Next week, April 15, Halo 3 gamers will be soaking in new, Bungie-created downloadable content, a moisturizing formula of Ghost Town, Avalanche and Blackout. Just imagine the slurs you can toss out in these new environments! I can't promise these 27 screen shots of the new Legendary Map Pack will convince you to drop the Microsoft Points on new multiplayer arenas, but I'm pretty sure fans of scaffolding and planks will be pretty darn excited to lay their rods and cones on this pic. Simply stunning in its plank-ticity.

I cant wait!
Your mom is legendary.
Ha! I used it first! Now you can't use it on xboxlive!
Man I'm so smart....
Honestly, I'm impressed with the Legendary Pack, the new forge content (AWESOME filters) + some actually interesting maps means a purchase from me, unlike the Heroic map pack, which is crap.
I gave into buying the first map pack right before they made it free, and I can never get my friends to play any of the new maps, so I'm not so sure that I want to shell out the cash for this expansion.
legendary Halo pictures are legendary
sorry i had to do that.
lookin forward to it.
Ok those look pretty Legendary all right....
Been away from Halo in favour of COD4, but this might get me back into it. But then again I still haven't mastered the new COD4 maps. Spoilt for choice.
I'm hesitant to drop 800 MS points on this. However, seeing that there aren't any current plans to release them for free, I guess I have no choice.
Look at the Bungie people, flashing their flaming helmet and Recon Armor they know we can't have.
Curse you, Bungie.
Plywoodarrific! Balsational! Parquetastic! Two-by-Fabulous!
That's all I got. Will be downloading.
Wait, is this the pack with the Sidewinder remake?
Count me in then!
Lol, McWhertor is serving it up extra smarmy tonight.
I dig it.
@Marios_shadow: Yeah, I can see the whole flaming head being reserved (over abuse of it would be awful) but the recon armor is a big kick in the nuts to Halo fans.
So are these new maps or just remakes of old ones? I'm thinking the latter, but I could be wrong.
Yawn.
@enewtabie:
The SideWinder map Avalanche is a reimangined version
Blackout is a straight up Lockout remake
Ghost Town is new.
@Iceking5: Not really. I like the way that Bungie gives out Recon to people who do special stuff in the community. It makes the helmet available to the public, but still rare, which preserves its coolness.
@Iceking5: ugh. yes it is. Handing out recon armor only to a select few...and having recon variants constantly referred to in the variant descriptions is a big kick in the pants.
umm... any word on when these maps will be free?
@XWonka: Free LOL. Well they CAN be free now, for the mere price of....your SOUL. Pay Daddy Gates.
@Otacon91: ballmer. Not gates. gates doesn't fucking work for microsoft anymore.
@Otacon91: Guy living under a rock is Guy and living under rock.
Dam just one more week! it's so hard to wait and contain myself,i want them bad!
@XWonka: A couple weeks before the next map pack...or about another 4 months.
@AnEternalEnigma: Thanks, that was a meaningful contribution.
The Lockout remake map doesn't do anything for me, but damn does that Sidewinder one look good. I can see a lot of vetoing going on to get that map to come up in the DLC playlist.
Ghost Town...not sure what to think, yet. I think it's one that will have to prove its worth through use.
@AnEternalEnigma: Then why are you here hater? jealous...
it pleases me that you used a "rods and cones" reference there. i swear, i felt much better about human evolution for a second.
@TalAarahk: I don't like them holding any of it back. Making the stuff exclusive when everyone paid for the game is bull. They could have different achievements to meet or special tasks to complete like they did w/the Hayabusa armor, but everyone should have the ability to attain both of them if they put in the effort. They're just on a power trip, and I'm glad IW has knocked them down a peg.
@Spartan1308: You're glad IW knocked them down a peg because you didn't get a spiffy helmet? Do you get pissed at GM's in an MMO because they have a Ring of God Mode?
We had some good times playing CTF on Lockout.
@Captain Impulse: MMOs are trash. In my opinion.
@Spartan1308: They could have just NOT made it and not had any incentive or bonus for fans. If everyone had it, you wouldn't want it. Hayabusa, Hayabusa...is this thing on?
@Spartan1308: Opinion aside, the analogy still stands, does it not?
I need to get back into playing Halo3 (with the voicechat off).
@KindaGamey: I don't see how the mention of "rods and cones" makes you feel better about human evolution. Any 'ol nut can be taught what "rods and cones" are and how they play an integral role in ocular organs. Shall I start referring to my nose as my olfactory appendage? My fingers as apoptosis-shaped differentiated limbs?
Has Bungie confirmed whether these maps will become free anytime soon?
I really want to play them in matchmaking, they look like a blast!!! Especially since Lockout was one of my favourite maps in Halo 2. When I saw the remake of Zanzibar, I really wanted a remake of many Halo 2 maps, especially Lockout... I hope we will get more over the years that Halo lives on.
@Captain Impulse: I don't like MMOs, and I wouldn't like it if people from the company or "friends" of the company were running around w/special powers. I'm not questioning your analogy. I'm saying I don't like that sort of crap. There are plenty of other reasons I don't like MMOs.
@Spartan1308: I think anyone can get the recon armor, you just need to do stuff outside the game on Bungie.net. Or do crazy stuff in the game and send it to Bungie.
Anyway, what did IW do to knock Halo down a peg? Aside from the different game mechanics, they don't even allow visual customization in COD4. I think your get-up is completely dependent on the primary weapon. IW didn't put any effort into that area.
@Spartan1308: I don't play any MMOs currently, but I have played a few, and they've all run their course for me. The biggest thrill I get from MMOs is having an expansive world that rewards you for exploration. WoW didn't really do it for me, because the quests always seemed to send you in a linear progression of zones, and the only places of interest were places were quests would lead you.
Sadly, since Everquest I, the only games that has have had any rewarding degree of exploration (to me) have been the Elder Scrolls games.
Whoa. /tangent
I understand what you mean if it was Bungie passing out special crap to their friends, but that's not the case here. They've rewarded certain gamers with prizes for doing stupid crap like sniping yourself in the head. Think of them as virtual trophies rather that something you're missing out on. Maybe it'll sting less then.
@Captain Impulse: I shoud-a known. Thanks.
@Xiedo: He's referring to the fact that Call of Duty 4 has more people playing online than Halo 3. Apparently that constitutes sticking it to Bungie.
I paid for the first map pack when it came out. Then never really got to play on the maps because I'm a big team slayer fan, and none of the DLC playlists were pure slayer, and they hardly came up in the rotation for team slayer because not enough people had the maps. And even then, two of the maps were "too big" for slayer.
/not to mention DLC was unranked
That's a nice plank...
@Xiedo: IW made a better game with balanced weapons, and now more people play it. I wasn't actually referring to customizations, but now that you mention it there are tons of perks and weapon customizations including golden weapons which everyone has access to as long as they complete certain tasks. Not just "friends" of IW and people who somehow shoot themselves in the head.
@Captain Impulse: A lot of the "stupid crap" isn't on purpose. A trophy is something to earn, these people aren't earning anything if "stupid crap" just happens. I just don't like the special privileges thing, and I'd be surprised if some "friends" of Bungie haven't been given these special privileges just like they were given the ability to play the game itself before everyone else. It happens. I don't like it. I can't change it. I don't play H3 much now anyway, so I don't really think about it much. Someone here brought it up so I threw in my two cents.
@Spartan1308: Just have to correct you on a thing or two... IW made a more instagiby game. And I'd expect weapons to be balanced considering they are all spawn-ready.
OK, continue fanboyism.
sold
@Xiedo: Is this what you were going for with "instagiby" or was it a typo?
[en.wikipedia.org]
Snipers can kill with one shot from a great distance, but otherwise that really isn't the case. Snipers don't rule in COD4 generally b/c other weapons can be used to counter them and there is plenty of cover. That isn't the case in a game of Halo 3 on a place like Valhalla where there sn't much cover and snipers or spartan laser carriers can destroy pretty much anything else. Spawn-ready or not, the weapons in H3 need some serious work. They nerfed the crap out of vehicles but snipers and spartan lasers are ridiculously powerful and capable of huge distances. In addition to that, everyone starts w/the crappy AR in most games so the first guys to grab the BRs already have a huge advantage. And seriously, you're going to pull the "fanboyism" card when my screenname on a video game focused website is "Spartan"1308. Gee, I wonder where the "Spartan" part came from. I'm not saying I don't like Halo. I'm saying COD4 multiplayer is much better in my opinion in large part due to the balancing of weapons. I probably spent more time playing H2 than you've spent playing all video games in the past 5 years so don't try to paint me as some sort of anti-Halo fanatic.
Seriously, if that wikipedia article is what you meant by "instagiby" you're way off. H3 has a crazy amount of shielding, too much I would say. COD4 is by no means an insta-death game though. If you are decently skilled, you can often escape death or turn the tables and kill your attacker.
As a Halo 2 fanboy, these maps have the thought of being just plain awesome. The problem is that I'll be playing these "favorite" Halo maps in Halo 3.
The gameplay in Halo 3 is just a bonerkill. I'll wait until these are free, just like the last ones.
Can't wait to have these maps...
...for free.
The more I see these maps, the more I want them. Bungie really knows how to impress me, and I have begun to crave playing Halo again...it is probably why I'm looking for Halo 2 PC as cheap as possible(strapped for cash this month).
Halo2 is always best seller above Halo 3 :D
