Earlier this week, according to Bloomberg, Enterbrain president Hirokazu Hamamura predicted a new DS would be unveiled at E3. You'd think he'd be the kind of guy - what with his company publishing Famitsu and all - to get that sort of thing right. But Nintendo quickly came out and, rather than say "no comment", went so far as to say "no dice". Now, Enterbrain themselves have felt the need to issue a statement, denying that Hamamura predicted any such thing.
He did not...make a comment about the possibility of an announcement by Nintendo concerning a new model or successor to the Nintendo DS due to its current scarce product availability caused by its worldwide popularity.Maybe they're right, maybe Bloomberg are right, but either way, who am I to stand in the way of a good old-fashioned corporate back-tracking expedition? Full statement's after the jump if you're interested.

The cat chases the mouse back into its hole.
So what? Pfft big deal. If he's right, then Nintendo are being silly, if he's not then Bloomberg is. Big fucking deal wopdedoo
well, a new DS with DQ9 would sell like Monster Hunter and Psp. then again, DQ9 could do that by itself. I wouldn't mind seeing a new DS though maybe with a SD card slot and a usb port.
@Jagzthebest: chill out dude
i really think the DS lite is perfect as it is d=
now if nintendo really went for that i hope it's at least a DS2 or the rumored new gameboy .-.
Ah there's nothing like a good old he said she said thing.
The DS is fine for now but, Nintendo have something up their collective sleeves
@GingerMohawk: ERIC...IS...BANANAMAN!
@Luke Plunkett: I've always wonderd if Eric isn't going to choke on that banana one of these times.
@Luke Plunkett: Bananaman scared the crap out of me....that was a pretty serious show....
He did not say Nintendo was going to release a re-design of the DS. Instead he said the DS is great and is hard to find because it is soooo great. Someone merely misheard him. {head asplodes}
Awfully detailed thing to -not- say.
@excel_excel: ...so serious they had The Goodies doing all the voice acting?
I can't wait to see how this pans out come E3.
You know, there's been a lot of commotion around this thing Hamamura supposedly talked about... but did anyone bother to check out Famitsu website to read the report on the speech he gave and not just the Bloomberg report?
There's nothing about a DS redesign there. Nothing. He only talks about market growth and whatnot. No predictions at all. Am I missing something here?
It's not like everyone has to know japanese, but I know there are a lot of people out there that do understand the language. What gives?
I would like a DS with WPA protection. I don't want to switch my entire home network to WEP and I don't want to buy a second wireless router just so my DS can access the internet. That's the only thing I have against the DS; otherwise, I love it.
@kagai:
Good point. I was gonna chime in to say that the DS Lite is perfect as is, but I forgot about the lame WEP thing!
@kagai:
Seconded. It really sucks that there's no WPA support.
@kagai: great point. My 360, PS3, PSP, Wii and PC are all great under WPA. DS is the only lamer bastard hardware that can't accept it, thus...is no longer online. Cmon Nintendo, get with the times
@Striderhayasa - Phillyyakk on PSN and Live.: WEP WAS the times.
@thejakeman: probably disagrees with you: LOL...good point. True that...
