CoD4 PS3 DLC DAT(ed)

cod4ps3.jpg Infinity Ward have sorted the PS3 version of Call of Duty 4's downloadable content out, and have announced a pair of release dates for the new maps. North Americans can expect them next Thursday, April 24, while it'll be turning up in Europe a little later, on May 1. PC owners...still nothing, I'm afraid. Maintain your vigils.

  • For the first ever time on this site a comment near the top! Anyway this looks cool will be getting!

  • After GTA IV is released? not going to effect the number of people getting it at all is it?

  • umm..any info on pricing?

  • well its a whole 5 days before GTA4 comes out..so who knows. as for me...ehh, nah im gonna pass on it. If this were last month however, I'd be all over it with a side of juice. But I figure GT5:P and the MGO beta will suffice and then some until GTA comes out.

  • @killswitchprojct: Most likely $10 USD :P

  • I can't beleive this Bullshit. 360 owners across the world all got the CoD4 maps at the same time. Now those Sony bastards are delaying downloadable content for Europe.

  • I agree, if this came out earlier, I would have had no reservations buying it. GTA4 being so soon after makes this very unexciting.

However, if I can buy the maps and put it on my sister's and my PS3, I'll pay $5 for them (my sis the other $5). Can anyone tell me whether or not you can do that? I know I downloaded Everyday Shooter & Calling All Cars on both, but I'm not sure how it'd work with DLC maps. Thanks if you know the answer.

  • Shot themselves in the foot with that one. Almost everyone will be on GTA4 by the time the maps are released in Europe. America got away with it though. Oh, by the way, the European MGSOnline Beta installer is up for grabs on the PS Store. Game servers don't go online till this Monday though.

  • Enjoy guys, the maps are great, although China Town can get very annoying!

  • @Grave of the Fireflies: It wasn't sony that delayed them, they said they had "problems" with the ps3 version...

They may be the same "problems" Harmonix are having shipping Rocks Band ps3, ps2 etc for Europe 3 months later than 360.

Instead of buying dev studios I think MS have decided to just buy favoritism on multi-format releases.

  • /annoyed at later release date for Europe but used to being treated like that by cruel ex. Decides to give it a pass due to reason mentioned above by everyone else ie. GTA4.

  • I'll still be getting them. Between the new maps, MGS beta and GTA I might have to take some time off of work though.

  • I really like CoD, but like many others on here, the MGO beta will take up my time for the next couple of weeks, and then its GTA4. Bad timing on IW's part, particularly not having the PS3 version release at the same time as the 360 one.

  • when does the GOTY edition for PS3 release and does it play with the older version?

  • Nice use of TLRs.

  • Wait GTA IV's coming out!!...COD4 maps?? wha?

  • Before this next get console bullshit this stuff used to be free. Seems like we're walking backwards in terms of progression and openness.

  • @MoeB: But forwards in terms of making money (or making me spend money).
MGO beta, GT5P and GTA... I still have room for my hourly CoD4 PS3 romp. Will buy your maps sir although I am against it. As a PC gamer, I feel stupid getting raped for 4 maps. I mean only 4? I used to download tons of maps for free. I'd pay 10 bucks for like 20 maps but 4?? They are lucky CoD4 is such a damned good game. Bastids taking my money (god I love CoD4 and I hate how they know that)

  • Ya know, they can keep them. Too little, too late is the cliché here.

    [whaaambulance][rant ahead]

If it weren't for the fact I was playing lastnight (started out bad but rocked Headquarters with 5 matchs on top slot) and this guy (I'll remember his name if I see it) was dictating orders to me like some drill sergeant. Here I am, pickin off the other side (no, sniping with an iron sight isn't sniping in my book) to protect my comrades, and this ahole is ranting about how I should be taking the headquarters...on and on. Nothing like playing on a game with a little hitler.

    [rant off]
Don't get me wrong but isn't playing a game online supposed to be about having a good time and not "hatin the player"? You want anal-play, go join a ladder or clan and go clan-clan matches, right?

Got my GTA4 on order. So CoD4 will be retired...

@Jagzthebest: And the last time, too.

  • Its pretty obvious they're still trying to work out how they might charge PC gamers for the maps.

Here's a tip Activision... you CAN'T, so dont waste our time trying

  • @mx5geek: Yep, it's pretty much impossible. Even if they try, it's going to be like...1 person buys the maps, converts them into user maps, and everyone will play with those instead.

It's impossible for them to get any money from the PC crowd for this.

  • This sucks. I wanted to play those maps this weekend... Now I won't be able to play for a month.

  • Can the PS3 croud get screwed a little bit more? Seriously, as an owner I find myself week after week getting more pissed at Sony. We get games months after xb360, only like 3 exclusives, and 1 month late patches/map packs. Any chance we can get something?

  • US & EU CoD4 (GOTY) PS3 DLC DAT(ed) Q2

  • They should have releases simultaneously with the 360 version. I'm going to be too busy with MGO and my finals.

  • ... This makes absolutely no sense to me. Why aren't we PC gamers that are gaming on THE FPS SYSTEM not getting it until later? Sure, there are more people that play the lol-console versions but Infinity Ward started making PC games. :(

  • Can't wait. I know it's late, maybe not many will buy, but me and my clan will have them...

  • @eskimo-bob:
Not to be a dick, but...

what you're saying reminds me of an "indie" music fan bitching when their favorite band "sells out."

Is IW selling out to the "lol-console" crowd? Yes, absolutely. Then again, they're a business, not artists, so... you go where you have the largest possibility of making profits, and whether you like it or not, that's consoles, not PCs.

  • Yeah, it'll be fun playing this for a few days before MGO comes out. If it's not that hot, I'll be going back right to CoD4. It looks promising and brings me back to when I played Subsistence.

@SigmundTheSeaMonster: You said you were top spot for 5 matches. Did you win those matches? Being top spot in HQ doesn't really matter, the point of HQ is to take the headquarters. I side with him as I am continually pissed at playing Domination or HQ with people who think it's TDM. If you want to kill people, play DM or TDM. If not, capture the flag, the HQ, or the bomb.

  • @ForgotMyKeys:
I'm with you. Obviously, there are guys who need to work on how they "coach" their team mates (don't be a dick, just say, hey, let's win it) and strategize.

That said, it is frustrating as a player to go into a match looking to complete challenges (like "Win X number of sabotage matches") and have people in there to pad their kill stats or weapons challenges. If you don't like objective based games... don't play 'em.

For example, I was in one match where it was Sabotage and the map was Wetwork. The opposing team was just hanging onto the briefcase and trying to pad their kill stats. That's fine, whatever. So, we hung back, killed them about as much as they killed us, advanced the bomb when we could, and just played the match out. It went to sudden death, we killed them all and won the match.

OK, no trash talking, just sitting there and they're bitching about losing in the lobby. Look, geniuses, if you're about winning, play the match the way it's designed.

Only thing more annoying is playing hardcore with someone who thinks making teamkills is funny and trashtalks over the mic about teamkills. Brilliant.

  • @ForgotMyKeys:
Yes, we won those matches. And your point?

Side with whomever but ask yourself: When you have 5 teammates going for the HQ, and one asks/decides to flank and pick off the enemy (therefore sending the killed enemy back to a spawn far from the HQ) that is a tactical move. I find it amazing when 2-3 enemies decide to go after the single flanker, allowing the other team to gain the HQ.

If it pisses you off, go start your own private clan and play with similar. There are plenty of gamers that just play for fun, for the game, and even achievements/perk and points. But if you take it too seriously, you need some counseling.

  • @SigmundTheSeaMonster: I see both sides. I agree with you in the sense that playing with coaches is annoying. But I also get annoyed when playing things like HQ, and a guy decides to stay back and snipe people, and doesn't do much. You obviously do something, since you finished in the top slot, so you're one of the exceptions.

I sometimes get crap from my teammates after we capture a base, and the 1-2 that are currently dead are yelling at me for leaving the HQ, because I like to sneak around behind the incoming wave of enemies, because they rarely expect someone to do that.

  • @SigmundTheSeaMonster:

There is a difference between someone doing it strategically (if I'm not playing with my clan, I do the same thing you're describing) and asshats who run-in rambo style up the middle of the map or people who hold up the objective of the game.

You're right, if you're taking it too seriously, you need to stand down, but there is nothing more frustrating than playing an objective game to win it and having everyone else on your team play, coining a term here, fucktardishly by camping during Domination games, purposefully teamkilling/grenade spamming during Hardcore modes, etc.

All of that said, I'm not about to jump on my mic and tell people how to play the game. I'm almost never on my mic unless its to say stuff like (moving up behind you), (going to try and roll up their flank), (there is a guy at X location/took out guy at X location), or in Hardcore (I'm a friendly [if someone is just blasting at you blindly]/Sorry on that teamkill).

I've only got on my mic once to berate a team member is because a jackass was playing team death match and trying different ways of teamkilling all of us and giggling about it like running up and doing the cooked-grenade suicide or knifing guys in the back.

That's annoying in a ranked match no matter how you slice it.

  • how much is this going to cost?

  • @mx5geek: LOL, torrents:P

  • Good news is, we get map pack :D

Bad news is, i'm not going to be playing COD4 online that weekend, due to that one thing...what was it called again? oh yeah METAL GEAR ONLINE BETA!!!!!

Move the doublexp weekend to this week and i'll be happy :P

  • can we at least get a patch for RUMBLE?!

  • @Akmed:

akmed , sorry buddy no patch for rumble for COD4!

  • I love how us PC gamers get double screwed. First, they don't release the maps, and can't even give us a date on them, but they also screw us with ranked servers. If you want custom maps, you can't run a ranked server, and when you do that, all of a sudden, your server is on the bottom of the servers list. Making it very hard to get new people to join the server.

In other words, run our official maps that we'll release at a price we'll later announce, or have an empty server.

Btw, how would they prevent people who don't own the maps from playing on a server with them and getting them that way. They can't tell people that they can no longer play on dedicated servers because they didn't buy a patch, since dedicated servers get automatically updated with the newest patch revision.

  • @Grave of the Fireflies: Actually the COD4 DLC caused serious issues with XBLA, and everyone didn't get to get the maps at the same time. Apparently we all tried that and it didn't work out. The delay for Europe may be intended to ease the load on the servers. It really doesn't matter with PS3 though. You can just create foreign account and use that region's PSN store.

  • Isn't that weekend supposed to be "double XP weekend" to celebrate?

  • Not to raise alarm bells here. But in the view of being a british gamer and having to download updates on a bank holiday raises doubts because it will cause every n00bt00bing son-of-a-gun and his dog to download the costly extras at a very high rate with being off work and having nothing better to do apart from drink beer regardless and play COD4 in a gleeful attempt for finding those perfect camping spots before anybody else.
Plus the thought of somebody being paid overtime to press the release button. Give or take those attending the annual protest marches I have the feeling that the downloads are going to be in catastrophic numbers thus putting tremendous strain on the new shiny PSN.
I might have to think twice before inviting the lads round for some drink and the occasional deathmatch but hopefully this won't be the case.

  • @SigmundTheSeaMonster: Evil J and toefer said it best. It's great you won, and you did it from a tactical standpoint. There are people who just play like it's TDM and you know they're not trying to defend the capture of a flag or HQ because they're on a completely different side of the map just trying to rack up kills. These people are usually terrible, don't end up in the top spot, and have terrible K-D ratios. If you take it upon yourself to be that kill guy so someone else can defend/capture the base and consistently get radars, strikes and choppers, more power to you and I'd love to play with you.

@toefer: Yeah man, it's crazy sometimes how inept the other team is sometimes. I try to take a good vantage point rather than staying on top of the node. 'Nades often find my head otherwise.

  • Oh yeah, finally.

  • @ Amerijapoxicano: Yes, you can share DLC just like games.
@ Evil J: I hate those assholes that teamkill. Though I have to admit, a couple days ago, I became that asshole, but with good reason. This jerk in the lobby blurts out "Any n***ers in the room?" I let that go because I don't usually feed into that shit. Turns out this fucker is on my team, and he's constantly on his mic insulting teammates. When he says something to me, I knife him in the back. He asks me what the fuck that was for, I tell him he talks too much shit, so shut the fuck up and play the game. Needless to say, he didn't, so I continued killing him!

  • @GoldenGotGame:
That's different. That's a little bit o' vengeance for being an idiot. I got no beef with that...

  • @GoldenGotGame:
PS. I hate people who get on the mic just to say stuff for shock value. They think that shock value is all that's needed to be funny, and it's not... I had one guy in the lobby continuously go "Any N***ERS in here?" repeatedly with a faux deep voice and faux Southern Accent (I'm from Texas, I know a fake when I hear it) and heavily emphasize the slur.

Anyways, he doesn't end up on my team, but we get the dreaded "Host ended game" thing, and while waiting to get the final boot, it's "Goddamn N***ERS fuckin things up..." x 3.

    Wow.

It's like Larry the Cable Guy uncut! Which is the exact opposite of funny.
