A laptop sentry gun, of course. Or, well, a lot of pipes and electrical tape, and scrap metal shaped into the notorious weapon. Reader Thomas Masheder and his pal regularly play Perfect Dark for N64 to this day. And when his pal turned 25, Thomas went off to the hardware store in search of parts to build his gun.
Thomas advises that his friend's sentry is guarding his kitchen. Thomas's trash bins (pictured) are protected by the one he made for himself. I wonder if the sentry is sensitive enough to detect roach or raccoon movement.
Good work, Thomas. We've got two more of his pictures after the jump.

Careful kids!
Making replica gun can get you shot for real ;)
How long before someone walking past that gate notices it and calls the police?
nice gun, awful location
Ah, Perfect Dark. I too still play it sometimes. I wish it would get put on Live Arcade.
@Northernsky: Reeeeeeelax,give human being more credit than that.I'd be more worried about some punk stealing it only to throw it away a few blocks later.
Doesn't look like a place where it's going to be noticed a lot.
@SlowDeath420:
Maybe I'm being presumptuous, but that looks like it's in the UK to me, where we get scared of anything. Looks like a back alley on an estate or row of houses, people do use them fairly regularly.
Gah... I shouldn't doubt my fellow countrymen!
ha i remeber those!
@SlowDeath420: sentry down!
The original Perfect Dark is, in my opinion, the greatest FPS ever made. So glad to see fellow fans paying tribute to the Goddess Jo.
@SlowDeath420:
Were you around for the Mario Coin Block incident? People thought they were bombs.
Yup, that's cheery lovely England. Where's it's always sunny and warm.
haha.
Also, sweet sentry, but it would be good if it wasn't so easily stolen.
An excellent looking gun. It must have taken a lot of time to make.
Now we must ask ourselves that all important question.
Will it blend?!
@Edmon: Better believe it will.
Man this brings back so many memories. playing perfect Dark with friends in my father's basement. We used to play with dumb bots and smart bots. It was fun.
get of my lawn u damn kids!
Oh how I miss you Perfect Dark....
@GwennBlackfeather: I have to agree with you there,bud. Goldeneye made the console FPS what it is, PD64 perfected it. The originality of the guns were just unmatched at the time. The secondary fire on each weapon just added to the brilliance
What the hell happened to Secondary Fire anyways?
@Schoolimangooli: Playing against 4 RevengeSims was hilarious.
@Edmon: God I love "Will it Blend." Especially the jaunty theme. +1
@CHU BOI:
You also have to love the co-op mode in Perfect Dark. It was a head of it's time I think.
@Edmon:
Hell yes. I noticed yesterday that the bar I work at has a BlendTec blender for making smoothies... I want to steal it for my own experiments...
the poor n64 could barely handle the game when it got intense.
but yeah we played the hell out of that game. love the villa.
@ryanrule: Ooh, the villa! I have distinct memories of gaining many kills in that level with the grenade launcher. Remembering vague images of me being on ground level, some sucker running across the bridge a couple of stories above me, and then surprising them with a package full of BOOM.
Fuck, I loved that grenade launcher. I got very good at judging angles and trajectories on that thing. Used it for many kills when my friends would camp and snipe. Good times.
Could anyone tell me if the sentry gun was cheap? I don't remember it being cheap; it blew up pretty easily, IIRC. But there's a part of me that says it was a cheap-ass weapon that we banned in-game. Might be another old FPS confusing me poor brain, though.
Not so many raccoons in the UK. Can't say I've ever even seen a roach either although my fiancee assures me they exist here as her mother works in health and safety.
Ugh.
Sweet turret though - wonder what the bin men will make of it!
@JustThisGuy:
It depends on the placement. I seem to recall one or two spots a friend of mine found where the thing was near unkillable.
How about a Golden Gun for us GoldenEye 007 obsessed?
Wow I loved Perfect Dark so much.
But everybody I knew was all "I play goldeneye".
Of course I tried to explain to them that it pretty much is goldeneye with more stuff, but they didn't want to play ...
@MakTheYak: The bin men will probably refuse to take it because the lifting of a object would violate some stupid union rule. That's if they're as awful as they are down here in the South West. Stupid new 'refuse collectors'
Any chance of a Portal turret? :D
@Klopfer123:
Lol, down here in Cornwall they won't take it if the lid isn't completely closed, or if it's too heavy...
So this begs the question (once again)...when do we get Perfect Dark DS?
I found that the best position for a laptop sentry gun was on any ceiling beside a door, especially in a narrow corridor. Sure, it's cheap, but a Phoenix levels it out.
Is the DS more powerful than the n64?
Could it handle perfect dark online?
(With analogue stick slot-2 cart of course;)
Oh PD64, my second love. *sniff*
But the wall and fence are blocking it. The enemy should be able to run past it easily. If anything, he should've thrown it higher on the wall
He better watch out for spies, they might try and sap his sentry.
Thats awesome! I love Perfect Dark :D
@Klopfer123: Haha I know exactly what you mean, have to be able to close the bin, once a fortnight collection now, five people in my house and we can have one bin a fortnight. And it does just seem to be the South West.
I want one of these.
*sigh* so very awesome, I really wish the Perfect Dark Source team would haul their asses a little faster and finish that great mod.
A spy could easily sap that sentry!!
where is the engineer.. and his dispenser??!!
Yay!!! my laptop gun made it on :)
It is as some commenters pointed out in Great Britain, the sunny North West no less. And is now used as a sexy hat stand in my friend Carrington's house.
Perfect Dark rocks, capture the hill on temple is just superb. But why oh why can't they put decent bots in modern games?
I thought this was the Laptop Gun for a second.... wait, is it? I'm confused by it.. meh, did anyone use that gun much in game?
SPY SAPPIN MY SENTRY!
Oh the bin men would take it up in fife but 3 weeks later you would get a bill for an "on street collection". Can't believe we can tell thats the uk from those pics though, it's strange I can't tell why I just know.
The guns do look cool though.
@ma5h: The North West of Great Britain, the United Kingdom, or England? They're all different, you know.
Of course they're all bloody damp, so maybe it doesn't matter.
Any chance they post a FAQ on how to make it? I want one of these things from Perfect Dark.....Zero.
Laptop guns ftw! And if anybody here mentions PD ZERO (looks up), well, I wish I could reach through your monitor and put splinters under your fingernails.
Laptop gun... what a great choice of a weapon to create! Next they should make a chainsaw, gravity gun or BFG!
@Evil Tortie's Mom: Lol, yeah I should have thought of that, NW England, the sunny town of lancaster no less, where it only rains 340 days of the year.
@kylo4: No need for a FAQ kylo4, it's quite literally a crosspiece at the bottom made from two bits of square guttering with a hole cut so they slot together. Followed by a round tube slotted in the top set into a load of plastecine. And finally a nutella jar lid, with a load of metal tubes metal-puttied into place with a squadge more plastecine and a spacer made from the original plastic tube. Then spray paint, slot together and bob's your uncle with a nice bit of strong wire pushed through to support the barrel casing on the vertical pipe. Only tookl about 5 hours including going to the shops to buy the stuff, beats coronation street any day.
man was so mad at perfect dark on the 360. goldeneye and perfect dark the reasons why my n64 is still being used (and smashbros,mariokart, ect ect)
@xcalibro: Mariokart64, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark and WCW vs NWO: Revenge. Why cant they make games like this anymore, everything seems so cynical and limp wristed nowadays. Soul Caliber was probably the last great sit down with your mates and compete game.
