Can't let the competition get one up on you! After Def Leppard announced last week that one of their new songs will be debuting in Guitar Hero III, Mötley Crüe have today been wheeled out by the Rock Band camp, with news that their latest single, "Saints of Los Angeles", will be premiering not on the radio or TV but as a piece of Rock Band DLC. I'm trying to get excited over this, but really, wheeling out new stuff from these decaying old bands really doesn't do it for me. I want "Kickstart my Heart", not some new, inevitably-rubbish song.

No one cares about new motley crue music!
We care about old lynyrd skynyrd music!
Where's simple man?!
This particular release doesn't really do much for me, but it's great to see bands and labels embracing Rock Band as a real medium like this.
From what I heard on YouTube, it sounded like typical Motley Crue, which I was pretty ambivalent to since I've never really been a fan. I won't put it in a make-a-setlist, but I won't mind if it pops up in a mystery setlist.
@Mikey: Tomorrow. Simple Man comes tomorrow.
Yeah, really.
We need Kickstart My Heart!
It's only a buck, and it's a limited time thing for a buck, might as well. Hair metal is still somewhat listenable.
whoa whoa whoa, Motley Crue? Rubbish? They had like three new songs a few years ago on their Red, White and Crue compilation that were great. "If I Die Tomorrow" got a lot of air-time. If you want rubbish go look at the cd they had when they replaced Vince Niel at lead vocals. That was garbage
so, 2 washed-up-out-of-date-now-crappy bands decide to debut new songs on video games. Do i go with the Crue on Rock Band? of Def Leppard on GH3? OR! Do i not waste my money on either of their crap music and go buy some beer.
@Moridin: agreed.
"I want 'Kickstart my Heart'"
This is the best thing you've ever said, Luke.
HELL YES.
By the way, I heard the song on Youtube. It's actually not too shabby. Vince still has that voice.
Also, I'm excited at this prospect of new music being released via Rock Band and GH 3. If Activision cared more about GH 3 DLC, it might actually create some awesome competition between the two.
@Mikey: I care about the crue goddamn it.
@Sparx: "Bastard" on Shout at the Devil was pretty damn good.
The song was playing on my Satellite Radio yesterday.
I had no idea it was Motley Crue. You could've said Megadeth and I wouldnt've known the difference. This song is pretty powerful and it would make a good Rock Band tune.
@Sparx: Rubbish? That album was HILARIOUS
oh, how the average have fallen sub-par...
Is Mick Mars actually alive? Or do they just move him around like in Weekend at Bernie's? I'm ambivalent regarding the whole Rockband DLC thing, but I'd still really like to know if Mick Mars is dead.
I think that I would spontaneously combust if I could play Kickstart My Heart on Rock Band....
@All_Thumbs: He's alive, they all are
I just had to say, I'm listening to That Dog - Retreat from the sun. This whole ALBUM needs to be on Rock Band.
Sorry, please continue about Crue. sigh.....
@Luna: We might be the only ones that do care.
@All_Thumbs: is that even supposed to be funny?
@Sparx: I guess we are. these new kids probably have no idea how much ***** these guys got throughout their entire career. and Nikki hasn't aged a bit.
I'll take the entire Dr. Feelgood album
Well shoot, I didn't realize he had a problem with his joints(I just looked it up) Even though I have arthritis through most of my own joints, I can't imagine something as potentially painful as what he's gone through, and I feel bad about my comment. Keep rockin' Mick!
Sorry for all the posts but this is huge to me. Its tough hearing two of your favorite bands being called washed up. IMO good music died with grunge. Sure some bands had some good music like Nirvana or Spin Doctors but all you hear today is 1 of 4 things: rap (all sounds alike), screaming metal (what the hell are they saying?), emo skater (waah nobody loves me), or slutty pop (I'm bringing sexy back). Those all suck. I will make an exception for a few bands. The Darkness and Dragonforce bring me back to the good ol days of rock. Hell I'm only 22 so its not like I grew up with it or anything
Interesting that I heard the song no fewer than 3 times over the weekend here on one of the Detroit Hard Rock stations. Its not anything I would pay MS points for.. Thats for sure
whyyyyyyyyyyyyy? This is going to turn into a trend now. People are going to make rock band bands and release albums on DLC...
@All_Thumbs: That means its time to stop playing, but who am I to say? I may get carpal tunnel or arthritis from playing guitar too much and say I am bad ass, but I'll probably stop playing if it started to hurt a lot. "Keep rockin' Mick!"
@Sparx: I'm not a fan of any of that stuff either, but there are a bunch of modern bands already in the game that are really good. The Hives, Jet, Ok Go, Wolfmother...
Then there's The White Stripes and The Fratellis.
There's always good music, it just isn't always the stuff on the radio.
I'm not one to get excited about motley crue but this song will be a lot of fun to play.
@Sparx: ditto, music died with Grunge (though I do like a few grunge bands). and yes music is trash today. take 50 cent for example: his music is all them same...like his "Magic Stick" and candyshop (with the line that I hate "I'll let you lick the lolipop")songs. it's all the same. I do like stoner rock (Fireball Ministry). I'm only 19 and I grew up listening to my dad's tapes and CDs. the day I realized my hatred for Emo is when I saw "Teenagers"... the video is a straight ripoff from Nirvana's "Smells like teen spirit". and whatever happened to Rob Zombie?
@Zerozaki Ishiki: I agree there are good bands out there, but chances are I've never heard of them. I absolutely adore Dragonforce and for that somebody will call me a fairweather fan bc of GH. To that I say jokes on you. If it wasnt for GH I never would've heard of them and missed out on a great band. Same thing with Fozzy, if I wasn't in a WWE phase I might never have heard of them either. This is one of the major vices I have against American Idol and why I refuse to support it. There are hundreds of great bands/singers out there who make great music and are earning their own way and people still don't know who they are. Some jackass gets 5 minutes on a tv show and suddenly all of America knows who they are. You don't even have to win to get a contract anymore.
@Sparx: Yeah, I think I stopped actively looking for new music a while back. Didn't hear anything I liked on the radio, stopped listening to the radio. Only picked up a few new bands from recommendations or random chance. Rock Band has really got me listening to a lot of new music again, since I always give the new tracks a listen. There's a fair amount of crap in there too, but still, unexpected bonus.
I'm not a crue fan or anything but the song is great for rock band, and it's a dollar. cut the bitching
That picture does remind of Weekend at Bernie's.
YeeeaH! Bring it on!!
wow, lost some respect there, plunkett...
I don't care if the song is new or old, as long as it doesn't suck. Sorry for not up to date on my Crue lore and personalities, but who's the dead man propped up in the chair?
$1 + decent song = sold!
I know Mr Mar's has been sick most of his life, but that can't be him sitting in the chair? If it is, he looks very ill yet.
Curse these 99 cent tracks and their appeal to my impulsiveness...
Listened to it via the YouTubes...should be fun to play.
As usual (unless it's on my "must have" song list) I'll have to see the charts.
@Sparx: In your opinion and as such I respect it but the only thing that died with Grunge was Hair Metal, and personally we were better off without it.
Remember the attack of the W's? (Warrant, Whitesnake, Winger, W.A.S.P) and the endless stream of power ballads? It had to stop for the good of humanity... I mean, were we forced to listen to the 1-2-3 combo of 18 To Life, Every Rose Has Its Thorn and More Than Words one more time and there would've been riots, homicides, natural disasters and dogs/cats living together.
I'm not a big fan of Grunge either, I've always stayed on the hardcore, extreme metal, indie and industrial camps but some scenes need to die when they outlive their usefulness and Glam Metal just like Grunge had to go.
Last time I saw Mick Mars was on Howard Stern On Demand.. and he couldn't even move his neck.. I love Motley though I will agree totally that their new shit is not even close to as the greatness of Too Fast for Love all the way up to Dr. Feelgood... it's a bit depressing that they fell off the way they have. I did like "If I Die Tomorrow" though. Motley and Guns N' Roses are my favorite bands of all time. Bottom line is, I will probably buy this song. Now Axl needs to put some tracks from Chinese Democracy in Rock Band!
I'd like to see some fucking GWAR as well!
This just makes us Europeans being shafted over Rock Band all the more hard to deal with!
Just downloaded and played.
It's pretty damn worth it for a dollar. Song was really fun on guitar (expert), and was actually a good sounding song.
I recommend it.
If they were going to do some Motely Crue I would have preferred "Dr. Feelgood" or "Girls, Girls, Girls".
I have no idea about most of the groups you all are talking about (these "new" groups) - I guess that comes with age. Plus it doesn't help that whenever I turn on the radio to try and get with the times, my kids come into the room and want to hear their kiddie stuff.
Why all the Crue hate? They were (still are) a great band when I was in Jr High/High school. Sure Feelgood was a good album, but Shout at the Devil was even better.
For me, true "Rock Band" tunes would include the likes of Judas Priest (Defender of Faith and older), Scorpions (Love at First Sting and older), Van Halen (with David Lee of course), more Iron Maiden .... and so on. But its good to have some Crue on there too. Hopefully this will be a trend to see songs debuting on RB.
If it were free I might give it a try, but no way I'm paying even a buck for a new song from a washed up hair metal band.
Still, as others have mentioned, it's good to see bands embracing this avenue of releasing new music.
I'll be getting this today, if for no other reason than to support the concept. Yeah, they're a washed up eighties band, but I loved them as a kid - and if it makes other bands follow suit, it's worth my dollar.
Fuck yeah.
Kickstart my heart.
nowwww.
Do you hear us, Harmonix?
@Luke: Mötley Crüe have today been wheeled out...
Wheeled out? I'll assume you meant they stormed out on flamethrowing motorcycles with a phalanx of scantily-clad females on both sides. They don't need to be 'wheeled out'...OK, well, maybe Mick.
But they're still better today than a lot of the noise out there.
The only sad note for me in this announcement is the reminder that the Wii version won't have DLC. I'm not willing to buy another console just for RB DLC...but Mötley Crüe RB DLC? If they start releasing a lot of MC tracks...I'll be forced to.
I'm off to listen to the new tune...granted, I already know it'll rock, it's f*ckin' Mötley Crüe! Looking forward to the new CD and hopefully another tour. My eardrums finally recovered from the last one, so they're due for another blast.
So...when *did* Motley Crue become classic rock?
Kickstart My Heart is probably my favorite Crue song, but SOLA is still a really good song, and its killer to play on guitar, and pretty fun on drums too.
Hey, how about those ALBUMS that were promised MONTHS ago??? WTF!!!
