Bethesda has gone ahead and officially confirmed the Collector's Edition of Fallout 3 that leaked last week. But they added a good-news-cherry-on-top to fans. The Collector's Edition will be available for PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, and it will be available worldwide without retailer restrictions. While Bethesda still hasn't announced a price, GameStop reckons it'll run you $80 on the consoles and $70 on PCs. Will GamStop be right? Will the Dynamic Duo escape the treacherous tank filled with half-opened, M-rated games? Tune-in soon to find out! Same Kotaku time. Same Kotaku channel.

Fantastic. I'm so getting one.
Bethesda forming up the front line against GameStop exclusives.
*high pitched voice*
MY HERO!!!
I may get one.
Looks like I'm heading to my local game store on Monday for a reservation.
I want that lunchbox, bad
Fallout 3 has been long overdue, but I'm glad it is Bethesda helming this project; they respect the lore, tone (maturity), and humor of the original games (FO 1 & 2 - tactics and that P.O.S. PS2 game doesn't count)... Dogmeat is back, perks, vault and pip boy... HUZZAH!
PC version here I come... because as PC Oblivion players know, the mods we've gotten for it, blow away the consoles... Can you fight on yer horse or hack of limbs? I can in my PC version... can't wait for someone to make a cybernetic dog meat if I don't do it myself.
GO BETHSOFT GO!
I think I'm getting two! No wait! Three!!!!
Fallout 3 release date will be the new Christmas!
You should download the new 1up yours podcast with N'Gai talking about playing Fallout 3..It's spoiler filled,but makes me wanna get it.
I'm so getting a bobblehead..
So do we get GURPS this time?
Goody, I can get the PC version and still get all the swag. Fallout deserves to be on the PC.
@Daigoji Gai: The Oblivion modding community was pretty much what I required to make Oblivion playable. Then I slapped in a few more so I could get a bunch of JRPG rejects running around Tamriel, as God intended. If God was a Genki Girl.
I'll get the Collector's Edition if it's $70 (PS3), otherwise it's regular for me. I think $10 more is enough for Collector Editions, unless it has something amazing.
I mean, Bioshock had an awesome Big Daddy Figure that wasn't exactly "small", and they still only charged $10 more than normal.
I don't know who that small figure is modelled on. Is this an American cartoon or something?
I would pay $80 for it.
@duckmouth: It's Vault Boy!
I really... REALLY hope they aren't going to charge $20 for a cheap lunchbox and bobble head. If so I'm going to just get the PC version.
@ DanteODiabo: Eh, I'd prefer someone stand up to charging $20 more for all collectors editions then to exclusivity.
I'm not normally one for spec. eds -- yet I'm still tempted.
I may need to pull out my Fallout 1 + 2 CD set to re-live the first two titles. I remember that I played some Fallout 2 back in 2004, and the rich 2D environment held up remarkably well, kind of like Diablo.
I am definitely preordering the PC collector's edition off of Amazon.
By the way, you forgot the e in GameStop.
@ludwigk: Hopefully you'll have a better experience than I did. Full of nostalgia, I ordered Fallout 2 a few months back but quickly got tired of being shot through brick walls by enemies standing on the opposite end of the screen. Missing targets at point blank range with a machine pistol got old, too. They're still great games, but I'm less tolerant now of the series' quirks.
whens the release date
Can anyone who has played oblivion on console and PC comment on the strengths and weaknesses of the two. I'm definitely going to get Fallout 3 but its the old question, console or PC?
@jobble:
PC:
Strength - install mods to make the experience better (I'm looking at you, inventory mod)
Weakness - I had to buy a new computer in order to get it to run
Console:
Strength - ability to play on a large TV on my sofa in the living room
Weakness - reduced number of bindable "keys"
@PissedPS3Fan: Me personally, I'll pick it up for the PS3, as I don't really play "computer" games anymore.
@PissedPS3Fan: I would like to play it on my computer... lately I haven't been able to take the time and enjoy PC games. For some reason I can always find a few minutes to get some console gaming in :(
I can't let fallout 3 sit on my desk because I'm to lazy to go on my PC. I'm going to have to rent Oblivion so I can make a decision about this kind of gameplay on a console.
I also want the lunch box. It seems like something that I may actually use. Even though I will be instantly branded as "Dork!" at work.
It's okay, I make more than they do.
@Daigoji Gai: 4046x4046 at 1440x1050 with all the pretty things turned one, graphic fixes, better shaders, and a slew of custom content and game rebalances sure do beat out of the box oblivion for any system.
Rats. This is an issue to me, I want a collectors edition but I already have a pipboy bobble head. Was a runner up in the design a perk competition Bethesda had and that was in the pack they sent me. Hmm, but figure I'l break and buy one anyway just for the lunch box.
Off topic but did anyone ever find out what was happening with the perk competition? They never got back to me about if all the winners were going to be in the game or just the one. Kinda like the idea I contributed:) Would make my day if it featured. Well year more likely
Heh GamStop. Fella can buy gams there that go from here to Cincinnati. I'm talkin long, see? Like a long hot summer night in the lonely city. Those kinda gams.
i still can't work out why stuff is more expensive on the consoles than it is on pc. shouldn't the lower amount of piracy on consoles (nil on ps3) make them cheaper?
we are always told that piracy = higher prices. the ps3 should be the cheapest of the lot if the game companies really believe what they claim.
@shemmy: Its the "console tax." On consoles the developer has to pay licensing fees to the console maker (Sony, Microsoft, or Nintendo). The PC on the other hand being an open platform has no extra licensing fees for the developers.
@shemmy:
First let me say that I really dig your avatar/picture. I'm a huge Satyricon fan.
The real reason games for the 360 and PS3 cost more than the pc is simple economics: supply & demand. Console owners are willing to pay $59.99 for a new release. They will pay more for the LE and CE versions. The publishers know they can get away with it so they will continue to do so as long as consumers pony up the cash. The PR bullshit about piracy is not the reason. Look at last months sales for software: $945 million. That is almost a billion dollars in software sales alone, not consoles. And it is around a 60% increase from March of last year. Just wait until this upcoming holiday season and you will see just how big the industry is becoming.
@jobble
My PC: 3Ghz P4, 1GB ram, nVidea 7800GS
Oblivion still looks better and runs smoother on my Xbox360.
I can put everything on max settings and the highest resolution on the PC, of course, but then it chugs along at about 15fps, and honestly doesn't look that much better than on the 360.
The main non-graphical benefit, for me, is the controller. The 360 controller is a lot more comfortable than using a mouse and keyboard, and since you're spending dozens (if not hundreds) of hours running around the game's world, you're gonna appreciate being able to veg out on the couch instead of cramped over a desk.
I love paying $10 less for PC games ... that's party of why I buy most multiplatform games for my PC instead of my 360.
@Strangelove:
part of why, not party. moron.
@gaijira: *pulls bottle of hooch out of desk drawer, offers gaijira a swig*
Will the PS3 version feature keyboard and mouse support?
I love the lunch box than anything else...
For me
Lunchbox > The Game. ;D

[www.uesp.net] (More texture packs here)
If you have both copies on PC and X360, just install the texture packs and you'll be amazed by the level of graphical improvement over the original and 360. I'm not even kidding here. You can play with a much lower resolution and a few setting turned down if necessary, but with quality texture packs, the difference is unbelievable.
