Courtesy of GTTV. First half of the clip's pre-rendered stuff that you've seen before, but once it gets into the gameplay we get our first look at actual gameplay footage of Vader and Yoda. Should excite the fanboys no end, but lightsabers failing to cut through a steel sword is just...look, will nobody think of the canon!

I didn't see Maxi. =( *imagines light saber-esque nunchuks*
If I pick Yoda and can't ride Asteroth's (or I assume its him) axe (non-sexually), then I'll be thoroughly disappointed.
Well, the steel swords could be vibroblades like in KotOR...
@urbanbuddha: I want to climb up his back, and stab him in the head, I hate Asteroth. Speed FTW!
Uber ownage.
Why don't they just get rid of the Soul Calibur fighters and replace them with StarWars ones.
The SW playables is the only reason this game will sell.
SC2 = SC3 = SC4.
Wow, Namco's really whoring out these two gimmick characters that don't even fit in with the game world. (At least the SC2 characters fit in fine, less so with Link though)
why for lightsaber not cut through people?
then again, why for swords not cut through people?
Tow things are immediately noticeable:
1) Vader has a much more commanding screen presence.
2) Yoda looks like he seriously will break the game.
'scuse me whilst i clean myself up.@Jeff Paine: Less so with link? Are you high? Spawn and Heihachi don't fit either.
Apparently, according to gamestop tvs interview, there will be a nice story explaining the involvement of the two star wars characters.
I haven't seen enough of Vader's gameplay. All I've seen was a grapple and two slashes. Yoda I like. Fast combo-ing.
...and quit bitching about the canon, alright?
Fighting...inside...the Death Star.
Sold.
@Jeff Paine: Erm, they do this with all their guest characters. Spawn, Heihachi, etc., it's not canonical, just fun.
Yoda looks more irritating than I could of possibly hoped.
@okenny :): yo, when vader clashed swords with mitsurugi, i felt a bit bewildered and frightened. Something that hasn't been done to me by a star wars anything since the surprise twist in kotor.
@droopy: ugh think about his fucking hit box.
So stupid.
@ManjiKengo: Damn you. Also, I'm sure there are rabid enough star wars fans to be able to fit this magically in a specific timeline.
Isn't it gonna be a serious bitch to hit Yoda?
@Nirolak:
Exactly what I thought.... KOTOR introduced swords that could withstand lightsaber blows so i'll let my imagination wander into the possibilities that the technology survived and was somehow transported into the SC universe.
Now, why their bodies don't just fall apart at the first touch of a lightsaber is another story :D
Yeah the strangest part is the lightsabers not tearing through everything :( but I'll take it in green please :)
dude its all about vader man force choke people?(can he) but i agree if yoda can ride on his axe then that would be hella cool :D
@rdj: Rabid Star Wars fans can fit anything star wars into anything whatsoever, whenever, however, whyever.
@ggodo: You see, that's the secret throw Namco doesn't want you to know.
>.<
Why not just bring them into the game as two Uber killer characters, who are only evenly matched when fighting each other? It might be fun to play as Vader and you're having trouble beating some guy as any other player, but with Vader...yeah, force choke bitch, how ya like me now?
HAHAHAHAH I love all the supernerds talking about how unrealistic it is for the light saber not to shred everything. Motherfuckers, hate to tell you, but it's all fake!!! It's a fantasy fighting game about What If's, damn. I will be buying this on the first day for my PS3. www.myspace.com/gamecasa
The proof that having fun and enjoying scenarios and gameplay is more important than good storylines, plots, or even something that makes sense is right here. I don´t see noone complaning about this matter on this game... and I see no reason why.
Even Smash bros makes more sense since they are in a "toy story" alike world with "trophies figurines battling each other"
But even with everthing I just say, it makes me wonder why Namco did a Star Wars fighting game instead... well, maybe there simply aren´t too many ineresting characters to make one.. (about 10 at max?) and we don´t want another masters of tera kasi or whatever it was it´s name.
Wow. Yoda is like Toon Link in Smash.
@balls187++: Because then we'd have Masters of Teras Kasi Part Deux, and we don't want that...Nobody wants that. Trust me, YOU-DON'T-WANT-THAT...^_^
And here I thought all those bloom effects and cinematic lighting were actually armored manifestations of their aura, allowing them to not be sliced by weapons, let alone lightsabers.
Yoda = Eddy Gordo
I guess every Namco fighter needs a button mashing character.
Vader looks badass.
Yoda was about what I'd expect, but Vader made me catch my breath. Why can't I get Vader on my 360? Why Namco?
@Daemonstalker: not to be an uber-nerd, but KOTOR did not invent vibroblades. They've been in the books/comics for years
and i really really wish everyone would stop saying how the lightsabers should cut through everyone and that this isnt canon etc etc. Can't people just have fun with their games now? does everything have to "fit".
@balls187++: just like Tekken 1 = 2 = 3 = 4 = 5 with slight upgrades in between?
Or how about DoA 1=2=3=4?
It's a fighting game. Do you really need change? If i bought/played/enjoyed SC1-3 why would i want anything different from SC4?
@ManjiKengo: I mean their character designs feel right at home with the normal SC cast. Link sort of fit in, but still seemed out-of-place.
Yoda and Darth Vader just look ridiculous in the SC world.
@rdj: Who said anything about canon?
@Furysetzer:
Rumored to be DLC, cross your fingers
Bleh. They both look garbage.
@Jeff Paine:
How is Namco "whoring" vader and yoda? They're only in this game. That's not my definition of whoring.
Spawn and Link were pretty damn out of place, and at least Vader will appeal to more people than any of the extras from SC2
@ArmyofJuan: That's exactly how I see it. I really enjoyed Soul Calibur 2 and 3; all I want from 4 is a lot of the same, a healthy dose of new and some pretty polish to fix it all together.
Between this and the horrid character design I'm done with SC.
is it just me or is the game too shiny?
See, this is why I think BOTH should've been included. While Vader is a legendary character...Yoda's small stature means a far more unique moveset comparred to the rest of the normal-sized/giant characters.
cortosis weave ftw
See, I just saw Yoda jump on top of a scythe blade and ride it. I'm not paying much attention to canon with something as awesome as that.
Game looks awesome, and yeah, Soul Calibur knows its audience...
I don't really have too many complaints with either character. If anything, it justifies a need for LucasArts to give Namco full access to dev a complete Star Wars fighting game. Maul tearing it up the screen is reason enough...
One game. Forty years of crappy fanfics clogging my Star Wars porn search results. Thanks in advance, Namco.
why doesnt the lightsabre cut through a sword???that really is the main question after playin the previous games and never question the fact everyone can be pummelled with sharp weapons and never lose a limb???if this was a pc game and these characters were a mod everyone would scream "BADASS"
@darvos:
Gaw, you just beat me to it. Then again, I couldn't even remember the name, so I'm glad you go to it first.
Did Yoda just hitch a ride on that dude's axe?
Good, it looks like the characters will stay as faithful as possible to their depiction.
I like me a nimble Yoda. Reminds me of Eddie; button-mash funhouse.
It's not REALLY about the canon, but it just looks weird seeing a sword and a lightsabre clash.
It's like seeing someone jumping on water and walk over it.
It just looks...stupider than I expected.
I'll have to instill a house rule: anyone who picks a Star Wars character gets a punch in the arm for making the next fight look ridiculous.
@ManjiKengo: It's going to be Gon all over again, mark my words.
Still utterly ridiculous. And the most unnecessary cross over in gaming history.
If you can suspend your disbelief at the fact a samurai sword won't cut through someone, then you can damn well pretend the fictional lightsabre weapon will also not cut through people.
Looks like Vader's light saber does a number on an innocent rock in the video so there must be something special about those swords they're fighting against. Anyway, there's no such thing as Star Wars "canon" because George Lucas fucked that up a long time ago. Besides, Vader's had his ass handed to him by Obi Wan Kenobi AND Luke Skwywalk and there's nothing in Episode IV, V and VI to indicate that he's so special. He just looks cool.
However, it would be nice to play a properly weighted game where finishing the game would open an unlocked Vader that could easily make mincemeat out of his opponents.
It doesnt looks as idiotic as Snake fighting Jigglypuff
Those who complaining about Star Wars characters being out of place or how lightsabers don't cut through things are forgetting how ridiculous Soul Calibur is in the first place.
Before this Star Wars business, we had knights vs. samurai vs. pirates vs. ninjas vs. vampires. How is that not ridiculous? Toss in combinations of zombie pirates and magical ninjas and evil swords and girls with huge breasts and it gets more ridiculous. And these sharp metal blades doesn't cut anyone in half, so why should lightsabers?
The only bad thing about this is that I won't get Darth Vader on the 360 version. =[
Yeah... the whole Soul Calibur keep-it-canon idea went out the door the moment they decided not to include blood or severed limbs or even fleshwounds.
The Black Knight is appalled.
im surprise that impaling people with a lightsaber CANT harm you
I'll probably be the first to point out that Vader's lightsabre style requires the use of both hands.
Sorry, I just think this looks incredibly stupid.
