Someone stuck this on reddit an hour ago — can't find the source, but love the filename: OH HAI. Indeed. That looks like at least half-a-dozen sentinel guns, and Engineer's enjoying his beer.
Good ole Engie. And just to justify this so-win picture, Machinima has an excellent video on how to play him in Team Fortress 2, including a sequence on playing him offensively. I mean, on offense. He's definitely playing offensively in that shot above.
How to Play the Engineer [Machinima.com, by EvilDaedalus]
Update: Reader Andrew "Duderman" Macintosh (commenter dudenextdoor00) claims responsibility for this picture. Nice job! Original is here.

The engineer is my favorite character. Nothing quite like building a big sentry gun to do the fighting for you, and then hiding behind it
Offensive Engineer rocks. One of my favorite class if played offensively.
I could watch an entire movie in Machinima using Team Fortress ... the style is just so brilliant, as long as the writing/camera work was up to par it would be like watching a Pixar movie.
hah. Love how those guys have a lot of personality. I mean, the engie's left pinky finger alone has about ten times as much personality as the Halo-guy and the Gears-of-war-crew, combined.
Hahaha! Nice find Owen! Mmmm ... I loves me some TF2!!!
I'm glad that I ended up buying it for my old PC, and it makes me feel bad that the 360 version probably will get no love. I would like to buy the Orange box (360) just to play Half Life 2 with HDR lighting. But who knows? I know that Valve is currently trying to get Left 4 Dead out of the door, so maybe after that gets released the 360 version of TF2 might get some love.
@solar_tf: - "Love how those guys have a lot of personality."
Agreed! They really did one hell of a good job, so I guess it was worth the 9 year wait.
@dead_red_eyes: There's some mod that adds HDR to HL2 it also changes some of the character models, but you should disable it (trust me).
It's a pity you have to constantly babysit your creations so no git of a spy comes along and trashs them.
@The_nub_next_door: I've heard that both the R8 HDR Bloom Mod and the Cinematic Mod are terrible, so I never gave them a shot.
We have an 'Oh Hai' tag now?
Engineer is fun to play as, but I dunno. I guess it's too much waiting around doing nothing too much of the time, just waiting for enemies. Unless, like someone else said, you play it as an offensive class, which isn't always viable. I wish you could build more than one sentry at a time, though that would probably make it too unbalanced.
The funniest character has to be the Heavy. His facial expressions are hilarious, particularly when he goes on a killing spree and starts laughing maniacally.
There's nothing like sneaking into the enemy base and building a sentry and teleporter in the enemy intel room on 2fort. I did it last night and got 3 other engineers in there to help, lets just say we won very quickly.
This pic reminds me of that.
SENTRY DOWN!
hahaha, thats great
@Mainman: Owen said that when he found the picture, the filename was "OH HAI". Hence the tag.
@jello44:
Dispenser down!
Teleporter down!
Building a Sentry here!
Sentry down!
*pulls out shotgun*
*fucks up Spy*
Man, that's a sweet picture!
Offensive engineer=awesome. Engineer barricaded within a wall made of a sentry gun and dispener? Asking to get Spied.
@dead_red_eyes: No duh. I just don't see any likelihood of an upcoming range of articles under this tag, short of a string of lolcat posts.
uh...demoman anyone?
@Mainman: ...But then again, people who want to find this article quickly can do so because of the unique tag.
/headdesk
@solar_tf:
Thats only because you know what he can do with his pinky. :P
Man I would hate to rocket jump into that.
@Mainman:
Oh no, Kotaku is using a "OH HAI" tag. THE WORLD IS GOING TO END EVERYBODY!
Good video but he doesn't seem to mention the fact that sentry guns have a finite range and therefore more than one rocket man, a sniper, or even demo man with time to get range on the stickies can take them down.
@ fumar: my thoughts exactly and always having a teleporter right next to you so if things get hot easy exit =D
The rest of his videos are also amazing. I should be studying, but what the hell.
That pic is full of WIN! I really need to start playing this type of game.
@dead_red_eyes: Damn spies sap everything, The World included. Could someone pass me a wrench?
I need some dog-gone help!
good movie. i'm more of a defensive engy.. i get pissed at engies who build in the other base when the enemy's traipsing out the door with our intel. defense first, offense if you can afford it. that said, no denying offensive engy is a hell of a lot of fun :)
Hmm, the link isn't working for me. Anyone else having this problem?
@TheCleaningGuy: Bah, nevermind. found it on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxodkFM8N1U
@TheCleaningGuy: Kotaku victim #2 since last week. Witcher and now machinima.
Thanks for the 'tube link!
Use a gun. And if that don't work, use more guns.
I love engies.
@TheCleaningGuy:
Yeah, it's still not working for me. I've been trying the last 15 minutes. Thanks for the YouTube link!
Engiqueers & Demonoobs are for pussies!
Oh yes, that picture is now my desktop background. Engie is actually my most played class, not necessarily because I like it so much, but because I play the 360 version, where there are many people playing Halo Fortress 2 and completely ignoring any kind of defense.
@Fuzzba11: ...Demonoobs? Really? Noobs who try to play the Demoman tend to just completely suck at it, so I don't see where you're coming from.
Hey OWEN, do you think that you could maybe put this YouTube link to the Engineer offensive training video up top? Machinima.com seems to be having issues at the moment.
+ Watch video
@Fuzzba11:
Was using the word "queer" really necessary?
@MajorMcMuffin:
Second.
@Fuzzba11: Um, Engies are necessary regardless of what team you're on or what map you're playing. Try defending any of the Dustbowl maps without at least two Engies. If the enemy team knows what they're doing, you'll get owned in minutes.
Demos aren't as newb friendly as they use to be since Valve cut down on their ammo.
So yeah, learn the game before you open your mouth.
As for the pic, that is pretty impressive, but it's not a very viable defense. One or two Medics ubering a couple of Pyros/Demos/Soldiers would destroy those SGs with minimum effort. They're clustered up too tightly.
Still a great pic though. :)
Thanks guys I made the picture and thanks for the love Kotaku! You can find the original here [ontargetgaming.ning.com]
Just kick on "view full size" in the bottom right hand corner. Thanks again guys :)
The use of the song "Weapon of Choice" makes this the best damned video of the week.
@dudenextdoor00: Damned fine picture sir.
May we please have another? ;D
If "win" could be shipped in a container from China on a large cargo ship, then the originator of this image should be expecting that shipment in 3...2...1...
\@Witzbold:
I'll definitely be working on some more :)
I should ask...any requests or ideas?
@Fyren: @dead_red_eyes: No problem! I actually meant to have the video embedded like dead_red_eyes , but it didn't work for some reason.
man, these Ning.com social networks are catching on pretty quick.
@Witzbold: they were all pretty good. haven't heard that last song in forever.
HAI DER
[SNL clip]
Oh if only real life were so comical on death.
@dudenextdoor00:
GREAT job on the picture!!!
No love for the Pyro?
All these comments reek of spy hate. You damned engies better watch your back! >:O
As far as the video went, I didn't find it helpful in the slightest. Also excluded some engineer tricks I like, such as placing a dispenser in a corner and jumping on top of it; completely protecting you from backstabs.
@Pezdispenser: Pyro is quickly becoming my favorite class. :D
Ah, another tip he didn't put in for the Pyro video: running backwards. With the way fire travels in the game, the enemy takes MUCH more damage if they're running into you rather than you charging towards them. Of course, the only class that should be foolish enough to charge into a Pyro should be other Pyros. Using this method, I've been able to take down (and dominate) 4 enemy Pyros at the same time, with most of them spamming "WHY WONT YOU DIE!?" in allspeak. Enjoy the awesome technique! ;D
@Furious_Liver:
Yeah, it didn't take me long to figure that out, Pyro's my most played class (more time than all of my other guys put together).
Here's a little info about Sentries I picked up by accident:
If you land directly on top of an enemy sentry it "might" not be able to shoot you. I didn't give it much time before flaming it, but as soon as I landed on it (instead of aiming up and shooting me) it starting spinning around wildly. It would be nice if I could get this verified, but I haven't been in a situation since where I could try again.
@Pezdispenser: Wow, you must have landed directly at the back tip of the sentry or so. That may confuse it a little as it may not be sure if it needs to look up or turn around. Nice find. Although it would be quite difficult to replicate those results.
I'm always lookin' for a good Pyro to try to backstab, so add me on Steam if you like burning overconfident spies. ;D
[steamcommunity.com]
@Zeliard:
Waiting around??! No way! You build your gun, then you run to the other base, whip out your rail gun and wrench and go kill!
Ah i did this before, but in an actual game with a bunch of other engineers. BWahah the amount of LOL Spammed on the mics and in the chat box as uber heavies were blasted back by 8+ sentries was priceless. Then we built a bunch of teleporters that led to the same spot and my computer nearly exploded -_-.
heh this was done on gmod im guessing?
Five Stars for the image. xD
I'm assuming this was made in gmod?
