Never mind that Sega's crack legal team already confirmed Sonic Unleashed, Official Nintendo Magazine (UK) has a world exclusive! The Wii game will be out this winter, use the Wii-mote and Nunchuk, but won't have online, it seems. Fair enough, the game seems like an old school Sega platformer — a good thing. Says the game's lead designer, Yoshihisa Hashimoto:
In our minds, this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series. It has no relation to Sonic the Hedgehog [the 360/PS3 game] or Sonice And The Secret Rings... We wanted Sonic fans to love Sonic even more. Also, for people who are not familiar with Sonic, we think that this will be a great way to introduce them to Sonic The Hedgehog.THANK GAWD. The game is supposedly being developed internally by Team Sonic (and not by a buncha devs all across North America and Europe), and it does feature this possibly worrying element: During the daytime, the game is regular speed-based Sonic ramps and loops and rails. But! At night, Sonic's hairy alter ego (oh dear) comes out, and the game play changes to monkey-like swinging and obstacle manipulation. Well, at least it's better than human kissing. Never forget!
Thanks, Joe for the tip!

Those graphics really can't be for the Wii, can they?
The article sure made it sound like they were.
What are Sonice games?
Cool, I never liked one 3d Sonic game they've put out. Either too generic-y, too much shitacular music, gameplay and dialogue, or gay characters. And the voice acting, blegh
A good Sonic game? At this time? This I've gotta see.
This game is looking better and better all the time.
"In our minds, this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series."
Me likes.
Hopefully it won't be a dissapointment :p
Sonice, Sonic's female doppleganger from the Mirror Universe! Nooooooo!
I love starting my day with bad spelling, especially when its in a headline =P
No relation to sonic and the secret rings? The only good recent 3d sonic game and you wish to distance yourselves? well okay I suppose..... but wait they say nothing at all about no relation to SHADOW! NOOOOOOO!
"So nice! It's a-me, Mario!"
But seriously, why are they taking cues from even Sonic Adventure? Sure, there were a couple neat stages (for a decade ago), but it doesn't stack up overall today.
@jkingsowner: Yes the 3-d games did indeed get old after a while, but some of the music is a guilty pleasure.
Yeah, you know the one...
♬ Follow me, set me free,
Trust me and we will escape from the city! ♬
Arghh, it's in my head forever now.
(P.S Was the song in Smash and if it wasn't WHY THE HELL NOT?)
"Never mind that Sega's crack legal team already confirmed Sonic Unleashed, Official Nintendo Magazine (UK) has a world exclusive!"
Actual info on the game? As in, real facts? And a proper interview with one of the blokes making it? Announcement or not, that sounds like an exclusive to me. You don't see anyone else with that information, do you?
Silly Bashcraft.
3d killed him...
Please let him R.I.P
Monkey swinging? Here i thought the more rings sonic starts to carry the stronger he gets until he gets so many that the "ring rage" takes over him and he starts using his MMA skills to kick ass. Now I guess i have to set my bar lower.
if its anything closer to the original Sonic Adventure, i have no qualms. that game was AWESOME
Don't they say this before every single new Sonic release, and they all end up being mediocre as hell? I am just not buying this "oh, it's nothing like the last Sonic game" stuff anymore unless it comes out and is actually good.
"In our minds, this game will have more in common with the older Sonic Adventure series."
Haven't they said this during the development of every Sonic game in recent history? Sonic the Hedgehog was meant to return the series to its roots when it was first announced, and we all know how that ended up.
@Ryumeka: It's probably a 'target render' aka 'we took the screenshot from the 360 version and hoped nobody would notice'.
Anyway, let's see whether it sucks or not. (Given that it's not a Wii exclusive, the chance of the Wii version sucking is rather higher than the others, imo, regardless of the obviously-less-pretty graphics... but if it's really really really being made in house then that's a huge plus. If.)
@Dr.Chocobo: Hold me!
PS: Nope. Blame Snake's dialogue XD
Gotta love that Sonice and the Secret Rings and the new Sonic Unleased. No one will give that hedgehog a lease! He just goes to darn fast!
Seriously, Kotaku, proofread it... It's not that hard...
Sonic Team is making this.
That should be a deterrent to anybody with at least one lick of sense.
Also, every 3D Sonic title is supposed to be the second coming of Sonic. Be warned.
Sonice?!?!?
Okay, so Sonic Team is making this. They were also the ones making Sonic The Hedgehog for the 360/PS3.
WHY couldn't it be the outsourced european/american devs?
Yae Bashcrft hwo dare yuo spel somthing wrng! im prfect and nevr mkae mstakes!
Why does everybody think Kotaku made a spelling mistake? The guy in the quote said it - Kotaku made fun. Or is it beyond you all to laugh once in a while??
I won't hold my breath due to Sonic Team's track record of internal games but then again I am a huge Sonic fan. I'll end up playing it regardless of how good or bad it is.
Er... aren't these the exact same assurances they were making about the most recent Sonic the Hedgehog?
They say this every god damn time..
Still misspelled "Unleashed" in the headline and "Sonic" in the pull quote.
Much love!
I've been saying they needed to go back to the Sonic Adventure days for a long time & praying they would listen.
Now, if they just make Super Shadow's fur silver & red again, everything will be as it was meant to be
I love how ONM neglects to point out that those screens are obviously from the 360/PS3 version of the game. They comment the images like they're from the Wii version.
Also, wasn't Sonic the Hedgehog 360/PS3 a sequel to the adventure series of sorts? And Sonic and the Secret Rings had nothing to do with any of the other Sonic games, and it definitely wasn't one of the shit Sonic games.
In any case, it looks like the story will be totally original and have nothing to with any of the Sonic games, even though they say they relate it to the Sonic Adventure games. I think that's just them trying to relate it to the last highly praised Sonic games.
Typos are like zombies, for every one you kill, another rises to take its place.
Unleased?
They're basically admitting that all the Sonic games since Adventure sucked ass. Here's how it reads to me:
"It won't be like that broken 360 game I swears it!"
"Then why the fuck did you release the broken 360 game?"
@quen: Then it's pretty stupid of them to say how lovely the graphics look when it might look completely different. I'd say those graphics are possible, look at Galaxy, but even Galaxy had a heck load of jaggies (while these don't).
Sonic Unleased? What, did he get kicked out of his apartment or something?
Meh. For me they'd have to change Eggman's name back to Robotnik, give Sonic back his old chubster design, take away all the crappy characters.
so, does Sonic have any shitty friends in this? I mean the exception would be Tails and Knuckles of course.
You know? I could live with that. Give me some knuckles and I'll be happy.
the night time werewolf thing is cool with me as long as sonic's crappy friends aren't there, with the exception of Tails and Knuckles(the original characters from the good ol days).
@Homard: exactly. Which is why I expect it to be craptastic. Sonic is dead unless he's in SSBB. Otherwise, it's over for that franchise. Sega isn't too far behind really. the ONLY game they've released in recent memory that's been 7 shades of awesome is VF5. How do can a company fuck up Shinobi, Sonic, Gun Valkyrie, Sega Rally AND Phantasy Star? Most in the same generation.
It's a rap.
I liked Sonic Adventure on the Dreamcast. I haven't played much of any of the later games, but none of them sound good. I hope this one turns out well. It's looking good so far.
I'm reaaaaally hoping this is good, but won't be surprised if it just sucks.
What a horrible night to have a curse.
Sonic Team ALWAYS says, "This game is nothing like the last, it will be awesome!" And EVERY time it's nothing but PR spin and lies. They lost their edge a long time ago and I've got nothing left for them.
In my ever so humble opinion Team Sonic's day has long, LONG since past.
I don't get this...
"The Wii game will be out this winter, use the Wii-mote and Nunchuk, {but won't have online}..."
Since when was online EVER a standard feature of ANY sonic game? What would you even use it for? And WHY for the love of god does everyone seem to think that any form of online "play" makes a game better?
Maybe it's just me that doesn't get it--sometimes online is just useless, like in the case of Trauma Center: New Blood. Yes, it's cool to gloat and be like "YAY, I AM THE GREATEST" but really, it's a feature that doesn't change the game, either way. I don't mind it, but I wouldn't miss it either.
So, my question is, what online capabilities would have been expected from this?
UhOh. he said the "Adventure" word. Adventure in the Sonic universe means Suck. No questions asked.
Don't beleive me? play Sonic Rush, then Play Sonic Rush Adventure.
As long as they make it like Sonic Adventure 1 and not 2, I'm happy. Whoever made the levels/plot/extra characters for 2 was an idiot.
@Siegeman: Adventure 2 was good. Not the plot or some of the characters (Rogue...yeah) but the gameplay was good. Or maybe I was naive. I did love those Chao (or whatever they were) gardens though.
@Siegeman: Adventure 2 was good, or maybe I was just naive. The Chow(or whatever they were) garden was awesome though.
The daytime/nighttime aspect actually sounds interesting if they do it right. It'd also be nice to see the return of Chao Gardens. There's something oddly satisfying in watching Chao acquire cute traits by devouring adorable animals.
...And I really hope Shadow doesn't show up this time. Damn it, he should've stayed dead after Adventure 2!
unleased? how can you not fix a typo in the title of the article. whatever, its not like you get paid to write this stuff. oh wait...
That's all well and good, but the whole werewolf thing turns me off like you can't imagine.
@Dr.Chocobo: It's not and I don't know why. They have quite a collection, though.
I have confidence in Sonic Team to make this a good Sonic game.
First Sega wanted to bring Sonic to the next generation with Sonic Next, but the game ended up getting lacerated by damn near every critic in the gaming press.
Then Sega decided that 2.5D stuff in the Sonic Rivals games for the PSP was received decently and would probably work well for Sonic Unleashed, but any mere mention of anything having to do with werewolves has already scared people away.
They j
