I completely forgot about Unreal Tournament III. Sorry, Epic! No harm meant, it's just, I think the world's FPS games/fans have kinda moved on from the late 90s. That and there wasn't a 360 version, which for an online console FPS is like holding a doritos-eating championship then forgetting to invite the fatties. While many then went and assumed the "delayed" 360 version would quietly become the "cancelled" 360 version - due to Microsoft's reluctance to allow user-generated content on the 360 - Epic are still plugging away on the project, with Mark Rein posting on the company forums that the title will be playable for for the press in about two weeks time. Gotta admire their sticktoitiveness.

An fps is irrelevant because it's not on 360? Really Luke? Really?
In other news, UT3 is amazing, especially to people who have actually played it.
/me continues the search for anyone interested in UT3 beyond Playstation 3 owners.
Forgive the trollbait, but it was simply too tempting. Let's shelve that with the RROD and PC gaming being to expensive, yeah?
When an Unreal Tournament releases for the 360 in a forest, does anyone hear it?
Too bad there's so few people modding. A new "Make something Unreal" could of course chance that.
Unreal tournament is a top title and I personally look forward to the release of it on my favoured console, the 360. However i'm only gonna but it if they have those little jump pads that heave you across the level, thats a dealbreaker.
Unreal tournament 3 was ok... i have it for pc and i hear the ps3 version is shit so i dont expect much from the 360.
@Allcars: How is the ps3 version shit?
I think Luke hit the nail on the head with "the world's FPS games/fans have kinda moved on from the late 90s".
The 360 version will attract the achievement ho's, but that's about it I would have thought?
@The_nub_next_door: [www.intel.com]
the million dollar make something unreal contest was just announced, If you can't find any mods, you're just not trying, there's loads of them.
@NessD12: PCs always better cos of keyboard and mouse and user mods
*turns off sarcasm*
PS3 version looks great in HD. But it looks shit in SD. Which is all I have. So I never play it. The engine used in Call of Duty 4 makes the Unreal Engine look like a 90s throwback. I was so looking forward to Unreal, being a fan of the PC versions from back in the day... but I hardly play it because it hurts my eyes with jaggy edges and tearing in SD.
There are plenty of new map mods out for it though. That's the one decent thing about it... free extra content that is actually pretty good.
Shit graphics engine though. It seems all about the definition and not enough about the soul. It doesn't look like 'human vision' the way CoD4 does. And I can't even customise my control set-up! The defaults are bullshit. UTIII is a massive let-down. 360 owners are not going to be missing much while it isn't available.
what a coincidence, i was playing it right now, but the servers just died !!! darn gamespy.
on topic:
Great game, has some minor glitches in the Ps3, but almost all of them were fixed with the 1.10 patch. really fun when using the master chief mod agains a samus army. my 360 friend hasn't forgot about it, he's still waiting for it.
@NessD12: cause the game sucks anyway.
I still play tons of ut2k4 but I have no interest in playing ut3. Yes, I do have it for pc. I've spent a good 6 hours playing it.
I never had the first Xbox, just a Playstation 2, and of the 68 games I own for it only 3 are shooters. Why? Because the analog sticks are brutal and it took me forever just to finish Killzone on easy because of it. At first I thought it was just me not being great at shooters, but then when I got my 360 and just smoked through shooter after shooter I realized it was the controller after all. The 360 was made for shooters, hence the trigger like controller and almost every game (are big one) being a shooter. Unreal Tournament 3 could be great on 360 and might be more successful than the PS3 one ever will be.
For the record, I own a PS3 as well, and when it comes down to it, I buy all games that aren't shooters (GTA, Drake's Fortune, R&C) on the PS3 and any shooter that comes out on 360. That's just how it works.
meh the ps3 game was alright I guess, it would have been a great game if other people used the mods, it seemed like I was the only one using mods and I hate hosting games. the game is really meant for pc were people actually USE the mods. I mean they should make it so at the minimum my character mods will work even if the host doesnt have the mod installed-perhaps mandatory mod installs. without the mods what are you left with??? really beaten down gameplay and nerf guns- btw ive never seen a game hated on so much
@kylo4: Ah finally someone that understands the superiority of the xbox 360 thumbsticks and triggers.
I felt half fucking retarded trying to play drakes fortune on ps3 and the cod games that came out for ps2.
The problem is, all the previous unreal games on the xbox fucking blew ass too. it wasn't that the controls were bad...EVERYTHING was bad.
I've never got on with the Unreal games. I just don't like playing them. So this could stay a PS3 exclusive for all i care.
Considering all the other top quality games coming out this year i'd just be buying it for the hell of it.
@PATSCRU: Maybe i was a little hasty. I do not own the game so I wouldn't know, I simply glanced at the sales figures.
@Allcars: The PS3 version is really good plus it supports Keyboard/Mouse as well as free mods. The 360 version will lack all this good stuff.
I'd completely forgotten about UT3 as well. Then again, I'd never heard of Call of Duty 4 until some people started talking about how it's a good deal for 20% off on Black Friday.
@Ungruntled: Shit graphics engine? Do you mean SD stands for shitty defininition? Because I can assure you this game graphics on a HD display looks great, it's better than Gears of War, but it looks less filtered, the colors are more vivid.
@Ungruntled: I'm bored of people saying that Call of Duty's Engine is what makes it look great. The only reason that game looks great is that it doesn't have mad physics engines or vehicles going on in the background. It barely even has a proper ragdoll model.
Thats why it can look half decent on the next-gen consoles. Other games that have tonnes of stuff going on in the background don't get recognised for they're technical marvel which I believe they should be. If you could drive cars, have great body physics, interact with all the environment or record a video or have even larger multiplayer on Call of Duty 4 the graphics would suffer. This is why Halo, Frontlines any other FPS with stuff going on suffers.
I still think UT3 looks amazing concidering what its doing.
The PS3 just needs to invert the R2 and R3 buttons, everything else is fine. The SixAxis is Convex, and needs to be concave like a trigger.
@kylo4: "Unreal Tournament 3 could be great on 360 and might be more successful than the PS3 one ever will be."
with no mods and having to pay for content that's free on other versions? unlikely. i think that UT3 has the PS3 stink on it, so most 360 owners will pass on it.
i like it, but it takes some getting used to after playing other games. it's pretty fast.
UT3 is pretty damn fun on the ps3, that was the first game I bought for the system. And luke, like the first poster said, really?
Meh without that user generated content ill actually get it on the pc or ps3.
Oh my god did i just say that?
I don't know any 360 gamer who really cares much for Unreal, I guess it is best left to the PC side.
Well I'm getting it no matter what.
@jfx316: unfortunately, he's probably right.
the xbox controller was made to play Nights on the saturn the only thing i like are the triggers
@ Ungruntled: you have no idea what you're talking about.
@ Molockian: the games i host used mods and i get a good turn out. like last night's Map Mod Sessions.
@ The_nub_next_door: CoD4 has how many map packs? Halo 3 has how many? UT3 has over 70 maps available, plus mutators, character mods and game modes. it may not be the same support as UT2k4 but it's still more content than any other FPS this console generation.
@ kylo4: dual analog controls are shit no matter which console they're on. when you can finish or compete on the highest levels or against good player with dual analog and auto-aim turned off, come talk to me. until then, it's no rap. m/kb, splitfish, wiimote...anything else is skilless auto-aim bullshit. DS FPS cramp inducing controls are more accurate than clumsy dual analog.
Microsoft is scared of user content because of Forza 2. Go on there right now and you'll find "inappropriate" content immediately(<3 naked anime girls riiiiite?), but the big thing was that someone made a white power car and some people complained about it. Which sucks because when people complain about user content it really ruins it for everyone else.
Luke loves to bait the trolling
Sticktuitiveness... that was a Woody Allen word, no?
I like this game for the PS3. I wonder how the 360 version will do.
@nottsville: ditto
An FPS really has to bring it to the tale now to complete with Halo/Gears/COD.
The new "games headquarters", Blockbuster, listed UT3 as releasing on May 9th along with Resident Evil 5. I mentioned to the manager that the dates were unlikely at best, but she insisted they were coming out then "because the computer said so"...
my brother got this game. I think i might get because i've become very interested in downloading the mods. I'm gonna get this game and if someone comes out with a cowboy bebop mod, i'm getting it TODAY!!!
The PS3 version supports K/M, so you don't have to use the controller if you don't want to.
I have it for PC, but mine is terrible so I'll definitely be picking it up for the 360.
Come on fella's, lets be honest shooters aren't ps3's stronsuit. The author is right to say that if you make an online shooter without a 360 version your asking for trouble.
@Striderhayasa - Phillyyakk on PSN and Live.: Uhm, what? The PC version of CoD4 has WELL over 70 maps aswell as modes such as CTF.
@Ghost_of_Sparta: Except that makes no sense when majority of the shooters are on both the PS3 and 360. PS3 even has it's own exclusives.... the two systems have about same number of shooters. Of course ignore the PS3, it doesn't have Halo right?
@Ungruntled: you can't customize controls on the PS3 version? Does it have Legacy and southpaw?
'I completely forgot about Unreal Tournament III. Sorry, Epic! No harm meant, it's just, I think the world's FPS games/fans have kinda moved on from the late 90s.'
Haha! Fucking yes! UT3 kept me interested for literally about 10 minutes before I uninstalled it. Same game I was playing 10 years ago.
@nolifedopestar (PSN: noliferuin): Isn't that like spiting in the face and biting the hands that feed you at the same time. Until the PS3 can actually make it's own modes and community and Epics PS3 delivery pipeline doesn't involve running over to your PC with a memory stick... I wouldn't talk so much shit if I were you.
@Jamie_W: Judging a game off of 10 minutes of play, good job. You totally played and did everything the game offered!
Actually, I haven't moved on from the 'late 90s', if by that you mean fun gameplay. Are people who like SSBB stuck in some other decade?
It's fun, it's got a ton of maps, and I've built my own mods already.
The oh-so-perfect-for-shooters 360 doesn't need UT3, because as you recall they have Shadowrun, a game built for this system that is the ideal home for shooters. I recall fondly the vast array of maps, diversity of character models and customization options, and the intensely frantic battles between 360 owners and the guy who bought it for his PC (Good game, Earl!).
I get that you're missing a huge number of shooter nuts by not going 360, but we have actually reached the point where companies make just as big a mistake by not releasing for the PS3.
Come on bro, my picture has Kratos in it i'm clearly not a fanboy. Just sayin the controller isnt great for fps's and the online community is way bigger on xbox live, hence stupid to not release your shooter for both.
