Ah, Operation Darkness. A tactical RPG set in WWII. But with vampires and werewolves. Last time we saw it, I was getting a little down on it. The fact they were pretty rough trailers may have contributed. But this? This has revived my flagging spirits. Mostly because it's as cheesy as a triple-cheese sandwich with cheese for bread. And I do like cheese.

Nazis+WW2+plus mythical beasts could be a good game or a average show on the Sci-Fi channel.
I dunno still looks pretty rough to me...
If they didnt fix the camera angles and such theres going to be a lot of motion sick people.
Ive had this game since launch. I think it will only really do well with those hardcore enough to enjoy all the problems it has with the mechanics and such.
Still I enjoyed playing the game tho.
It looks very interesting. I'm not much for turn-based gameplay but at the same time, I grow weary from RTSs rather quickly. If they can find a good balance then the fact the letters R, P, and G are present in the genre description is almost enough to insure a buy for me as I'm starving for one at the moment. I'll follow this closely.
They had me until the skeletons rose from the ground.
It looked like a very cool take on a WWII game, "investigating the assassination of Adolf Hitler". Awesome.
The skeletons caught me by surprise, but I get it now. Very strange looking.
I'm afraid the game will never be published in Europe. At the very least i see it having a TONS of problems in germany due to the laws against the showing of nazi iconography.
It'd be just another case of european players getting the lower end of the shaft. *sighs*
I don't know why but this game just clicks with me. I really like the look of it and cheesiness is only ever a great thing.
Actually I guess I do know why; the werewolf soldiers, summoned skeletons and vampire generals. It's probably all of those things.
Maybe@Abriael: Maybe they can release the game codefree in the US.
Otherwise I agree with you it'll probably never make it to Europe.
@Abriael: I wonder why no-one does what Bionic Commando did in the day. On the other hand, fighting an epic battle against the "Badds" doesn't quite have the same ring to it.
This might be the reason why I buy an Xbox360. =/
Turn based Nazis? Sign me up.
@Channing: The J version one of the main characters was voiced by Snake.
I can only hope the US version will be region free...
@Witzbold:
I would like it very much if the English version had David Hayter. =3
Witz, how's the gameplay? Do you get to build your characters and choose abilities/points to be assigned to certain ones? I don't like tactics games that are really linear. It's why I could never do Fire Emblem and also why I've never finished my Super Robot Wars OG. It doens't feel like they give you a lot of control over how your characters progress. That is opposed to say, Front Mission (only played 1 and 4) or Final Fantasy Tactics, (FFTA, too) or NipponIchi games. Those I had a lot of fun with because you could make your team do whatever you felt like.
Well this certainly is better than the previous movie we were shown, you know with the huh, how should I put this politely... Enormous bosom?
I'll say, I'm semi-hyped again!
@Channing: Linear since basically the characters in the story remain the "class" they started as.
The only main diff is just more the weapons you get and what not, plus scavenging from the dead enemies helps get new stuff to use also.
@Witzbold: I dont mind the linear thing since its justified by the story itself.
woot!
I think it looks awesome! Like EDF 2017 awesome.
@Witzbold:
Mm, I see. Are there proficiency ratings with different weapons? When they level up do you have control over any stats or is it just a auto-point investment thing done by the computer?
I can't wait for this -- combining all my favorite genres into one tasty dessert is fantastic! I'm totally fine if it's linear and not the best combat engine, the story and setting carry it for me. Yay, Atlas!
@doobiwan: Hahhaah, well said. Oh man EDF 2017 was a sweet game. "Lookit me ma! Infinite ammo!" XD
@Prinnygeddon!: I believe some Atlus guy did confirm the US version of the game to be playable on PAL consoles...
Ok, so WW2, Werewolves, Vampires, Magic, Tanks, Bazookas and Grenades, and this is a tactical RPG? And its coming to my beloved 360? Hot DAMN! Where do I sign up???
Why is this on 360 again? Seriously looks like a PS2 game, and not even one of the nicer ps2 games.
When I started watching the video I was praying that I would see a werewolf uppercut a skeleton. And.... and now I can die happy, but not until I've played this game.
I remember some of those secret battles, like the commonly ignored battle of the buldgeinmyzombiepants, and the battle at Omagaditsawerewolf. And who can forget when the allied spider monkeys charged the beaches of Normallythishshitisn'ttaughinschools?
Sorry that was the charge at the beaches of Normallythisshitisn'ttaughtinschools.
I hate to be a dick, but why is this game on the 360? The console just plain isn't the right choice for this kind of game. The PS2 audience, that's who this game was made for. They should've just made it for the PS2. The graphics don't exactly look that great, anyway, I'd have taken a slight punch to the graphics to get this for my PS2.
Anyway, the game looks like it is right up my alley. I hope I'm wrong and I hope that if it's good it sells well, but somehow I think it'll just be a waste of Atlus' efforts.
I like the concept, sounds fun...but I friggen HATE the Japanese RPG format. I'm probably the only person in the world who feels this way, it's my cross to bear =P
Not enough enormous Nazi tumor boobs in this trailer.
why does it have CoD 1 quality graphics?
Why are people so concerned about graphics these days?!
My only concern is...I'd have loved this on the PSP. But, the more strategy, the better. Get a bit of variety on your plate, 360'ers!
That's an order, straight from Hitler...who looks like he's stumbling out from a frat party in the last moments of that trailer.
haaaaa remembering an old game to me , Feda the emblem of justice on my super famicom , turn based with humans/wolves characters.
god do miss thoses turn base games.
i just can't believe the same game studio who made Odin Sphere, created this game
It's getting harder to resist buying a 360. If only I had a little more disposable income these days.
Oh dear lord...I think I just saw me some panzer cops.
Atlus never seems to fail me in quirky games that I must play.
@foxwarrior88: That's because they didn't. VanillaWare and Atlus made Odin Sphere. Operation Darkness is developed by Success.
I'm buying it based on concept and also because I can finally play a Atlus strategy game on my 360. I will say the game looks like it was developed for last gen. Then again Nazi vampires and werewolves > not so great graphics.
@Zenian: Atlus had nothing to do with making the game. They are just the publisher in the US. It was originally developed and published by Success in Japan.
@Witzbold: Well, it came out in Japan a long time ago, right? Maybe they had time to fix that stuff.
I'm on the fence about this one. I love tactical RPGs, and a cheesy game with vampire Nazis and robot SS officers sounds hilarious, but I'm worried the gameplay won't be quite up to snuff. Maybe Atlus won't charge the full 60 dollars for it, they release games below standard price sometimes.
@Witzbold: Cooly cool. Did not know that.
Ok, the best part of the video has to be when the werewolf in the trenchcoat gut-punches the skeleton. Werewolf: Oh look, I got him in the breadbasket! Oh wait, . . . he doesn't have a breadbasket anymore - Why is he still falling down? And why am I wearing a trenchcoat? Why? Well, werewolves are less conspicuous in trenchcoats of course!
Go ahead if ya wanna waste ya savings but don,t be fooled!
THIS GAME SUCKS BAWLZ!
I,ve played it!
and so did the folks at g4

Looks good. Must watch. It's Atlus, so there's a good chance it's freakin' awesome.
What's not to love here?
Looks really bad, but might be fun :)
I once had a friend who was obsessed with roleplaying Vampire of the Masquerade or whatever that pen and paper horse shit is, and I quickly learned that collaborating with him to get anything in the real world done was a mistake.
Clearly someone similar is involved in this game's development.
It does look mildly interesting...but it doesn't quite look polished enough. I think I'll hold out on this one.
WHAT THE HELL????!?!?!?!?!?!?! Looks kinda goofy to me but oddly intriguing also!!!!!!!
