Cigarettes are bad. They cause cancer. Cancer kills you. But candy cigarettes? Harmless! They only inspire impressionable children to smoke. And who better to rope 'em in young than Sonic the Hedgehog? The "New Tasty 100 percent Stick Candy Cigarettes" were found in the Philippines. Surgeon General warns of serious Sonic attitude!

The way Sonic waggles his finger, I'd say that he IS the warning.
I remember as a kid we used to get candy cigarettes all the time, I recall buying a pack of Superman smokes.
Having said that, I think the Teletubby condoms were a step too far.
Those are the longest smokes I've ever seen in my life! o_O Even for candy smokes.
I presume the use of Sonic wasn't authorised by Sega, given that it's just an old artwork of Sonic pasted onto the wrapper, with no other references to the character or Sega.
sonic cigarette candy...
sounds like a nice drug
Sonic says "smoke responsibly kids. One cigarette at a time."
Wow, those are the most realistic candy cigarettes I've ever seen. The ones I remember having as a kid were just a stick of chocolate in a paper wrapping.
Ah man, candy cigarettes! I really miss those things even though I'm now old enough to buy the real thing. Real tobacco doesn't taste like condensed sugar.
@Cruithne: I felt the same way about the Barney pregnancy tests.
It's a shame this stuff doesn't exist in the US anymore.
I remember candy cigarettes. The ones that I had were bubble gum with a coating of powdered sugar between the gum and wrapper. The powdered sugar made it look like it had smoke coming out of it when you puffed on it.
I miss candy cigs... why did they ever stop selling those? *looks down at empty packs of Newports*
Oh yeah. Shit.
smoke'm if you don't...
@Rupan: Yeah those are the ones I had as a kid too. They looked scary real from a distance with the puff of sugar.
I've never had!
I want to try!
@Hauler: The ones I bought when I was a kid were made out of a hard candy that turned to powder when you chewed them (Probably the same thing Ackart used to get). I'm going to hazard a wild guess and say no one sells candy cigarettes in the US anymore?
I'm going to take a further wild guess and say that Sonic's usage is totally unauthorized on that pack of class B candy smokes. No Sega logo makes me go hrmmm. (Class B cigarettes are heavier then class A, so they tend to be longer. No one really makes them anymore :-P.)

I used to LOVE Popeye cigs they were great, I haven't tasted any candy quite like them since :( .
Sonic Candy Cigarettes are NO GOOD!
I like how they put fruit on the cover too, so the candy cigs can be associated with healthy things, lol
I can't tell if this is funny or just Plain sad. I used to have some long time ago and I never smoked. It kind of lost it's taste after eating every once in a while for an entire summer.
The candy cigs I grew up with were gum, not chocolate- hmmmm. Seems I missed out. I've never been a smoker, but pals and I used to LOVE taking the candy ones to school. The teachers would think they were catching us trying to smoke; because the candy cigs look so real and all. o.O
+ Watch video
Smoking is for dumbots!
...unless it's Tasty 100%!
@hondo: Flavor Country is a big place.
@peAr_nectAr: I remember the little song for those Barney pregnancy tets.
"I loved you,
You loved me,
Now I need to check my pee"
Wow these look rather authentic. They even have the colored filter and the rings in the paper.
The candy cigarettes I used to buy were usually in a fairly authentic looking box but basically were just white, peppermint flavored sticks.
I loved candy, or sweetie as I called them, cigarettes. They came in both chocolate and a hard-sugar-like kind.
Some packs even included a card, but I've never been interested in actually smoking.
I miss the days of candy cigarettes. I used to love the rolled ones that would puff sugar out when you blew on the end of them. Ahhhh nostalgia.
@Cruithne: sounds more like a song for STDs.
I want to see a drunk person try to smoke one of these. Could someone in the Phillipines make it happen please?
lol i remember those. you can even blow it once to see powder fly like smoke from real cigarettes. ah how we wanted to be like adults back then. (before we learned about cancer) and you know the tobacco industry came up with this =P
@Kavatar:
I knew someone would post it. :)
ahhh cigarette candies, an integral part of every childhood
I'd smoke em!
I'm still upset cigarette candies are gone =( Though... I guess I can see why... but I miss them! I would always get the hard candy kind that were just pure white, with a little red tip. They looked nothing like the real thing, but we sure did act like it was. Now that I'm older I don't smoke, but I do crave me some candy cigarettes.
Wait a minute... there was an episode of that old Sonic cartoon where Tails, that weird robot with a drill nose and Sonic taught the kids that they shouldn't smoke. Sonic was the one who said that Tails shouldn't do it and that the kids shouldn't do it either. Now this happens. Wtf?
islandknight: I used to "smoke" those all the time. You blew and a cloud of powered sugar flew out.I loved candy cigarettes but grew up not to smoke real cancer sticks.
I also used to love my Marlboro Man, and Joe Camel apparel. Its a wonder I never smoked.Maybe Sonic will teach me smoking.

@Kavatar: Tails lights that cig at SONIC speed. He's clearly a pro and just putting on a show.
At least it wasnt Mario, there'd really be an uprising then
@Nawara_Ven: haha, you're right! He did not even stumble with it or anything. that cartoon must have been some sort of rehabilitation program for him, similar to a used car sales man who did lots of drugs in the 70's around here and was forced to yell "Don't do drugs kids!" at the end of all his commercials until recently.
Anyway I love candy cigarettes! I live in the US and I know some places to find them still, Similar to these at like some dollar stores or shitty party stores. Something about those hard sugar candy ones is just great, Fun Dips Lik-A-Stix's are very similar in flavor but not consistency.
You can still get candy cigarettes in most candy stores. They just call them "Candy Sticks" now. Still come in cigarette-style boxes, tho.
Can we get a Solid Snake version of these? That would be "cooler"!
I used to eat candy cigarettes, and never once in my life have I desired to smoke. Although, a couple months ago, at the mall, I discovered a candy shop that had them, so I bought a pack that looked as much like a real pack of cigarettes as possible, and it sits on my desk, waiting to fool the unsuspecting into asking me whether I smoke.
Mouahahaha
@Cruithne: Yeah, but they tasted just like fruit roll-ups.
I remember as a wee lad in the 60s chewing on candy cigarettes for 5 cents a box (of 20, no less!)...interestingly enough, I was never, ever tempted to put an actual cancer stick in my mouth (my dad chewed tobacco, which is, to me, the most disgusting habit ever; don't have your window down while sitting in the back seat of the car ^_^). Their proper gander din't work on meee...
I remember the one pack of candy cigarettes I had. They were fruit and when you blew on them, the candy powder came out imitating smoke. Was pretty darn flavorful. Still, didn't make me crave the flavor of tar and tobacco.
We used to have this chocolate cigarettes in Brazil. Needless to say they were banned. I think the picture of the little kid holding one didn't help.

wow, i havent seen candy cigarettes in a long time. i need to find some!
they still sell em here in Jersey, they just dont look like actual cigarettes, they're just long and white pieces of God knows what. they come in a knock-off Malboro box, its great haha
@bigman88zz: Here is where you can find both types
The bubble gum type with the powdered sugar Smoke
and the
real ones made out of sugar and what tasted like chalk with the fake colored red tip
Cough Down Memory Lane
Nice. I think back on when I would buy packs of those babies from the local Ice Cream Truck and wonder how they get away with it.
It just seems like they shouldn't be able to sell this stuff to kids.
love those things man! Childhood of the late 80's early 90's were so great! Candy cigs, ninja turtle pudding pies, trading cards , etc
So much fun. Now kids act like adults and play with real guns and real cigs. Dumb parents. What happened?
