Atlus just sent over this batch of fresh new R-Type Command screens. R-Type Command is set to hit the Playstation Portable on May 6, but you can grab a demo (which includes a taste of ad-hoc multiplayer) for free on the PSN store. I don't know if it's a good idea for me to own an R-Type on a system that I can easily either throw through a window or smash on the ground. Not that, that would happen, but it is R-Type.

Beleive me...this rtype is nothing like the ones you are used to. I tried to play it last night. No torials or anything...or at least I didn't find it. I got frustrated...like all card/turn based game. Now I did like front mission for the ps2...the only turned based game I attempt to play.
@nxp3: Did it come with a manual? Did you RTFM?
@nxp3:
Yeah,I was thinking the demo was going to be a shooter.Haven't played it since.
ninja...dude this is a download demo...there's no manual.
I managed to get through the demo. Pretty good. I'm not into turn-based strategy but I give them props for coming up with this take on the series.
I played the demo that is available for download off the PS3 PSN and really liked it.
Much, much, much better then Field Commander.
And, yes there were limited instructions under the main menu.
I'll be looking to buy it when it comes out.
I may have to get a psp for this. With how many ships were in R-Type Final it's nice to see them expanding the universe further.
Is it possible for me to connect my psp to the ps3 via USB and download the demo? I don't have a wireless router at the moment.
You download the demo on your PS3 via the PSN. Then transfer it to the PSP via the USB cable.
Pretty simple.
WTF!? Why isn't this available for XBL?
This looks really interesting to me, I like titles like Disgaea and PC strategy stuff like 4x space games. Someday I'll pick up a PSP2000 and grab this.
@Tuxy79: Because the X360 sucks? (Ducking for cover)
I'm a sucker for turn-based strategies on consoles... but this somehow I didn't stand for 5 minutes. Maybe the clash with my expectations was too severe. Might try the demo again some time.
Btw, there is a manual attached to the demo :P . It's only that it's too brief - 2 pages, one being a poster.
@nxp3: Sorry, you're right, of course! I should avoid commenting when I'm not paying attention -_-;
@firelogic: Yes it is...but you have to download the game to your ps3 first. Do you connect your ps3 directly to a dsl line or cable modem?...you should really invest in a router for security reasons.
@t0yrobo: R-Type Final is great. I whipped it out and played it on the ps3, on my hdtv. damn it was sweet. i need to check this demo and see if its my cup of tea.
@zanzibarlegend: I'm with you on that one :) still hard as hell though.
Sorry Brian but this isn't R-Type any more than Metroid Pinball is a Metroid game.
@DigiMish: indeed. i miss the days of tough as nail "shoot em ups". i wish they would do a sequel to R-Type Final, on the PS3. that would be sick as heck.
@mariospants: They've been deviating from the whole shmup scene (shmups have gone anime-style and ridiculous over the years in japan and R-Type just doesn't have a home in the arcades anymore), that's why R-Type Final was "Final". Basically they've developed a whole back story of some SciFI war and have a complete offering of over one hundred ships that they'd like more to do with than is possible in a simple side-scrolling shmup.
I wouldn't be surprised to see an Eve Online knock-off MMO. I'd pay $15/month for that.
@mariospants: That makes me sad. I loved the original R-Type. Why did they have to ruin the awesome?
