Oh boy! Firmware updates! Sony have just announced that they'll soon be releasing firmware v3.95 for the PSP, an update that will undoubtedly take your good PSP and make it better. It'll be bringing two new features to the portable: custom button configuration for PS1 game playback, and the ability to quit remote play with your PS3 but leave your PS3 running. They may sound insignificant in isolation, but remember, the path to a convenient, labour-free modern lifestyle is littered with baby steps such as these.

no thanks, my custom firmware is soooo much better.
This actually came out earlier tonight and it makes downloading the demos and such from the PSP remotely from the Playstation Store onto the PS3 much easier as you don't have to stay logged in once you start. Good Going Sony!
Can't wait for 3.95 M33! Custom control mapping will be REALLY useful in NamcoMuseum Vol.5. Because, for some reason, that volume lacked the "sideways" controls of the other volumes, which sucked for playing Pac-Mania or Legend of Valkyrie in the vertical mode...
yes it does make it better, i have to update my imac. unless some people are "lazy" to update stuff or back up your hard drive.
Hey, custom button config is always nice. I wonder when Nintendo will wise up and finally give us that for VC. Oh, that's right. Never. :(
@Cobra_Girl: actually you can quit remote play with your PSP and leave your PS3 running since 3.70, all what you have to do is put your downloads in background download and then hit the home button and select quit remote play. it works i use this function every thursday to start remote download from school.
...so the only new feature would be the ps1 remap button option. i smell some hiden features, maybe some sort of integretion to the upcoming home?
@Cobra_Girl: You can quit Remote Play and leave your PS3 running since 3.70, just press home and then select quit remote play ( all your downloads must be in background downloading), your ps3 will keep downloading until you sart remote play again.
anyway nice update, but i smell something hiden, maybe some sort of home integretion.
Excellent..I'll be updating this weekend.
Another nice little update as usual.
Where's the oft-rumored Divx compatability?
I hope you are able to adjust the screen size when playing PS1 games over remote play. Thats the only thing thats bugging me at the moment.
@Pay_Me_Or_Pay_Me_No_Attention:
i know its in the ps3 version already. is the psp even supposed to get it too? that would be cool for sure.
nevertheless, i'm happy with this update. good new features are always welcome in my psp. my psp is about 10 times better than it was when i first bought it. Can't complain, really.
love firmware updates SO much.
I just bought a psp slim daxter pack from cosco this last weekend...Games are ridiculously expensive. I only got 2 games and a movie right now, converted a few movies, that takes forever too...I'll have to finish setting up my quad core and see if encoding is faster. It's awkward having to download game onto the ps3 and then transfer...why don't they have it direct download to psp. Anyway, I'm researching to see if I can do the hack on the psp. We'll see...sure would like to play with emulators.
@ndsOtaku: no thanks, my custom firmware is soooo much better.
Do any of the custom firmwares support remote play yet? My PSP had custom firmware on it when I received it (eBay purchase), but remote play wasn't supported. And it's actually something I use quite often.
@Pay_Me_Or_Pay_Me_No_Attention: Where's the oft-rumored Divx compatability?
I heard that was supposed to be firmware 4.?. I certainly hope it's soon, as that's the #1 thing I'm looking forward to in new PSP firmware.
my psp will become a truly worthwhile investment when they give it divx capability. i bought this stupid thing 3 years ago, and i have converted a total of 3 or 4 videos. if they would do what they should have done in the first place, i would be playing games and watching videos every day.
Well, I loves my PSP. I've found loads of cheap games for it, and use it with Remote Play to watch DivX movies from my PS3 all the time. Would be nice to watch DivX movies on the move though, I agree. I've been trying to play PixelJunk Monsters over remote play but it's a little slippery.
I loves me some firmware updates too. I hope fw 4.0 contains some snazzy new features. Like a decent RSS function and more flexible Internet Radios. I really want to listen to TalkSport on my PSP but I haven't managed to yet.
It really needs native support for DLNA streaming, plus DivX.
I was sort of hoping that Sony could fix the MP4 playback stutters on the PS3 first since I'm unable to stream movies from my media server without watching it pause every 5 seconds.
But hey, PSPs need love too.
btw, it's not loves in first person, but its love.
loves in in third person.
talking about present simple, right?
and my english is AAA+
WOOHOO fix that remote play bug...I have had about a 50% success rate with remote play from the office when using remote start. If I leave it on remote play mode it works everytime, but if they fix that I could save some money on electricity bills...but I am sure my folding at home will decrease...lol
@Doshu:
the latest m33's support remote play. I use it at work all the time to play Pixel Junk Monsters :D
I want my psp to be able to play videos from the net. I want Sony to update the internet browser. Give us the ability to update adobe flash player. Get on the ball. This system has been out for years and Sony just dicks around and doesn't put out stuff for that and oh by the way, would it kill infinity and Sony to give rumble support for COD 4 for PS3? Its only the biggest game of the year and desperately needs rumble!!!
Do I have some kind of rare PS3 then? I've used my PSP to fire it up, then launch folding, and quit remote play to let it run.
Maybe they mean it'll switch over to fullscreen TV mode when you quit it?
@fuchikoma: i thinkkso, because..i can do the same.
Yes! Custom buttons! I hope they're also going to allow using the analogue stick as an actual Dual Shock analogue stick rather than just mapping the digital d-pad to it.
I can already leave my PS3 on when quitting Remote Play.
great, we're approaching the 400th firmware updates for PSP
@nxp3: Check out amazon.com for USED PSP games, I get 7-10$ deals there quite often. Even with another 7$ shipping (to Canada) I still manage to save money compared to some 25-40$ prices we often get here up north.
I can't wait for 4.00
@Sailorcancer:
I can't wait for 4.04 ;P
