The writer of design blog ProsumeThis says this Metal Gear Solid 4 headset he designed is real, in production, will cost $60, is officially licensed and will be available on June 12, same as the game. While I'd love to believe him, I don't, but that doesn't make the design any less pleasing on the eye. In terms of functionality and design it's based off the wireless 360 headset, but MGS fans may see something a little more familiar in the aesthetics and colour scheme, especially if you've been keeping up with the media released for MGS4 (think little wheelie robots). Very classy.
Behold! The Metal Gear Headset [ProsumeThis, thanks Michael!]

He should change it to make it look like the Metal Gear Ray Head.
j/k. The Headset looks nice. :( I don't know what to believe in any more.
If they made that it would PRINT MONEY.
Oh and make folks look like the biggest geeks ever who wear it.
But very COOL GEEKS! ;D
the only thing that would make this real would be a photo. with a person wearing it.
then again this is a render, so that has to be proof this exists, right? ;)
That would print money and stuff. It looks real great. :D I wish i could buy one.
Looks like its a photoshop. I would like to see the creator actually wearing this product since its in mass production with release in two months.
If they won't make this I will
im in love.
although i feel bad as im now realize im a hypocrite because i remember seeing the Halo wireless headset and laughing at the insane price tag and thinking how dumb it was.
im ashamed.
As do I, Luke... As do I.
-Niric
I would pay anything for that!
Looks bad ass...
But I think I'll just wait for the 2-for-Tuesday on woot.
yes sir i want this
@Witzbold: That's a Chic Geek lol. It won't only print money, though. Nope, it'll activate FOXDIE within a bunch of players.
All they gotta do now is just totally have snake or otakon wearing this thing in game and its set for marketing madness.
@ph15h: That would be EPIC.
Upon first glance it looked like a full on VR headset which I thought was awesome.
As long as it has better reception than the piece o crap that came with Warhawk...
@Witzbold:
You know if they did that, they could easily push a million of those things.
I gotta say, the design is nice and sleek. I'd buy one.
surely something would have leaked earlier than this.
DAMN that's some hot shit. Me wants.
@Fyren:
on the actual website it says it's a rendering which would in fact be not real, though generally not made in photoshop either, I would guess either illustrator or maybe a 3d rendering, but really illustrator would be the most likely gradients let you produce ridiculously realistic looking illustrations. A couple months ago in my second photoshop/illustrator class our first project was to basically do the same thing. Make something photo realistic in illustrator.
I could definitely see this being real. I don't think I would buy one because I already have a bluetooth headset but mine is kinda uncomfortable so potentially I could pick this up.
Oh man a little wheelie robot would be awesome it could carry your PS3labtop around for you.
And you could be doing all sorts of crazy stuff like screaming a prolethera of obsenities into your headset in public, because that sniper just got you for the 5th freaking time!
DO WANT!
What a nice looking piece of headgear. I'd buy that in a second, although I hope if it were real, that the audio quality would be on par with other headsets for sixty bucks.
Yeah...you know what? I get so ridiculously frustrated with the level of bigotry and racism I encounter online (be it any online service or game), that nothing could make be pay extra for a headset of any design. It's just not worth it to me. $60 to wear a little MGS4-styled headset so I can listen to people call me a homosexual and tell me to suck their racist dicks? No, thanks. I think Sony's vanilla headset can do that just fine on its own.
Hmm ... I'm pretty sure that would make me finally break down and get a bluetooth headset. It looks clean enough that I wouldn't feel stupid wearing it in public (well, any stupider than wearing any other bluetooth headset in public, that is).
@dead_red_eyes: If secret in game conversations could be unlocked ONLY by having this Headset? I think people would be paying 60 bucks for this.
Little comedic tidbits or insightful conversations about the Metal Gear lore that can be unlocked and paged through to the headset? Hmm... I'm getting patent ideas. j/k
$60? What the hell?
Also, when I first saw that image, I for some reason thought it was a virtual reality helmet. That would be worth $60.
Looks pretty nice. Not an MGS fan but that'd be a cool unbranded headset to have.
I do like how the red MGS text with the white number gives it just enough color to make it classy and not tacky.
That is one sexy earpiece. I would totally buy it...too bad my ears are freakishly small. There's a reason I'm attached to my Halo 2 headset. It may be wired, but damnit, it fits!
Still, I'd probably buy this anyways. It would go well with my pathetic desire for weird pop culture references few, if any, would get. Right alongside the Power Rangers song for my cellphone... "Yes Zordon?"
aw, man...id sell my crappy jabra one and get this in a second.
I looked through the guy's blog and he makes references in other posts to his "friends" and "contacts" at Konami. So either this man has a vivid fantasy life or this might actually be legit. I tell you what, if something like that was bundled in a Limited Edition of a game, I would get it in a second. I am never going to pay $20-$30 extra for a game when all I get extra is a making of movie, some concept art, and maybe a soundtrack. Throw in a badass bluetooth though...or maybe a t-shirt...and I would get that in a second.

@Witzbold:
Agreed.
I don't get why some people are vexed by the $60 price tag. I think it's safe to say that it's about the average price for a Bluetooth headset. Sure, there's some cheap Motorola ones out there ... but that's what they are ... cheap. And cheap isn't necessarily the greatest thing. I never mind spending a few extra $$$ for a quality product.
@Yeux de nouilles: If it was a Virtual Reality Helmet, it wouldn't be $60, more like $600.
VR Missions with an HD monitor Built in displaying 1080p? That's worth a $600 Kojima product worth purchasing.
@ph15h:
I don't know... one of Kojima's first concepts for Metal Gear was a game that would stop working when you lost the game.
Of course, he never went through with it... imagine, surviving to the last level, only to fail, and have to go out and buy a new copy of the game!
@Parapraxis:
Wow, I never heard about that. Do you have any articles handy that talk more about it?
@Parapraxis:
He probably appropriated that from an episode of Magnum P.I.
Higgins had an adventure game that did the same thing.
I want a bluetooth headset that I can actually wear outside of the house too.
I'm sure some smart cookie will be making home-made versions of this in his own custom mold, completely working but without the trademarks.
Official or not, it's quite a good design!
I'd buy that headset, and I don't even have a PS3!
Reeeeally wouldn't mind having that as a 360 headset.
We all can dream, eh?
@Karoshi:
HIGGINS! Hahaha. Oh man ... that show brings me waaaaayyyyyy back. I never remember seeing that episode tho. It's an interesting idea ... even tho I don't think it would really work.
@mantel:
I think that it would be great Microsoft didn't keep such a closed system for the 360. That way we could use some of our own peripherals without having to buy into proprietary crap, and companies could manufacture their own wireless devices. But we know this won't happen.
Kudos to Sony on this one.
@Karoshi:
Just for you, a little Higgins action:
+ Watch video
Upon first glance it looks real but I'm 75% sure it isn't. I know a lot about Photoshop and the "Metal Gear Solid" writing still has white spots that he forget to cut out or erase when he was copying it onto the render. If it was real they wouldn't have random white spots between L and G, and R and S. Trust me, it's fake. Those random white spots was because he forgot to erase it or he couldn't because they were too small.
@Parapraxis: No one can ever say Kojima doesn't think outside the box.
...Pun intended, sorry. :(
@ArmyofJuan: I feel you totally. I would buy this, I really should not I have two bluetooth headsets.I believe this could be real.
@Pata-pwn(TM?):
I see it as well. Although he states that it is a solid works rendering, I hope to someones god that if it's real ... he fixes that copied & pasted text.
I wish it were true too. I would buy this without blinking an eye.
Looks great. But, what part of the game would make you use this? I have not played any other MG games besides NES days. Is there something I am missing that it would use this technology? Maybe multi player?
@Pata-pwn(TM?): You might want to take another look at the official logo. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Mgs4us_cover.jpg
The last I saw of the Confrontation headset I thought it looked pretty cool.
@ Atheist Jew: I sadly agree.
@Pata-pwn(TM?):
Like Nitroid pointed out - those are part of the logo. It's not a bad photoshop.
Id kill for a xbox 360 wireless headset knockoff for ps3. I hope thats real. MGS style is just a bonus.
Reminds me of the vacuum robot from Mystery Science Theater 3000.
But with NOTHING TO LOSE
