Mortal Kombat Vs. The DC Universe, announced last week, doesn't sound so bad. But did you know that we almost had Mortal Kombat Vs. Street Fighter in its place? Mortal Kombat co-creator Ed Boon recently revealed that:
I did a couple of write-ups and whatnot on it, and sometimes we'd get really close to it but issues like our representative for the other company left the company for some reason, and that reset the whole thing back to beginning.[Ed note: contrary to Boon's statement, the game actually did go through. But upon hitting store shelves, Mortal Kombat Vs. Street Fighter Annihilation Vs. Dark Horse Comics Or Something set of a massive "Big Boom" explosion, eventually ceasing life as we know it before restarting the entire cycle again over billions and billions of years. Notably, the game only received a 75 on IGN, begging the question, "was it really worth it?"]

What a shame. That would have been an interesting title.
To the editor: Source plz.
Wait I know what game your talking about! I found it at a flea market and -- OH NO ;AJSDFNHQ4T803QWJSDFO;GJNDFBXMCVBMXC,.BGT
...
eh...
Off topic, but I don't care, I want Marvel Vs Capcom 2.
A miracle must happen.
Doesn't sound that bad? Really? Because I think it sounds awful. Marvel VS Capcom, I can do. No blood, no fatalities to take out, etc. But DC\MK... Ugh.
The entertaining part about that idea is that even if it did happen, Akuma would probably just instantly kill everybody from MK with the Shun Goku Satsu. It'd be the best fatality ever.
How would you block?
This would have been such a better concept than MKvDC. I wouldn't have even minded a lack of fatalities. Quite frankly they were/are just something to keep a mediocre fighter interesting.
Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat is one of those gaming ideas that sounds good in theory, but in practice, would never work. Those games play entirely differently from one another. Plus, how would you handle fatalities?
I definitely agree with the editor's note. Street Fighter vs. Mortal Kombat would shatter and relaunch our actual universe "Crisis on Infinite Earths"-style.
It was totally worth it to see chun-li's big-hand fetish-ality.
Amazing picture.
@Archaotic: But Scorpion would come back for his ass. For eternity.
I would love to see Bison's fatality.
Sonja v Chun-Li - battle of the thunderthighs...
Mortal Kombat v Marvel would have been the better choice for Midway, I feel.
@Rebel Without Applause: Get a dreamcast, its already out.

If only we got a 3...
MK vs SF would be fun, aside from the fact that the fighting systems dont mesh very well. And Boon would probably want it 3D. And Fatalities would probably be absent.
this isn't even worth writing a comment about. y would capcom ever dirty their name and make a vs against mk. and besides i would want midway making a street fighter game. that would make my eyes bleed.
we all know campcom is the king of the versus series. it's a pitty they haven't made any new ones recently. i'd sure like to see a marvel vs capcom vs snk
wouldn't*
You know the second time I read the headline I though I read
"Mario Kart Vs. Street Fighter Kind Of Almost Happened"
I think the Universe must have reset itself when i hit refresh....such awesomeness cannot be.
"Vs. Dark Horse Comics"
Mmmm...BPRD fighter...
@Rebel Without Applause: A miracle must happen for you to get a game that is on PS2, Xbox, and Dreamcast?
But hey, if you never played it don't fret. It isn't as good as the first anyway, unless you like ridiculously cheap unbreakable "combos" with certain entirely broken characters.
@TheCleaningGuy: @Lackshmana:
I already have MVC2 in my Dreamcast, what I really want is MVC2 to be on XBLA (like Soul Calibur will be).
OR, i'll take a part 3, either way, I want game on my 360 that has MARVEL & CAPCOM in the title.
Mortal Kombat vs Street Fighter would be amazing if it was made by Capcom
@slomo788:
Come to think of it, you're right. Akuma vs. Scorpion would be an epic battle for the ages.
I'd still think Akuma would win though eventually, thanks to the Shun Goku Satsu's power to completely vaporize people with a lot of evil in their hearts.
Someone mentioned it already, but it wouldn't work. The games play differently. One of the games would have to bend to fit the design of the other, and that would never happen.
Alternatively, the game could be some sort of combination of the two styles. But that runs the risk of alienating fans of both series.
@Archaotic: No one can argue that Akuma is stronger, but since Scorpion can't technically die... It would be interesting indeed.
@Archaotic: Youtube Mortal Kombat versus Street Fighter
OKAY. I just have to post this because it's relevant.
Scorpion vs. Ryu GO?

I have a feeling Capcom would've felt the same as DC (presumably) does about fatalities and blood. That is, I doubt you'd see Ken getting his head ripped off. Even so, MK vs. SF2 would've been a nerdgasm of a game for those of us that grew up when those were the kings of the 16 bit era.
I dunno...I feel like this just should not happen. It's like when Iron Chefs make Salmon Ice Cream. Two great tastes that don't go that great together.
hank god it didnt, besides i would have fetched Akuma on all those poor saps in MK.
does"jab,jab,short,forward,fierce" ring a bell?
I bet it went something like this:
Boon: Hey, Capcom, why don't we take our two fighting franchises and combine them?
Capcom: Hmmm, sounds like a good idea, except there hasn't been a good installment of your franchise since MK2.
Boon: so? it still sells buttloads to all the noobs (heh)!
Capcom: mmm, I think we'll keep the integrity of our franchise. When's the next pro MK tournament?
Boon: ehhhhhh...sorry, I have to run and milk my franchise before people forget about it.
@September:
Reminds me of Dead Fantasy. I enjoyed the fight.
here's a new vid :)

This would have been cool, ten years ago when MK vs. SF should have came out. Back when both series were starting to loose touch with their customers.
With all those digs at Tekken, I was starting to think I was reading an Itagaki interview.
Hmmm last time SF didn't do so well when it did the digital characters. Street Fighter the movie game I'm looking at you. Wonder what graphical sytle would have been.
If they still have the Create a Fighter then it will still be possible to pump out streetfighter clones...and while we're at it, Jack Thompson too.
@zanzibarlegend: Actually its Jab, Jab, ->, Short, Fierce :)
@September:
Thank you! That was great to watch. Can't wait to show my friends.
I would want this, if Midway wasn't going to do most of the work.
Making my Vega Ken and Cammy slow, clunky, and heavy? gtfo
Mugen's filled the gap for me for several years--'til Vista killed it. :(
At least fighting games are sorta making a comeback now! <3
please God hear my prayer dont let midway shit on street fighter. please i beg you.
Wow, that's 2 exploding heads out of 3 posts... Kotaku's getting gory!
I really hope that they make a Mortal Kombat Vs. Street Fighter game one day. I've wanted to see that since I was 10 years old.
I don't think Capcom would have a problem with fatalities either. So you'd be able to do a Hyper Combo Finish, and then follow it up by ripping your opponent's spine out.
@Mokona: Thanks for noticing. We try.

Let's see what Kevin Spacey has to say about this quote...

Come on, you know every single one of Akuma's moves would be a fatality. He's just that badass.
MK vs SF or SF vs MK will be on my must-buy list
If that game ever did or does come out, my head will explode. That's cooler then Solid Snake and Duke Nukem mixed together.
Mortal Kombat vs. Street Fighter would only work IF the entire game used ONLY the Street Fighter engine.
It's taking the board game world by storm, it's Chesckers! One half of the board is ages 6-10, the other 12 to adult*. It's Insanity!
*May require skill.
