Hey, PR types: CGI trailers are misleading. Screens can be, too. Fact sheets are boring, community Q&As never really tell us anything and for God's sake, no more developer diaries, OK? If you want to get reader's attention, do what Vivendi just did to start drumming up attention for their Ghostbusters game, and give the people they want. They want to see some cool shit. Like this fully-restored Ectomobile, which made an appearance at a Minnesota Best Buy solely to promote the new Ghostbusters game. Well, that and fulfil the fantasies of hundreds of grown men, all of whom wish they could have stepped right in, got down to the point and cleaned up the town. Oh yeah.

Who you gonna call?!
Ghostbusters!
@Snake726: God we're awesome, high five! :)
That is about as awesome as the Mystery Machine replica that drives around Oahu sometimes.
They used one at the Play.com live event in London earlier this year and had an inflatable marsh mellow man. I think this is one of my most eagerly anticipated games of the year for me.
Now that is bloody awesome!
@RogueSquid: I hear that.
*fist pound*
*tries to imitate siren sound*
RIIIEEEERRR RIIIIEEERRR etc etc
@Witzbold:
You know, I don't see it anymore. I used to see it a lot a few years back but as of late it just hasn't appeared for me.
Does my heart good to see the Ectomobile still alive after all these years... *wipes tear*
@N1tch: Yep, I saw it there. Looked cool but I ignored it. Too bad the event as a whole was major suckage.
My friend sent me a picture on my phone of him in front of this(He works at Best buy corp) I was wondering where that came from.
Now that's what i'm talkin' bout!
It's the sorta car, if you owned, you would NOT keep in the garage as some kinda NRFB mint classic.
You know, I know, we all know.... midnight every night, and at just random moments during the day, you'd run out into the driveway, screaming along to the theme music, start her up, flick the sirens on and BAM you're outta there to save the world from ghouls and ghosties.
Reckon it would get you outta a few speed tickets too... "Officer it's a 115, a ghoul has exposed itself to grannie down on 5th, you gotta let us go!" - "a 115?! OMG let's go go go"
GHOSTBUSTERS!
And that's not a replica, that's the actual car from the first Ghostbusters movie. It was just fully restored by Sony. The car from the second movie is still in the shop being restored as we speak.
Here's a post with more pictures of the car:

oh, luke. you've been reading my blog again.
That Is Awesome
@Ryu Kazama: Yeh it was disapointing. It could have been so much better. Shame they didn't have rock band copies on display. I couldn't be bothered to wait 45 minutes and or find some other random strangers to be in a 'band' with me.
Here's a link to the car being restored (sorry it wasn't in my first post, but I couldn't find it right away).

@Channing: O noez. D:
I wonder if the guy sold it. I remember he was a surfer though, since the inside of the van had padded surf racks.
@mburkit: Oh nice! Thanks for the link!
Help theres something strange in my neighbourhood
Jesus...this is probably the coolest thing Ive ever seen. I would kill to drive the Ecto-1
Gah!! I live in Minnesota!! Why was I not informed of this?!?!
Best Buy Corporate has now hoarded the Ecto-1 and a free BNL performance from me. I don't work for BB, but still, they couldn't have sent out invites?? (shakes fist at sky)
Really, this is HOW you promote a game. Not freak out a certain writer before a week or two before the actual promotion.

@mburkit: yeah, i second the previous thanks, nice link!
I want my first car to look just like that. Where can I buy it?!
:( it's not fair. I wan't to see it too!
Ecto-1! Do WANT!
Please tell me it has that bitchin' siren intact. Nothing would be cooler than to hear that siren, and then turn around and see the ECTO-1 pull up. Unless of course it was being chased by Gozer the Gozerian.
@ TitillatedOcelot
The Siren never worked for the movies actually. It was dubbed over in post production. I know some fans who own replicas of the car have custom sirens for that famous sound, but I don't know if they did that for this restoration of the original car.
So, when does this game come out again? They seem to have a lot of hype coming out for it as of late.
"...stepped right in, got down to the point and cleaned up the town. Oh yeah."
Plunkett, you are my hero.
@mburkit: Well, that's unfortunate. I think if they modified it slightly to include the siren, it might no longer be strictly authentic, but I'd be willing to overlook it.
i loved me some ghostbusters, but Ectomobile? I honestly can't remember it ever being called that. Have i lost my mind? I am sure it was always called "Ecto-1". Can anyone help me out here?
@GMC:
No, you're right, it was Ecto-1. But Ectomobile is fun too.
/it's like the Batmobile
//only with more ectoplasm
I've seen that Ectomobile! I live in Minnesota, and I was driving down highway 10 in Elk River. I had to do a triple take when I saw it going down the road. This was about a year ago. Pretty cool to see it again, and I never thought I would on here of all places.
hmmm... That isn' a Best Buy store... that looks like the HQ.
@GMC: It's the Ectomobile and Ecto-1 is the license plate so hence it's much easier to call it Ecto-1. :D Help?
This is fantastic. I'd be all over it in a minute.
@Hiro0015:
I'm pretty sure that is the headquarters. It has the upwards slanting window filled structure.
That is a beautiful machine. Oh why can't there be more cool PR items like that around? Seriously, thats just sweet.
<3
@LionheartAce: can you tell me where in the movies it is referred to as the ectomobile? PapaBear434 has steeled my resolve and i'm sure that it was never called that. Correct me if i'm wrong - ghostbusters facts need to be made clear to ease the passage to sleep at nights. This is like finding out your mum has a different first name than the one you thought she had all these years.
I so love the sound of those sirens.. I will never forget that sound.. And the sound of Slimer screaming: Janine, Janine!! Or the exploding marshmallow man... good old memories..
wasnt the car called Ecto-1 ?
Dammit, I knew the decision to move away from home in MN would bite me in the ass.
I'm pissed off beyond the capacity for rational thought.
The child inside of me is very, very happy.
I always imagined when I was a kid that if their car ever got into an accident it would blow up and take out a city block or two.
I remember before the first movie came out the Ectomobile was driven around the streets of Manhattan.
Fort Collins, Colorado has a group of people who have restored cars to look like the Ectomobile and also the Jurassic Park jeep. I know there's a Mystery Machine van driving around somewhere as well. Pretty damn sweet.
@Hubert Humphrey Methadone: You show your love of the Twins by using TC THE BEAR as your profile pic?? I loves me my Twins, but I HATES TC!!! Why not throw a picture of Livan in there? Same general size and shape, but slightly less cartoonish.
Minnesota? What in the fuck is out in Minnesota that warrants them to recieve something so cool? How about, oh, SAN FRANCISCO? You know, the heart of the American game development community AND game journalism community? Oh, no, don't worry about it, Vivendi. It makes much more sense to show off your awesome Ectomobile to west bum-fuck Minnesota than somewhere that makes sense!
We'll just be fine here in SF, sifting through the veritable stew of mediocrity that we deal with on a daily basis. Don't worry about us!
I saw this car driving down the street just 3 days ago. Pretty good stuff.
Before that, I saw it on Halloween '07 in downtown Minneapolis, except their were 4 guys getting out of it and gearing up with their Ghostbuster backpacks and such. I thought it was just a very detailed and extreme halloween costume at that point (and maybe it was).
Point being, I think this was originally created not for the purpose of advertising, but some guys idea of fun. Then he saw a way to make some cash on the side and went for it.
Also, Minneapolis is awesome and under appreciated for what we have here, so it's always great when we get some sort of publicity.
