Some cheeky posters over on the PS3news forums have allegedly found a way for you to download version 1.00 of Home, which going by that lovely round figure should be the build that's used for the upcoming public beta. Any possible celebrations regarding this news will begin with news that downloading the file's fairly easy, and end with the news that you can only install the program, not boot it up (no functioning servers yet, you see). Could be the latest example of CRT-TV photoshoppery, but is more likely the latest sign that the beta, which has been promised as hitting "very soon", will be hitting "very soon".
PlayStation@Home working! (but you can't play) [PS3NEWS, thanks Chris81!]

I'm in the private beta. Looking forward to having all of my friends in home too.
Good sign if true
I want its! I want its badly!
@jeffram: I am too. But most of the functionality that has been promised isn't implemented yet. Hopefully the Warhawk planning rooms will be working.
For everybody who will be using it for the first time: Don't expect a revelation. Expect a lot of annoying people standing around making annoying noises. And people quitting bowling and chess when they start to lose.
So in conclusion: Home public beta coming 'very, very soony'
@jeffram: @AverageJoes: Same here. and I think that there will probably be a HUGE update to download the first time we try to log into Home after the Playstation Store gets its facelift. Oh, and yeah, to those who have not yet experienced home? Get used to a bunch of dancing cockpunches standing in the way while you're trying to do shit.
Epic shrug.
Build me up just to shoot me down
i wonder if it will be included in the next update or the playstation store update
Here's a homebrew version of Home, Second Life.
I'm quite excited about this. Can't wait to try it. Hope it's REALLY soon.
If Home turns out the way I imagine it, I'll get a PS3 during the Holidays....
Until then, more waiting fools!
@TitillatedOcelot: Wow that sounds....crappy....I guess thats why its a beta though so they can fix all the bugs....even though thats not a bug....
well then, it seems that we will be getting the beta soon as promised! at least i hope so.
word. if the public beta were to come with new psn redesign, that would be awesome. i hope the psn gets jam packed with new stuff on its return.
Nice
Clearly this isn't the Home download as it's not 5 GB which is mandatory to play anything of the hard drive on a PS3... I keed, I keed....
*sigh*
I really do wonder why it's so lite. I know they're going for the emo-minimalist look but I can't remember the last time I saw a download so small. Maybe they are going the browser model where you cache as you visit new places. That's going to present some interesting experiences. Can't wait to hear more about this.
@okenny :): It's just a client for a virtual chat city. It can't be HUGE.
How can a file be created when the creation date hasn't even reached existance yet?
I believe that this person has gone into the future and downloaded the program and took the HDD from the PS3.
Allegedly? We were working on this non-stop Monday night trying to find a way to get onto the servers.
Really, are the videos and words of all the people in that thread not proof enough that this really happened? Kotaku loves to post utter shit, but when stuff really happens, it's gotta be tagged as a rumor.
@Ashurahori: It has bowling though. :D
I'll still believe it when I see it. I've been jerked around to much with this program to believe it any time soon until I am actually playing it.
@Sailorcancer: dude... april 6th... not june 4th :P
Damn... $5 that sony announces the beta tomorrow :D
Is it just me or does the file size seems to be a little bit small for teh "Home." BUT nonetheless, Home is Home and I need a house, I hate having to live in a fort with paper blankets and rotting bread for pillows.
@TrIxX: You can come into Kotaku fort for now while we wait.
D'oh
@TitillatedOcelot: That sounds awesome. It sounds like Home is just more than a meeting place, it's also like Dead Rising with dancers for zombies.
Where is the internet when you need it. I mean, this should be cracked by now.
i hope psn doesnt crash from the amount of traffic like xbl did during the holidays
what is the point of downloading the home file if you can't access the servers? I mean, am I missing something here? Why are people getting excited about downloading a file they can't even use? It's great that this hints at an upcoming open beta, but I'm really confused why people are clamoring for instructions on how to download this file.
@TitillatedOcelot: Thanks for the warning!
It's unfortunate how some people always seem to ruin the fun for others online. There are idiots all over the internet, and it was obvious they would also invade the Home environment. Still, I had decided to ignore that until now, to prevent me from losing interest into this otherwise interesting interface.
I guess I'll see you there anyway, while walking around and looking for people who don't swear at others and don't practice the unavoidable equivalent of teabagging on strangers in Home.
hahaha wow ... there is no point to have home and not be able to use it ...
maybe because the servers may go up days before the open beta is actually launched?
@Kaneda: Yeah, it certainly isn't all of what's in there. I was in it from the beginning, and it has seen more than one total overhaul. While I'm bound by the NDA, I will say that it looks amazing, there is a lot to do already, and that I can't wait to see the place filled to the brim with people. There is a lot to enjoy in Home, and I think that a lot of it can get even better with more people using it. Right now, we're just basically searching it for glitches, but the social aspects of it won't really be revealed until the big doors open on it for everyone else.
Looking forward to seeing you all!
The original launch date for home was some time last year, wasn't it? I can't wait but, there's no sense in getting worked up about it. It's gonna be free when it releases so, whatever. There are more important things(with solid release dates) to get worked up about like, GT5P and GTA IV! :)
yes!!!
Oh, and once everyone does get on, feel free to look me up!
PSN ID: Ninjaball
@pot3ntial2suck:
Uh, Sony isn't exactly advertising this download. People found a way to access it. It's essentially a workaround that shouldn't have been found out
@TitillatedOcelot: Good stuff. I'm certainly looking forward to it. It will be interesting to see what kind of dynamics will be established between users.
I just hope it lives up to the hype.
Isn't 1.00 generally used as, like the finished version of something? Usually a beta is .99 or below.
Its works! With Video! [www.ps3news.com]
Hmmm definitely needs moar cake.
@dowingba: You know they might be done and they're just setting up servers now.
I just came. :)
Kinda like how the PS3 can be bought but not played?
