Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li dropkicks an official movie blog. The first update provides a full cast list as well as info about the director ("Relax, you're in good hands"), actor Michael Clarke Duncan ("...this mand does ALL HIS OWN STUNTS...") and cockteasing about who will play GEN ("our first official scoop"). Though, I'm confused, how can the movie's official blog have a scoop? Should that be "first official press release"?
The blog does have some movie storyboards from artist Ted Boonthanakit. There's shooting and running. Don't remember shooting and running from the Street Fighter games, but whatever! Hit the jump for a look.

hmmmm ... pics could use more thigh...
WTF the blog asks for a password.
What? [streetfightermovie.net] is asking me for a username and password to enter...
So Kristen Kreuk is Chun Li eh? She's beautiful, but does she have the thigh for Chun Li? =]
@Kprimed: @dagooh:
I'd recommend using the following:
Username: YOGA
Password: FLAME
(teeheehee)
Commence laser dodgin'!
@Kprimed: @dagooh: Yea, maybe they're performing maintenance or adding more "scoops" and is temp. restricting access? Yea, I'm getting the same message too..
Hopefully it's better than this:

Hey, it's necessary.
HOORAY COMIC SANS! Best font ever! So jovial! So casual! So light hearted! Nothing says greatness like Comic Sans!
@amost: Your right, where is the thighs?! Hopefully this doesn't burn along side the DBZ movie.
@awwyeadatsright: I pray this is sarcasm, dear sir.
These storyboards remind me of the Malibu SF comics, which no good can come of.
@Erwin:
That single clip alone is better and far more faithful to the original source than 95% of all game-based movies.
The big question everyone is going to be asking is: Will it be better than Leprechan in the Hood? (friends and me watched it for reasons I can never be entirely sure of)
Seriously though, Im kind of at the point where I doubt even a perfect game with a rich story can be turned into a good movie by modern hollywood so for a game with no real story other than a bunch of strange people got together to smack each other around really stand a chance?
Or have we forgotten that this has been tried before?

Yah, they obviously don't want the traffic you just generated for them :)
im not sure about this =/
I actually think this movie is going to turn out pretty decent. It's not going to win any awards, well maybe the MTV ones (Hottest female hero? Best fight scene?) but it's going to surprise a lot of people. From what I've read the movie is just Chun Li looking for revenge with straight up street fighting. There aren't going to be any Claw Dives, Psycho Crushers, Kikoukens, Spinning Bird Kicks or Balrog saying lines like "I got paid."
If I could compare this movie to a recent, and successful film, I'd have to say Kill Bill. Minus the over the top violence and Tarantino dialogue.
That might cause series fans to say the movie has nothing to do with the games, but using this approach certainly appeals to movie/non-SF audiences.
I was worried there would not be enough Harbor Rumbles! Thank God this isn't another movie that just takes a video games name and characters, then throws the rest of the stuff out the window and do what ever the fuck they want with it.
blind people with guns again?
@Erwin: how come i've never seen that before?! that's frickn' sweet!
@kw4k: i'm a huge jackie fan too :\
Kristin Kreuk... Yay. And oh yeah, nice site. I wish I could draw storyboards.
For thigh questions refer to (potentially NSFW?): [farm1.static.flickr.com]
@amost: They're just storyboards. They don't represent the look at all, just motion. If it got bogged down in detail it wouldn't serve the same purpose.
Although I, too, worry. Her thighs draw too much ire and misogyny among fanboys and all unthinking frat boys. They couldn't very well sell a movie with a woman who actually looked like she could throw a man against a wall or break his spine with a single spin kick. Those muscles make her look "fat."
I look forward to a lackluster movie about a runway model who has the inexplicable power to dodge bullets.
Honestly, if I were fifteen, I might be excited.
@king_e_dawg: methinks a good guess, noble gent.
ahh the stormtrooper effect...
"Chun Li turns, bullets flying all around her."
Yeah this movie already fails.
Brian, what do you mean you don't remember that in the games?
You're not saying you want a SF movie where the characters only move left and right do you?
@dowingba: I second that...
@Aflack: Likes slushies: That would be awesome! And they could make it so Chun Li could "wall jump" off the side of the screen.
That would honestly be a movie worth watching.
I liked the original SF movie. It's great to laugh at, if nothing else. Yeah, everything about it was ass, but that's why it's so great.
I do want to see this one though, if only because I like Michael Clarke Duncan.
This movie will fail for many reasons, but the one that came to mind first: the perfect Bison died 14 years ago.
Yet the perfect "guile" lives
@MisterSleep: John Candy? :P
@MisterSleep: Chris Farley?!
@ShaggE, dowingba: Haha, oh god, what an image!
@MisterSleep: @Pornosaur:I actually think the actor casted to play Vega from the first SF was pretty good. He resembled Vega more than Taboo who certainly doesn't look like a narcissistic Spaniard.
The costume doesn't look too Chun Li'ish.
Also, Pat Morita would have been the Perfect Gen. Wax on, wax off Mr. Miyagi, rest in peace.
@Pornosaur: sadly, yes. Makes me think of an old sketch for a now-abandoned blog, about "Guile's" future film career: [bp1.blogger.com]
@ShaggE, @Erwin: actually, I was thinking Hervé Villechaize. I was off by a year.
@MisterSleep: hm, image didn't work. Probably just as well. One more shot: [img525.imageshack.us]
@Erwin: Bad part is, the second I typed that, I pictured him doing a Psycho Crusher... it was all I could do to keep from falling down in laughter.
My sense of humor is truly fucked up. :P
@ShaggE: I would pay $10, maybe even $12, to see that.
@dowingba: I'd pay $12 to see Farley in Bison's little coat.
@dowingba: Especially if he has this expression on his face while doing it: [roswell.tobaccodocuments.org]
we need THUNDER THIGHS!!!! THIS FAILS no bullet running please...this isn't a effin' wachowski film.
but it will probably be anyways. if people can make Speed Racer look like the most dramatic piece of action this side of the Matrix. im sure we got chun li running away from bullets.
what's next?
Balrog's gonna.....-chokes- k..ick??
@maverickudo: Or Zangief will... *gurgle* not be incredibly ch-cheap?
Ugh, is Comic Sans the best font this artist actually had in his inventory?
@dowingba: lol but most dire: dah-ble somersault!
@TruPhan: Isn't something like this, the one and only proper use of Comic Sans? I mean, I know it's because the most hated font in the history of the written word but for a storyboard or...comic... I'm sure it'll be fine.
Yeah... Chun Li dodging bullets...
Totally streetfighter.
@TruPhan: Seeing the context, it is entirely appropriate.
That storyboard is seriously lacking. Its cumulative of Film 101 and regurgitated.
Good thing Chun-Li can dodge hails of bullets.
is that the comic sans font I see there?
nooooooo
@Erwin: I can't believe you just exposed my dear little eyes to that. I've seen German porn less scary than Jackie Chan playing CHUN LI!
@Erwin:
HAHAHA BEST THING EVER SHOT ON FILM
Danmaku Chun?
well it's off to a horrible start
@Skaffa: @kw4k: that clip is from City Hunter, not too bad a flick, if only for the embedded scene ^^ [www.imdb.com]
As far as I'm concerned, there's only ever been one video game movie that's actually been good AND stayed true to its source-material.......
MORTAAAAAAAAAAAAAL KOMBAAAAAAAAAAAAAT!!!!!!!!!
FIGHT!
@meleeblub: That depends on how you look at it. They toned down the violence so much... But the soundtrack rocked, and it is a good movie.
True eastx - that rocking soundtrack almost made me forget that sub zero didn't pull any heads off of people (with spine still attached!)
Comic sans? Sick motherfuckers.
@Bernard McGraw: ahaha!
Because nothing says professional like Comic Sans!
