It is a sad day when I have to find out about a new Spider-Man game from a blurry photo of a GameStop sales circular. Kotokuite ReidP snapped this shot of the in-store ad for the "just announced" game, complete with Bioshock-ish link to a not-yet-active website where you can vote for which gift you receive for preordering the game. I'd expect official word from Activision any moment now on how they are going to maintain the Spider-Man license's downward spiral. In the meantime, I'd go for t-shirt. Figurines get lost, posters tear, but t-shirts are forever, or at least until the pits rot out.

Spellchecked version did not save. Resaved. Thank you for your patience. :)
Please don't suck. I still love Spider-Man 2.
"Web of Shadows"? Let's hope that emo Spidey from the latest movie doesn't make a return.
Web of Shadows? Is this a Tom Clancy Spider-Man game?
"...at least until the pits rot out."
That comment literally put me off my lunch.
Thanks man.
Hooray!
More Spiderman :D
I hope its JUST as awesome as all the other games. ...
Ah no. Another awful Spiderman game. It peaked at Spiderman 2 (the movie version) and even then the swinging was the only good part. This seize control thing can mean one of two things. Either Spidey is fighting the Venom suit, or it'll be another territory control game. Gonna be naff either way I reckons.
Ha!, you guys got the good end.
I thought the PC game of the first spiderman was the same as you consolers; a la sandbox spiderman.
We fucking got BAITED, it was a 12-step program for toddlers.
I hope this is better than Spider-Man 2. Spider-Man is one of my favorite comic characters, and I hope they do him proper.
They need to make another game based on the Ultimate storyline. I enjoyed the first one, but it didn't do the comic justice.
@Fyren: LOL I feel your pain man cause I bought it too thinking "Oh man I can't WAIT to see what mods are made from this" needless to say I got jerked.
Web of Shadows...Sounds like its gonna be some corney flashback based game that is probably gonna have him pondering over past fights and scenerious, but thats just my guess.
I'd like to see them make proper use of Peter Parker, and not just make the whole thing about beating the shit out of stuff as Spider-man. Every comic series has focused on the fact that he does this awesome stuff as a superhero, but it just royally messes with his private life.
It should be a 2D sidescroller on XBLA with HD graphics, all hand drawn.
@Fyren: If I remember correctly, Spider-Man on the consoles and PC = the same awful game.
Spider-Man 2 wasn't on the PC, but Spider-Man 3? There's your toddler program.
@Superstar90 UNLEASHED: How about, every game should be like that ;)
Hell, I've started a similar thing with an update of the NES version of Blaster Master (nothing serious, just a fun project)
The PS1 and Genesis Spidermans (Spidermen?) were the best.
I still have the red cartridge Maximum Carnage.
i love spider-man, he's easily my favorite super hero on the marvel side. i hope this game doesn't completely blow :/
@Poisonous Taoist: No you don't understand. It was two completely different games but 99% of the box art is the same.
Better than my title, Spider-man: Pile of Crap.
@Fyren: While you're right, not mentioning which game you're talking about didn't help. Let's clarify all of this, once and for all...
Spider-Man (aka the original movie title) was identical across all platforms.
Spider-Man 2 had two completely different games - the (good) version that we saw on the consoles, and the (lousy) PC version, which was aimed at a much younger audience.
Spider-Man 3 also had two completely different games. The PC version was identical to the PS3 and 360 versions, but the Wii and PS2 ports were different games.
Surely this will be better than anything Akklaim did with ANY Marvel character game.
Well on the plus side, they don't have to get this game finished in time for a film's release so they don't have the pressure to deliver a complete game in a short amount of time. On the other hand, IIRC Friend or Foe wasn't being rushed for a film release and it was complete shit anyway, so it's probably Activision looking to make some annual money out of the Spidey cash cow. Unless the demo is good I'll be staying well clear.
@Bernard McGraw: Pfft, emo Spidey is nothing. I just don't want Superfly Spidey.
ugh, the scars from Friend or Foe still haven't healed.
Hopefully this game won't totally blow like Spider-Man 3 did.
Spiderman was really shaping up to be an interesting franchise from the great (for its time) PS1 version. The first movie game was a step backwards, but Spiderman 2 probably is one of the most ambitious and effective licenced games in quite some time. Shame it all went belly up from there (Spiderman 3 got the speed and acrobatics down, but then ruined it all with a horrible, dull combat system).
Think the old games have shown that it is quite possible to make a cool Spiderman game. It is a shame that Activision are just shovelling them out now though - makes the odds of a decent version slimmer.
More spiderman shovelware? Already?
Didn't "Friend or Foe" just come out like six months ago?
I love the 1st movie game for the ps2, for some reason never tried the 2nd, the 3rd suck, but the web swinging parts were great and really funny, if they could mix the good things of the 1st with the web swinging parts of the 2nd and 3rd it would be an awesome game!
At least the new show on Kids WB is really good. It feels childish to wake up for a Saturday morning cartoon again, but hey, a good show is a good show.
Am I the only one that thought of Spider-Man: Web of Fire for the 32x?
@timnasium: Nope. I thought the same thing too. I was certain the art was reused from the old 32X game. Especially Spidey's eyes.
Activision Confirms the game already. If you want to see the Teaser Trailer Click here

Any one else going to New York Comic-Con?
is the website for this game
@daschupa: So true.
"It is a sad day when I have to find out about a new Spider-Man game from a blurry photo of a GameStop sales circular."
...or you could go ahead and read and watch the teaser trailer on another gaming site...
@Lstormy10: But I didn't. I learned about the game from the GameStop ad.
Did you have some sort of point, Dr. ellipses?
I want the shirt, but I don't want the game.
What to do, what to do...
Just saw the trailer on Yahoo before coming here.
I seriously can't wait for this to come out. It seems more like if it's going to be like the first Spidey game on the PS1. You know, where it's based off the comic books but has it's own original story. (At least I think it was an original story)
Game looks great though. Even if they're going for the gimmicky (IMO) "Your actions and choices affect the world around you" thing.
so, what's up? Yahoo got a ton of info before you guys!
slipping, slipping!
@Hoboman725: Well, on the official site it links off to Yahoo Games for the trailer. So I'm guessing they exclusively revealed it to them first for some reason.
Gizmodo Announce Spider-pig: Mess of a Desktop
Loved the original PS Spider-man. Loved Spider-Man 2 (movie version). Great swinging mechanics, loved the Black Cat storyline, hated the mysterio missions. Spider-Man 3 basically f*cked up everything that was good about 2. They added the overused quick-time button press gimmick shit and dubbed it "cineractives" like they developed and licensed the damn thing themselves (if that doesn't spell C-R-A-P-I-S-C-O-M-I-N-G I don't know what does.) And I pre-ordered it, by the way, enslaved by the hype, hoping for, at the very least, some light-hearted fun swinging around the city. Which I got, to an extent, but the constant implementation of QTE, the pathetic storyline, unnecessary gameplay tweaks, bucket o' half-assed sidequests padding, lame voice acting and subpar graphics (the symbiote looks like... well, you see where I'm going with this) really wrecked the game. If I'm not mistaken, Treyarch was also contracted to do the next James Bond game. What prompts people to hire this studio? A lobotomy? Low profit percentages? A "We'll have it shipped before the movie opens" guarantee? A life debt to Activision? How about they actually take the time to complete a game before shipping the next one? It would be a nice change of pace.
So yeah, I'm excited for this next one.
@moose_pants:
Yeah, you're right... and this time, they need to do it RIGHT!!!
