Your computer would explode. That's what. So let's just play hypotheticals, then, and check out this clip showing what the Imperial City and surrounding countryside look like running on Crytek's CryEngine. The city assets are dropped straight in from Oblivion, but the natural stuff and lighting, that's all new. And gorgeous.
Oblivion To Crysis [Crymod, thanks Will!]

my god its beautiful
give now?
What's with the music? sounds like it's from lord of the rings.
This put me into some sort of meditative trance of joy.
Made me dream of what the sequel will look like!
Thanks to the creators of this.
It looks pretty....but it would probably need 3 playstations 3 and 4 xbox 360 duck taped together to run smoothly :P
@Ichidou: Agreed about music. Can't tell too much difference though with graphics. It's nicer, but not UTTERLY MIND-BLOWING. You know.
Next Elder Scrolls better be running on a Crytek engine.
Wooooooooooooooooow. *drools*
I don't notice anything mind-blowingly different, to tell the truth.. The foliage was nicer. *shrug*
It certainly looks beautiful. I wish I could actually play it though..
mod of the year? I think so!
*heart sinks*
This is why i hate not having a good computer. I know my PS3 has some crazy stuff, but I won't be able to play that, and that SUCKS. I wonder if I really could make a budget Crysis PC.
"What If Oblivion Ran On The Crysis Engine?" , well the ps3 and 360 would display an error message "i cant run this sh1te at 1080"...
This Needs an HD Gametrailers upload PRONTO.
I thinking og building a pc, but has no job right now. (sobs).
Respectful awe: *wipes away tear* I'm sorry... that's beautiful.
Loud and obnoxious: HOT DAMN, BIATCH!
wowwwww
My computer's performance just chugged along just watching that video.
Utterly amazing!
I love what people are doing with the engine. I've never seen a community so dedicated to experimenting. Has anyone even attempted to create a game out of it or just keep playing with the capabilities?
Am i blind cuz i didnt notice a difference :/
Or maybe it was just youTube's beautiful quality.
Y'know, that my only gripe with the graphics in Oblivion was the greenery, and man, it looks pretty awesome there.
My jaw dropped, and I really had an urge to re-install Oblivion. But then I remembered the sub-par gameplay and just enjoyed the rest of the video.
The trees look a bit too jungle-y, but once you get into town it just looks fantastic.
Is it just me or does that look about the same as Oblivion with the 'Natural Environments' mod loaded on?
oooo pretty :)
Makes me wonder what ballistic hardware this video was rendered on...I'm imagining some fantastic rig with four 8 series cards and eight cores of processing power or some such nonesense. Or was this video rendered frame-by-frame and then stitched, like those barrel videos from a while back?
looks like crap on YouTube..
I waited the whole video for the adoring fan, beautiful nonetheless.
I don't remotely enjoy the visuals produced by the crytek engine...
now before you stone me, let me explain.
Everything looks bland, with the exception of the ocean, falling trees, ice, and sun rays.
In my opinion the real world is 99.9% of the time completely boring to look at... it's only rare eclipses, sunsets, clouds, storms, etc that are pretty to observe...
Games are supposed to embellish things in life to make them look more amazing, not just attempt to recreate them perfectly.

interesting. i wonder what the people would have looked like
wow, just wow
:o My computer broke from just watching the video.
People should use these methods to create multiplayer arenas for games you can mod. That looks like a great Battlefield-style map :P
yeah the natural environments mod makes oblivion look about as good as that with the standard engine.
I have a degree in violin performance, that is a very famous symphony by Antonin Dvorak. It's his symphony "number 9" and he based it on his impressions of music from "The New World," back when America was "The New World."
I've played it with orchestras before. It makes me a bit sad that when people don't recognize this stuff. You can hear inspiration that a lot of film music composers have found in this music.
The part in the video:

Another sample from the same symphony:

@Ichidou: The song is Dvorak's 9th Symphony, 2nd Movement.
Im seeing colors I've never seen before!
I love it.
Doesn't look much better.
I don't want to get too explicit but I may need new pants.
I don't really see a difference w/ Oblivion on PS3. But then again it might have been the video's YouTube quality.
That just might be the sexiest thing I have ever seen. If I didn't know any better I would have thought the frist 5 seconds were real life. I love oblivion, can't wait for the next installment.
The outdoors looked amazing and the city lighting was much better. My main wish for the next Elder Scrolls (or even Fallout) is that the cities not be roped off in a castle anymore. The loading and only a couple ways into the cities completely ruined the immersion for me that jumping into Balmora was like in Morrowind.
href="#c5192257">Mohican: It makes me sad that you felt you had to preface that sentence with your credentials (I'm not insulting you; I'm saying it's sad that only music majors recognize classic pieces like this nowadays). Yup, that Deevorjack fella shore is a good musicker. We had a good marching drill to his 9th/8th last year in our High School band.
That lighting, wow. Some aspects of it looked somewhat meh, some of the textures didn't look too swell under the lighting. For the most part however, damn.
This would be so amazing.
then i would buy it
what this video needs is more collapsing building

luke this post, this little gem provoked me to get my lazy fingers off my wrist wrest and finally create a posting account for kotaku.com This dropping of asses into the Crytek engine is very teasing SO TEASING but at the same time it's nice for our grahpic whore eyes and our dreams. Thanks Mr. Plankett! now i'll be able to post on Kotaku haha

That may be the saddest statement I've read in a long, long time.
You really need to do some traveling.
I don't have much to say. Just:
Holy shit.
That looks fucking amazing.
Make it happen.
bad quality on the last one, here is the high def version of the youtube vid.

I can't tell too much of a difference, but it IS nice. The music though, what the hell is up with that?
YouTube res. Not even a side-by-side. This is .001 better than nothing.
I love seeing all the overinflated reactions, though! :)
