Nine-year-old Kieran Price is the latest victim in a brutal Xbox 360 signature erasing spree from Microsoft's repairs department. According to the Nottingham Evening Post, the traumatized Kieran had a handful of signatures from WWE wrestlers removed from his Xbox 360 when it was sent in for repairs, despite mother Janet being told that they would remain intact. Autographs from John Cena and Michelle McCool, as well as an unspecified amount of bronzer were removed during service.
Microsoft has apparently planned to do right by the boy with the help of the World Wrestling Entertainment, gifting Kieran a free 360 game and getting mother and son backstage passes to an upcoming WWE event where the boy will receive an authentic piledriver. Exciting! Hopefully, Kieran will reclaim his old signatures and these dream-crushing maniacs obsessed with cleanliness will be stopped before they strike again.

Oh boy.
why do people would his 360 be signed by wrestlers i can understand the bungie guys but wrestlers???
I'm gonna get my friend to sign my 360, send it in for repairs, claim it was signed by some awesome star, then wait for Microsoft to send me a free 360 and a bunch of free stuff.
At this point it's fail proof.
At least it wasn't signed by anyone interesting.
What kind of vindictive bastard would do something like that?
Okay Guys--
DON'T GET YOUR XBOX 360's SIGNED. There are millions of possibilities when it comes to getting your stuff autographed, and it seems like getting your 360 signed is about as lasting as getting your boobs, ass, or bald head autographed.
This really shouldn't have happened a second time.
# Bug 33302:
Status: Not fixed
Info:
People still get valuable signs on his xbox removed.
TODO: change prodedure now!!!!!!
Priority: high
Note to people with signed 360s: DON'T FUCKING PLAY IT. If it's really something you cherish, you should put it behind glass, else wise this kinda thing is going to happen.
I need to get me a signed 360 and make sure it RROD's so i can get some free shit...
Honestly why are people having their game consoles signed and then using them? If i had a console signed I would shelf it and buy a new one for use.
Have them sign a damn game case people.
What the hell are these guys thinking with the wipes? I understand that some people wouldn't know the exact members of the Halo staff, but when you see The Rock or The Undertaker on a box, can't you take a hint?
Next Headline: CHUCK NORRIS' SIGNATURE WIPED OFF XBOX, CLEANING CREW DEEMED TO BE AN ISOLATED AMISH SOCIETY
You'd think that they'd figure this out eventually.
WTF?
I can't wait to see the ridiculous amount of people who are going to take try taking advantage of this "signed" Xbox business.
Did I mention my 360 was signed by Jesus? When it went all RRoD on me I sent it out. It cam back signature gone...fix THAT MS!
Now why in the hell do they even clean off the signatures in the first place again?
@-EDGE-: Nobody fucks with the Jesus.
People should know better by now. Your 360 will break, Dont put stuff on it.
red flag here,
ummm why take your 360 to signings?
most famous people are only able to sign pics of themselves.
whats to say i make a illegible signature on my xbox whip it clean and say its microsofts fault?
just really skeptical thats all.
@chronubis: Tell that to Chuck Norris.
@Witzbold: They're required, by protocol, to scrub each unit they get in with an alcohol product.
@Dakobah: Really any signing I've ever seen people are willing to sign whatever you want them to. Gencon, wrestling events, local signings, etc, they don't care as long as you're happy as far as I've seen.
What are they going to do when some smart ass signs his console as jesus christ? What can they give him then?
@yanthrax:
They should. It will be Microsoft's fault for trying to save face by giving someone special treatment.
This shit has got to stop. People with priceless memorabilia should not be using it for its original purpose. Repair technicians need to stop being brainless douchebags and destroying people's shit. And companies need to stop rewarding people who whine to the press.
What crap.
Sounds like somebody is trying to cash in on Microsofts generosity with the previous machine. I say pics or it didn't happen.
@Witzbold: I think it's procedure. I'm willing to bet that in the xbox 360 repair sweat shop it isn't the cleanest of places. Maybe they clean it up with some really strong chemicals right before it was packed and shipped back.
So it was signed by fictional characters??? Trust me they did him a favor. Nobody above the age of 6 should believe that crap is real but still they do.....
@chronubis: Haha, leave the signatures MS. You are entering a world of pain. You are entering a WORLD OF PAIN!
Why dont gamers just have those famous people sign a controller. For one thing its cheaper to shelve, because buying a new system after having it signed would be too expensive. Also if your system goes all RROD you dont go through the traumatic experience of having something you treasured wiped out.
Can't say I'm surprised..
@Lemming To The Sea:
Or Judas...
a boy traumatized no way, spoiled brat instead. backstage passes to WWE event seems a little too much money for that. Wrestling is fake (wwe) a bunch of drama fightning.
@Mr.SithNinja: Someone is trying to talk about a subculture they have no idea about. Having been a wrestling fan for 20 years, I can tell you writing off the sports entertainment business as fictional is about as bad as saying television is worthless because most of it isn't real. Do you have a favorite TV show? Do you like the Family Guy? Scrubs? Seinfeld? None of those shows are real, but does that mean nobody over 6 years old should watch that?
When watching wrestling, it's no different than any other program you can tune into on television in which the events occuring are scripted and *for fun*. I would think that video game players wouldn't have too much of a trouble understanding that, considering their beloved video games are all fictional events too which exist merely to tell a story or provide you with an hour or two of entertainment every night.
Now take that into account and continue to tell me why wrestling is crap but Final Fantasy isn't.
Don't worry, I'll wait.
...asshats. Maybe Microsoft should just:
A) Not erase the signatures
or B)Fix the horribly unreliable hardware so no complaints could ever be made!
At least he got something out of it. Now I just need to get famous people to sign an already RROD 360 and send it in to get myself a little something.
@Maaxxx: He's nine, his world probably fell apart :D
WWE? Sounds like they did him a favor...
Maybe he can be body slammed in from of 30,000 screaming fans. Better yet, they should body slam the sob that wiped the signatures of the console.
@Lemming To The Sea:
I can understand why you're being so defensive, but I'll try to answer from my perspective. It's pretty simple in my own mind, really.
I enjoy sports. Football and baseball in particular. Finding out when someone is cheating, or throwing a game, or betting on outcomes of matches they're involved in, it infuriates me. A large part of the drama I get out of watching athletic competition comes from the suspense of heading towards an outcome. When either or both of the competitors already know the outcome, it loses all real tension for me.
I'm not saying everyone should think like me, but I do get why most people look down upon it. In the end, knowing it's fake but enjoying it anyway boils down to enjoying watching men in tights throw each other around.
I think that worries people. :D
@slowreader: He probably thinks it is real and not scripted.
this is retarded, i think microsoft should just simply just say it plain out, anything signatures or drawings on the xbox360 will be wipe clean period. so if some idiot has his 360 signed and used the 360 till it PROD then he better get a new 360. I don't understand why people have their high failure rate console signed instead of maybe a ps3 or wii or heck a computer case(if it must be some kind of gaming related device).
Quickly, someone with a 360 console get signatures from the GTA4 development team. Then send it in and have it erased.
Presto - Early copy of GTA4
@ddollar: your comment hurts my brain.
@Mr.SithNinja: It's still real to me dammit!!
Also, where do I have to be, or who do I have to know to get into places to get my xbox signed? I mean seriously, not that...you know...I'm into things like that.
How about a memo to repairs/service? Just fix the machine,it's not your job to wipe it clean maybe?
Celebrities, let this be a lesson to you: just say no to signing consoles.
Save the kid the future heartache.
Why would somebody lug their 360 around to get signed in the first place? I'd be far too afraid of bumping it against something. I mean, I love my Xbox, but I'm afraid to breathe on it wrong, let alone carry it around.
I think I would want the blank one, who would want that horrible stain that was made by some c-list celebrity! Yeah, this isn't as bad a the Bungie thing.
@Groodle:
So you cannot enjoy wrestling as a fictional show, because it has predetermined outcomes?
Keep in mind Professional wrestling is not a sport. It is "Sports Entertainment".
Do any of you enjoy movies such as dodgeball, Days Of Thunder, or any of the million sports comedies or dramas? Same thing. It is entertainment and that is that.
Some people do choose to allow themselves to pretend it is real, and that is fine too, just like those that allow themselves to love soap operas or shows like Prison Break.
I fail to see how it is any different from any other fictional programming.
If you feel it worries people that others like watching "men in tights throw each other around" then they have some serious sexuality issues.
It is a soap opera in spandex, plain and simple. It is fine if you don't like it but to arbitrarily bash it because its not a "real sport" is like saying GTA4 is going to be the best game ever without even touching the controller....
This is almost becoming moot now.
Listen, if you have a 360 there's a good chance it will one day burn with the red fires of hell, then, Microsoft will douse that mutherfucker clean and send it back to you, stripped of the all the markings from it's former life.
The lesson here: STOP DRAWING SHIT ON YOUR CONSOLE!
This is exactly why I didn't put the stickers that came with my Aqua Teen Hunger Force Vol. 5 DVD on my 360 or my Rock Band guitar.
Aren't 9 year olds only suppose to be the ones playing wiis. Also the smack down game he got is for teens and the show is TV-14. Good old Microsoft.
Who the hell carries a 360 around to get signatures on it? I'm assuming John Cena didn't come to this kids house and that he either brought it to an arena, or some Car Show/Monster Truck/Etc thing where Cena was giving out autographs.
WTF? You get a shirt autographed, a picture autographed, but when did it become a new thing to get expensive electronics autographed.
This is why you should've kept the console black Microsoft.
@Maaxxx:
To the kid I guarantee these were his heroes, no different to him than Adrian peterson, or Brett Favre, or Jerry Rice to other kids.
I know personally how difficult it is to attain autographs of WWE main eventers so this would be a traumatizing incident.
An important memory with his heroes was erased, especially since it was such a young kid, it must have been devastating.
You'd think they would have thought about that after the last fiasco struck... Oh well, I guess lightning does strike twice if you're Microsoft... in the genitals.
I think pretty soon society is going to learn- don't get your 360's autographed. It'd be a better idea to get a faceplate signed instead. Either that or get as many signatures as possible and wait until it breaks, and await the free merchandise. On second hand, it looks like you can't go wrong.
An Xbox 360 without a signature by John Cena is much better than an Xbox 360 with a signature by John Cena.
@-EDGE-: They figured it would just appear back three days later.
I thought the WWE banned piledrivers. The Undertaker and Kane are allowed one a year under a grandfathering clause.
@enewtabie:
In both this case and the previous case (the Bungie incident) the Microsoft people had assured the customers that they would preserve the signatures.
@Groodle:
I don't think he was being defensive, but I do think it is hypocritical to be condescending towards wrestling fans. I was a fan when I was a kid and I rediscovered it in college and have been following it for about 10 years now. It is athletics with the focus on the story and on the action. Most people know it is predetermined, but the athletic components are real and it is about the action.
I love football more than any other sport. After the Super Bowl, I am focused on the draft and after the draft I am focused on training camps and then the preseason. I could save myself a lot of time and just review the scores each Monday without watching the games. It isn't about the outcome, it is about the journey. The outcome is important as part of the story of the season, but unless you are gambling, the fun of football is on the field.
Wiping down consoles with an alcohol based substance is a standard procedure, because i think MS would have a lot larger problems if they spread some new plague because of infected 360 repairmen than if a nine year old lost his WWE signatures. I'm not saying the boy deserved to have them wiped, but on a similar note a reastraunt who had a celebrity come in and say sign a plate, they wouldn't keep using it and not wash it like the rest of the plates just because it has a signature, they would wash it. If the signature is that important to them, they put it behind glass.
If your signed console is worth enough to you to ask for special treatment, why dont you give it special treatment yourself and put it away, or on display, or have a professional local repairdude fix it?
It's also possible that because they are signed, the clever MS ignored employee is switching the signed case with a blank case and selling the new one black market style...
I love how Microsoft doesn't mind pedophilic face covers but signatures of game devs a
