Not a fan of these multimedia marketing tie-ins (this is an animated version of the comic, not the animated "feature"), for Dead Space or any other game. Back in the day, a licensed property got itself a comic book series or a cartoon because the fans wanted it, and the property deserved it. Now? Why am I supposed to care about the back-story of a game I haven't even played yet? Especially when it's as boring as this?

"Animated Comic"
So many contradictions that it just shouldn't be said.
Im not a fan of my comics being read to me. Just like im not a fan of books on tape, unless narrated by james earl jones of christopher walken.
And this video was biffering far to much for me so i'll just assume it was awsome so i can continue being excited about Dead Space
I really want to see this, as Dead Space is my 2nd most anticipated game of the year, but good god IGN get your buffering speed up.
This is just like one of those reading rainbow where they make a movie outta pictures of a book haha awesome.
These tie-ins are god awful. Did the Dark Sector comic make the story reasonable as well?
First a animated movie and now this? I starting to not care much about this game. I only care about one thing.... GAMEPLAY, that is something that has not been shown yet. EA strikes again.
Wow, this is the most retarded piece of shit I almost saw. Was it supposed to be hilarious? Cause it WAS!!!!
Glad to know I'm not the only one who has buffering problems with IGN videos.
Jeez you people, relax. It's not looking to get nominated for an award. I'ts just MKT at work, and I preffer this than a special Mountain Dew beverage that tastes like rat piss. The production values could have been better, but at least they did it.
The story is starting to intrigue me. I hope EA funds more OIP orojects such as this one.
@MasterOfPastures: Hey! Some people liked that rat piss, like me.
Seriously, I'm a huge fan of cross marketing and that it can be rewarding, in a way, to consumers who embrace them. i.e. viral marketing for The Dark Knight.
Neither am I a fan of books on tape but no one is saying to love the animated comic version. These versions allow for a little more creativity and depth like MGS digital graphic novel. And plus, this definitely got me interested.
Seems like I'm the only one that actually found the short clip somewhat amusing.
This would be awesome but let's comics was two years ago for me so count me out. I had to make a decision last year which was comics or video games and I chose video games because comics are stale.
@MasterOfPastures: Rat piss? I had no idea there was a Mountain Dew Rat Piss out. May have to look into that.
That's not a marker! It's a space station!
Good thing comics can't talk to you, or it would have been a lot worse. With voice acting like that, who needs enemies? Or however that goes...
"Something daayaamn strange is goin on around here."
Haha, the Commander is Captain Needer
Goodness, such foul mouths.
If they reveal everything in this comic prequel, what will be left for the game itself? I had assumed the gameplay would consist of
1. Kill some shit
2. Get startled Silent Hill style
3. Look for clues to find out what happened
4. Use acquired information to find a way out
so I'm just saying, aren't they blowing their load a little too early here?
@Bernard McGraw: Yeah the swearing sounded really forced and out of place too which took from the experience and just distracted me. This video didnt raise my interest in the game. But i'll keep an eye on it, who knows, it might be a gem.
@Verge: At least it makes them cool though.
Enjoyable, but animated? Under what criteria?
Also, what I find funny is how we're moving from the evil money grubbing corporation inflicting the biological terror on the world to the evil religious sect inflicting the biological terror on the world. Never say that games don't change to reflect the fears of the day.
I don't much care if it is an "Animated Comic".
I enjoyed it and would watch more if it were available.
Not bad at all.
Somebody wasn't there when animated comics were all the rage on PC (over here) and PC Engine (over there) eh :D
Hey... could this be whats left of System Shock 3 after Levine left EA?
No graphical or technological content, but the whole game sounds like the camouflaged concepts for SS3!
Anyway, it looks great.
Luke you speak the truth. If something is so good fans can't get enough the universe it's one thing but an released EA game..I'll pass.
Animated comic? Is that like an audio drama with an art book bundled?
I thought this was kinda cool. It has me interested enough to anticipate the game, and I don't even like Survival Horror games.
Why so bitter about a bit of novel marketing material? Jesus christ.
so Scientology exists in the future?
@hanzonaut: i agree the hate runs real HOT on here today
What happened to journalistic integrity Luke? Looks cool to me.... part cheesy, part 'Aliens' rip-off all sci-fi.
Reminds me of the story videos we used to watch in grade school where a narrator read while some mediocre artist did a few chalk scenes throughout the story.
I came, and then I laughed.
And when I say I came, I mean I threw up.
And when I say I laughed, I mean I didn't.
It wasn't too bad. Sure the production values & voice acting are a little ... ehhh. I'm intrigued about the story tho. Some religious nutjobs wake up some alien race, sounds probable to me. I'm interested in seeing where the next goes for sure.
Oh and I think animated comics can be fun, like the MGS one for instance.
It's unwatchable because IGN's Video player sucks major ass and all it does is buffer for 42 minutes.
You know who the 'lay-priest' is waiting for to arrive on the planet to see the Marker?
Tom Cruise.
@Byakko: If they had the guts to make the character look/sound like that, it would be great.
Are you saying we actually wanted the Super Mario Brothers Super Show?
I thought it was alright. Voice acting was meh. The only thing that kept me watching was the artwork. Anybody know who the artist was?
Best part was when the guy slapped the sandwich out of the girl's hands. LOL
Well, that wasn't an animated equivalent of Citizen Kane with zombies.
EA most really be the evilest bastards in the whole of christendom for not releasing oscar winning material all in the name of marketing.
*sigh*
I'm no fan of a of of EA's policies, but the unfounded hate for anything that they publish does get tiring.
This looks very unappealing to me.
This actually took away more of what little interest I had in this game.
I'm not a comic book person, but even the style of drawing doesn't seem very fitting.
Not to say that someone out there isn't going to love this, but as a person who loves horror games, I'm not even compelled to rent based on this spot, and I even payed and enjoyed the Suffering
The voice acting wasn't that bad though...
did anyone else think Crysis on mars when they saw the big thingy?
