Most Wiimote accessories are pitiful mockeries of the real thing. Cutesy, plastic tennis rackets don't make me feel like Andre Agassi. And the Wii Zapper doesn't make me feel like a Dirty Harry. But this Virtual Archery Bow by Thomas Foo is a full-blown bow made out of a full-blown bow. The only thing it's missing are the arrows...which we're thinking would put flying Wiimotes of yore to shame in a heartbeat. Here's a picture of the game he made for the peripheral, Trajectory:
There's no doubt—the Virtual Archery Bow is completely absurd. But it's almost poetic in its fanaticism. Is there something to be said for higher quality Wiimote accessories for the niche enthusiast?
As long as some people are willing to buy golf club extensions and tiny tennis rackets, why not just cut the foreplay, put a disclaimer on the package and offer the real thing?

oh golly ;_: .... still want one though :P
This is awesome!
This is the point where you buy a real bow and find a local archery range.
A little bit of work and that thing could be the fucking coolest peripheral EVER!
Yes i think it's so good i needed to swear.
The only thing it's lacking is exploding arrows.
=\
I'll say it right now. I'm getting fucking sick of these pointless fucking wii accessories.
When customers ask me about the wii gun and the golf clubs and shit.....ALWAYS let them know it's a useless piece of plastic that is meant to enhance your impeded imagination.
"...and it's relatively safe..."
Until idiots manage to poke their eye out on that end...then its "let's sue Nintendo!"
Looks cool, could actually see myself not trying this out :P
i odnt like how flimsy it seems i saw that shit felx out of shape when he used and one of the rubber bands pooped off
@ManjiKengo: I hear you, brother. I still facepalm when I remember that Nintendo have actually joined in with the Mario Kart wheel.
Do you sell those 15-Accessories packs where you work? The ones with the ridiculous things to go on the end of the remote. Some of the guns I've seen actually cover up the pointer on the end of the remote, so they're entirely useless for most gun-based games!
Haha that is awesome!
@BossMonk: Haha, seriously, especially if you need to actually buy a bow for this.
Archery is kick-ass, though, more people should get into it.
Just like the Perfect Shot, I'd buy this for the sheer awesome factor
I think I heard Legolas snicker.
They need a wii-mote chain saw... and a Evil Dead game to go with it
What is the point of this if it does not even have any analogue input?
It's just pulling the trigger with a rubber band...
If you're going to make full-blown, high quality accessories, why limit yourself by the Wii's inherent weaknesses? Simply take the Wiimote tech, install it into your own device, charge an extra $40, and use the power of the PS360. I can't imagine a Wiimote holder over $9.99 selling successfully to the Wii population (unless it comes from Nintendo).
Steel Battalion comes to mind in extravagant accessories. While badass, they're unlikely to be profitable. Might as well maximize that badass level with a game that doesn't hurt the eyes..
Im surprised the bow for the wiimote hasn't already appeared in a store near me as a cheap peace of plastic crap. Where is the Wiimote grenade launcher?
@Kazzahdrane: fucking wii sports packs.
I work at gamestop so of course we have a ton of useless shit for the wii.
lol for singlish
Thief on Wii.
NOW!
That's just cool! I'd want one in a heart beat.
Man, the Wii is way too digital for there to be any feeling in the interaction. Just like !sdrawkcab si x753z said, pulling back on the "string" just flicks a switch. Doesn't matter how hard or loose.
I feel weird saying this, but for the Wii to become interesting to me...it needs to get a bit more expensive.
@ManjiKengo: Well, the zapper did help me with my shaky hands.
@Hauler: Or poison tipped.
I'd buy it.
You know with some work it could definitely work out as a real accessory, first thing I would do would be to take off the arms of the bow and use a handle just like a real bow. Improve the pull back mechanism as that looks like it is just begging to either have a rubber band snap or poke someone in the eye. Fix those bits and you could have a really good peripheral.
Yes officer, I was aware of the possible repercussions of pointing the wiimote at my friend...
