The Force Unleashed Experience

I don't mean to make anyone uncomfortable, but good Lord, this gets me hard:

Whatever your console, this trailer will convince you it's going to be awesome. Exclusive content and gameplay for all of them. God, now I want to buy a Wii. Right after I take a cold shower.

  • Excuse me while I change my pants throughout the video.

As long as the Wiimote matches my movements more closely than Twilight Princess, I'd say they're headed in the right direction.

  • Owen, have you been sandbagging these articles? I mean, I love content... but damn, you definitely have something to say. :)

  • @ Owen - "I don't mean to make anyone uncomfortable, but good Lord, this gets me hard:"

    LOL!!!!!!!

It does look like they're doing a good job on the PSP, PS2 and Wii builds. I might *might* just buy the 360 version and the Wii version together. If I had a nicer PC (rockin the ol' BFG GeForce 6800+ 256mb) I would buy it for the PC, as someone will no doubt make a mod for dismemberment.

  • Wow lol, agreed Owen :P

  • You already sound too comfortable with us. Jeez, at least buy us dinner first! :P

  • picking a guy up and destroying a TIE fighter with him...yeah definitely getting this game.

  • So.... i why didn't the trailer go into detail about the PS3 and Xbox 360 version?

  • @Tiberian: Cause they'd put the other ones to shame.

  • It looks like the Wii version will actually be a Wii game, rather than some lazy PS2 Port.

  • damn, I might buy all the versions of this game

  • So they are different games with no alternate names like "the force unleashed - blah blah" on them but they all have the same title.. it´s like releasing a lot of different movies and calling them all the same movie. Now that´s a bit wierd, don´t you think?

Anyway I hope that the DS version isn´t a crappy one.

  • People need to stop referring to different versions of products as "SKUs".

  • as for exclusive content, I dunno. It'd suck if you could only get, say, General Grievous on the DS version, and couldn't see him work his magic on an HDTV, or something like that.

    Also, lightsaber+shield? What?

Now, if the early Sith in the PS2 version have the archaic, power-pack-fed lightsaber, that'd be pretty awesome. Especially if you could, I dunno, sever it somehow. Or at least be able to slice apart those double-bladed lightsabers, which worked pretty well in Episode I.

  • *** Shudder *** Last-gen graphics ...

  • This is the true way to develop a multiplatform game.

Kudos to LucasArts. It is a pleasure to watch every second of video for this game.

    CAn't wait.

  • I think this could be the first time that I buy the same game on more than one platform (excluding the VC). I want the Wii and 360 versions, plus the PSP version looks cool enough to actually induce me to buy a PSP just to play a third version of the game!

Oh, and Owen, how can you not have a Wii? Isn't that, like, your job, or something?

  • that vids all fine and dandy but i want to see more gameplay and gfxs not jus how well it works on consoles and handhelds that don't look so good

  • I stand by my comment of every third party game ever made:

    Could be good.

  • September will bring about the destruction of my wallet on PS3/360.

  • @Tiberian: No kidding - especially when they occasionally sprinkle in video that has a XBOX 360 stamp in the bottom right corner.

But I think our extra content is that our versions are pretty.

  • The PSP version stutters like hell - not good...

The Wii version makes me shudder. I really don't want to have to buy this twice! Looks like I have to, though. Can't miss HD 720p on 360, but can't miss HD480P and intuitive Force and Lightsaber on Wii either. Those genius #@?!%^*s.

  • If they nail the wiimote, this game should be the reason you buy a wii, not the craptacular SSBB.

  • Image of NeoAkira NeoAkira at 01:30 PM on 04/06/08 *

@vicmasterinc: All they showed was gameplay basically. You...use the force and lightsaber...I thought that was obvious.

I wasn't too excited about this game, but after that trailer I can't wait.

  • hoookay then, that will be me picking up the Wii PS3 and PSP versions day one then. That is providing of course that the game lives up to these videos

  • yeah i can only think the same thing other people have posted. they made the other versions of the games look good. but where the hell is all the new gen content. what are we going to be seeing different on the ps3 and 360 versions? ps3 going to support movement controlls like the wii? different DLC on the consoles?

  • @dead_red_eyes: It's not coming to PC.

  • @thefais: Amen, about time. This actually makes me hope and dream that the Wii controls will be filled with bad-assery. Gotta say, this is definitely looking really good. Might be my first Star Wars game in quite a while...I'm glad the trend is moving away from the mediocre.

  • wait...darth vader can't use sith lightning,he has robo-hands.

  • @Yuki:

Sure, it doesn't make much sense, but it's an industry thing. I've worked on 6 different games, and for 3 different companies, and it's just the accepted term. I really can't imagine trying to work without it.

  • Doesn't the Wii version have exclusive levels too? Added selling points...

  • I think this will be the first game that I buy on multiple consoles. Having the graphic-greatness and cheevos of the Xbox360 version will be excellent, but having the power to wield my Wii-saber looks to be too much love to pass up.

  • Kandosii!
Dibs on Mara in duel mode!

  • @Yuki:
That's how people talk about it in the Industry. I don't know if you've ever worked in video games, but it's completely and totally ingrained in the language of the business. Don't worry though, no one is going to force you to call them SKUs.

  • They're making it difficult to decide whether I'll get it for 360 or Wii. I'll have to wait for reviews to find out just how good the motion controls work, b/c I really want the HD graphics.

  • I'd bet good money all the unique content in these versions will be DLC for the 360 and PS3 versions.

  • Yeah...I kinda want them all now! The PS2 version's Sith Lords look really cool, that was the version I had least faith in. I'll have to see the reviews, but I'll be getting a copy of the 360 version for sure!

  • Graphics are nice, the amount of power you have with lifting/throwing objects seems cool. Aside from that I haven't seen any interesting gameplay. (I fear that's because lifting/throwing objects IS the gameplay. Period.)

You could throw the lightsaber and control its flight in Jedi Knight 2 - well you can do that in Force Unleashed, but this time it cuts down trees! Horaay, next-gen.

I want to get excited about this game, but it doesn't look like anything particularly new and cool to me. The physics engine combining with the AI produces some entertaining results, but I'll definetly wait for ten reviews lining up with 88+ scores before I think about taking this one home.

  • Nice video all in all. I'm not very much impressed by the DS version. I'll definitely buy the PS3 one, maybe the PSP one too if I'm not outta bucks (classic battles sound cool).

Now maybe we could have more on content, storyline, game depth? Physics engine/graphics are excellent, I think LucasArts should try and give us a bit more on.. well, you know, the rest.

I have a sticking point with this FU thing (btw, best game acronym evar). One of the biggest deals with a lightsaber is that it cuts through anything, and it does it instantly. The original movie had the taquito-in-meat-sauce alien arm delimbitation. They even had a 'cheat' that would let you cut off bodyparts in the original Jedi Knight (it wasn't really ready for prime time, I'm assuming, which is why it wasn't on by default). To say nothing of the endless robot battles in the prequels where everything falls apart with one swing. The only thing that can survive a light saber swing is a parry by some kind of light-saber equivalent. For instance, another light saber.

Now, Blood Rayne II, which was *awesome*, provided you really like boobs, and I do, had limbs coming off in every which direction some 3 or 4 years ago (at least, possibly longer).

So how is it they've got as far as 1) lift storm trooper in air 2) skewer storm trooper with light saber 3) fling hapless trooper into TIE fighter, but you're still running goofy old combos on regular enemies?

    That seems leashed to me.

  • Hearing them chant TFU in the video again and again always made me think of some new Team Fortress game...

Better cut down on my TF2 time...

  • @sanctusmortis: 480p ain't HD... but I get what you're saying. :)

  • I'll definitely get the Wii version and I might get the PS3 version so I can use it for something other than Blu-Ray since that's pretty much all it's good for.

  • The Wii version is actually looking good.. I thought they would make just a crappy PS2 port.. nice job!

On the other hand, the DS version control-scheme is looking really weird..

  • @Fyren: craptacular SSBB? take your head out of the sand

Anyway this is looking awesome, makes Lego Star Wars which was the exact same on all consoles look like a bit of a joke as much as I liked it

  • still yawn

  • I can just imagine the hordes of people buying all of the versions of this game, including buying the systems just for the game and a 2nd copy of each to keep for collection, never to be opened or sold.

I'll just leave it up to my nephew for which to get it for, since he's the Star Wars fan. This is for me is the first Star Wars game to catch my eye.

  • Wow, "Star Wars: The Port Unleashed" jk

  • ...I came SO MANY TIMES in this video.

I mean, playable VADER? Plus duel modes with alot of different characters?

This is probably the first game that's being put ALOT of effort into in every single platform it's gonna come out in. This is gonna be AWESOME. Finally, the industry is learning.

  • Damn! I wan't the PS2 content with the wii controls with the PS3 Graphics. Make it Happen Lucas Arts!

I will have to make a lot of soul searching to decide if i buy the wii or the ps3 version. Graphics look good enough for me on the wii and controls look so sweet! But i know i'm gonna want the HD- Better phisics PS3 version. And the extra on the ps3 would have been nice to have... This is worse than the soul calibur 2 debacle :P

Is there some rich people that want to adopt me?

  • @Strangelove: Haha, that's what I was feeling. I was waiting for the 360 & PS3 bits.

  • @Wyld: Clue

  • Bad choice of acronym, good choice of asskickagery

  • Despite the fact that the trailer was low quality, one could see that the Wii version looked quite decent - good even. IMO absolutely enough to enjoy the game graphic-wise.

As for this particular Star Wars game, I think the Wii version will be the definitive one, because as soon as people get tired of looking at the graphics, or better, get used to the awesome visuals, what is it really that keeps you enjoying the game to the end? GAMEPLAY and FUN!

Thats why I think the Wii version will have a small advantage over them all.

  • wow, is this not the best star wars experience ever made? i can't wait to give them my money!

  • No PC, No DevCo :-(

  • PS3 and 360 versions are talked about in the begining of the video, havok physics, next gen graphics, etc.

  • yeah owen.. a tad inappropriate. i mean, look at some of the comments.. please don't unleash the floodgates :P

  • @Fyren: Haven't we had enough threads for you to complain about SSBB? Give it a rest.
@Mlata: The other versions did look pretty fun to me.I do think the Wii version looks interesting though. But it remains to be seen how many missions, etc are on each version. You might want to wait before called the Wii FU the definitive version especially since it seems to have popped up later on in the development cycle.

I wasn't going to buy it for any console but at the very least I'll rent it for both the PS3 and Wii now.

  • Where's the Xbox version?

    Hey-yo!

Anyway, I'm still not impressed by anything they've shown or revealed for this game. It just looks to be another piece of fairly simple licensed button-mashing (because of all the 'demos' they're going to have to hit) with brain-dead enemies, tedious boss battles, and most likely a fanfic-caliber 'narrative', all in another six-hour, full-MSRP game.* Wow, that's a lot of hyphens.

Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan, and have been since I saw "Star Wars" first-run back in '77, but this looks to be a game that will at best fall around the midpoint of the Star Wars Game Quality Continuum. Assuming I'm right, and assuming people buy it in spades, you'll never get that truly great Star Wars action game.

P.S. I can't wait to see Kotaku's entry about the first fan to send them pics of all six versions, with a close-up of the ONE RECEIPT they're all on, and all surrounded by a Super Star Destroyer cake.

*--Rebuttal about lengthening game through unlockables and/or Achievement-chasing in three, two....

  • SKU (Stock-keeping unit) is from the retail side, the barcode to define what the item is. When you have more than one flavor of a system, or a game across different platforms, that's where the term comes in.

    Deal with it :P

  • I think I need something to clean up the mess I made at my desk. Tissue or a handy wipe will suffice.

  • SWTFU...so close to most awesome game title acronym.

  • Finally saw some gameplay footage over at GameTrailers that gave me a little hope for a deeper combat system in this game. It was called 'The Force Unleashed - Gameplay', and has the apprentice doin' cool stuff like holding up a trooper with the force and throwing the lightsabre for an impale (the guy grabs the grip of the sabre in his chest and makes cool/gross gurgling sounds), and a nice combo where he throws the guy up in the air, leaps up and juggles him with a sabre combo.

I'm still not sold, just more hopeful.

  • @Black_Ops_19: how bout some "Wet Ones" :P
