the games weren't so damn good.
PS2 games are still owning it up... amazing
The Monster Hunter expansion has outsold SSBB? I guess those Japanese really do love their Monster Hunter.
Monster Hunter has serious legs.
Mario Kart is printing money...
A mario game, pokemon, monsterhunter , and a playstation rpg, yup a normal sales week in japan.
@Grimmjow Jeagerjaques: serious monster legs.
:p
@Onizuka-GTO: the girl in your avatar has No Emotion!!! NO EMOTION!!!
Well, don't forget, there's a great deal more PSPs out there in Japan than there are Wii's. If availability is still a concern across the Pacific, then SSB:B will have some pretty awesome legs, as well.
Not that I'm saying it's going to surpass Monster Hunter, don't get me wrong, Monster Hunter will probably finish out the year at least in the top three over there, if I had to guess. I'm just saying that SSB:B will have some pretty strong legs, like always.
We need mroe games like this. Keep giving the "casual" their Wii fits and such, I need oldschool Nintendo proper games. And someone call Namco and tell them I want Ace Combat on the Wii. (But "The Sky Crawlers" will have to do...)
I can't believe Star Ocean didn't do a good job. I honestly believed that Japan loved that game. I hope they bring it out here because unlike Konami who hasn't brought the Suikoden pack for the psp out of Japan. That makes me mad!!!! *rips screen from laptop*
Nintendo is dogging the competition as usual....
but Sony is showing some gusto for 08, its gonna be interesting to see how MGS4 fares in japan against nintendo come June.
Of all the 360 games to make the top 30... Turok? Seriously?
So what is that 22 of 30 for Nintendo? Does that mean its time for another WSJ article on the demise of Nintendo? MS on the way up here?
WOOOOOOO TUROK!!! GO 360!!!! WOOOOOO
Thursday, April 24th, Nintendo releases year end numbers....enjoy betches!
O_o
o_O
is it safe to cross?
@Vidril: Mario Franchise in general prints money.
Lets start the week count down till MK Wii reaches 1 million units.
@Shindokie: Read my Messages: The Suikoden not coming to the US might have something to do with the moratorium of PSX/PS2 ports that Sony USA put on PSP developers; despite having 2 games packaged as one, it probably didn't pass muster as "40% new content" or whatever the requirement was. That said, you could always import it...and learn Japanese...>_>
EROTIC PSP GAME? WHERE ARE YOU?
Wow - Nintendo just dominates the software charts in JP. They've really got that market figured out.
Only one PS3 title in the top thirty?
@frandroid:
two games
If Sony doesn't get Monster Hunter on the PS3 then they are all fools!!!
@tpacchia: You didn't read the WSJ article very closely. They were talking about the Wii not Nintendo as a whole. The DS takes up a good chunk of that list.
Looking for a non-Nintendo or Capcom Wii title on that list...Deca Sports (@133,000).
@Ghostm: That's not really up to them, it's up to Capcom, and they already decided on the Wii. It'll probably make them a lot more money there anyway.
God help the store-owners of Japan when Monster Hunter 3 for the Wii is released.
Let the Mario Money Printing begin!!
Does this chart list only console or PC games as well? I've noticed that PC gaming isn't what it used to be, especially because the console generation transition isn't nearly over and the PC has a lot less to offer to somebody deciding between a console and a PC.
Turok is the 360 saver for Japan! LOLZ
Is it just me or is New Super Mario Bros. actually climbing the charts there... as well as Animal Crossing Wild World?
WOAH
seven games that arent on a nintendo platform are on the listz!
Wow, the Nintendo brainwashing epidemic continues.
