Gran Turismo for Boys. Remember that one? Heard word of it back around 2004 and then nary a peep for four years, but now there's word that it might actually happen, just not as a stand-alone game.
ComputerAndVideoGames.com talked to GT creator Kazunori Yamauchi, who said there's hope that GT for Boys will be a feature within Gran Turismo 5. The point of a "for Boys" GT would be to give younger kids — and spazzy adults — a pick-up-and-play version of GT, without the unforgiving realism of the original.
Yamauchi's comment came in a broader interview with CVG about GT5.
Question: Can girls play too? Just askin' ...

Sorry, but the box clearly is labeled "FORT TURISMO NO GIRlz ALOWEDD"
An interesting idea. I just hope they don't spend too much time on this "for boys" feature, and just finish the game already. I'm not paying money for a demo, or prologue, or whatever you want to call it. Who am I kidding, Forza 5 will probably launch ahead of Gran Turismo 5.
@Kickinstuff13: I'v bought it, in my opinion its worth the money.
So they're making both simulation and arcade racer in one? Pretty awesome.
Girls will only want to play if the game features slow but shiny convertibles only. Or big honking SUVs so they can practice driving while on a cellphone early.
@Kickinstuff13: But will Forza 5 have 800 cars?
Training wheels are good.
GT isn't that easy
Now all can play it.
@DarkTetsuya: Hah, no, but I bet it will still have damage.
@John-irl: Really? hrmmmm. So even though I'll have to buy the real GT 5 when it comes out, you still recommend it? Maybe I should check this out, 'cause the only ps3 games i have right now are Resistance, and The Godfather. Needless to say, the wii and ps3 collect dust while the 360 gets all the love...
A version of GT that can be appreciated by non enthusiasts? As more of an Outrun/Sega Rally type guy, colour me intrigued.
That picture wins.
@Kickinstuff13: Wow, you sure know what's hot on the marketplace, with the only games Resistance and The Godfather. No wonder your console collects dust.
Anyway, GT5:Prologue is only worth it if you don't pay 40 bucks or whatever it costs. That is way overpriced. Try get it cheaper, maybe even import it. It sells for £18 on some UK online stores. For comparison, it's 40€ in Germany.
If you're from the US, you can forget about importing though, that'd cost more in the end.
In Spanish you use the male tense to include both genders, so I'm pretty sure girls can play too.
@Knight-Zero: Wow that was a random fact. Now I know Ill be ready for Monday's Jeopardy.
@Candlejack: Well, any multiplatform game that comes out, I get for the 360. XBL is just more... "more" than PS3, if you know what I mean? Maybe that'll change once the dual shock 3 comes out. But what games can you recommend, preferably PS3 exclusives?
Everyday Shooter for ps3. not a boxed game but that dont matter. Uncharted without a doubt, if you dont enjoy it, well i feel sorry for you.
You guys are all missing the point. This isn't so that everyone can play, it's so that ten year olds with headsets can play online without annoying the rest of us. That's why it's "for boys". Ten year old girls on headsets just aren't as annoying.
@NeoStarr: It would be in a different mode more than likely, I doubt that we would be able to participate in ranked matched with us.
@Kickinstuff13: I own I'd say 4 games that even have online multiplayer for the PS3. Of those, I only want to play 2. In any case, I started building my PS3 library with exclusives.
Namely Heavenly Sword, Folklore, Uncharted, Warhawk, GT5:Prologue, Resistance and yes Lair. As you don't want multi platform titles, I won't mention R6:Vegas2, which I highly recommend in general.
You should look into those exclusives as most of them have great singleplayer. Maybe short, but great.
Also, if you don't mind a rehash, Ninja Gaiden Sigma is great quality.
I admittedly haven't owned a GT game since GT2, but it had an Arcade mode, too. I was under the impression that every version did.
Seemed to be exactly what you'd expect from a GT "arcade" mode: maybe some sim nuts could write a FAQ about it with the differences in gear ratio timings between the modes calculated in full detail, but I couldn't really see much of a difference from the Simulation.
*definately not a GT fan, but loves him some real arcade racing*
@Candlejack: Sounds like a good library. I was thinking about Uncharted and Lair. Heavenly Sword, I've heard, makes a good rental. And I have R6:V2 for 360. I can't support the quadruple dipping of a title (NG Sigma), I bought the original for Xbox, not going to buy a rehash, but probably the sequel when it comes out. Once again, I don't know much about PS3 stuff, any news on release dates for GT 5 and MGS4 (US)?
@Kickinstuff13: GT5 is MIA (joking, no release date announced), while MGS4 has the solid and final release date June 12th (worldwide).
If you don't think it's too generic, you should keep an eye out for HAZE in about 6 weeks, too.
I'm pretty sure if Kojima has the time and can screw around putting Altair in a MGS4 April fools video, the game must be finished.
@Kickinstuff13: You bought GodFather for PS3 and you are considering Lair? Just hit IGN and the games that have the top reviews. Remove the multi-plats and you'll find excellent to amazing titles. Folklore as RPG, Ninja Gaiden/ HS as action, Warhawk/UT3 as shooters, Motorstorm as a racer...
@Candlejack: Well that's good. At least I get too look forward to MGS4 for this summer. And I didn't realize that prologue hadn't been released yet. And yeah! Haze! I had forgotten about that game. Although, haven't there been rumblings about it coming to the 360?
@slomo788: Yeah, I've been thinking about Lair. I'm hesitant to buy a game that got mixed reviews, but I really want to try out the controls...
@Kickinstuff13: Unless you find it VERY cheap (read: 25 bucks and under), I'd advise you to wait for the rumored patch that gives you the choice. If you want to try cool motion sensing with the choice of going back to more traditional controls, I'd suggest Warhawk instead.
@Kickinstuff13: Oh, I thought you meant the proper GT5 - GT5:Prologue is out already in Europe. I think it's coming to the US on the 15th.
HAZE is actually confirmed exclusive and according to the devs will stay that way as of now. I'm saying that because I can't tell if they change their minds and port it in a year or so.
Also, Lair isn't that bad but it's not exactly great. I don't mind the controls at all but the gameplay just isn't good enough in my taste. But I got it extremely cheap so I can't complain.
@Kickinstuff13: Eye of Judgement is pretty darn fun too, if a bit of a paint to setup.
Don't let the reviews of Lair scare you off - once you get used to it, it's fun.
@slomo788: Well, I wouldn't say cheap, but PS3 is the first playstation I've owned, and I didn't even really mean to buy it (I camped out for the PS3 launch as a dare/joke with some friends. I actually ended up being so far up in the line, that I got a 60GB unit. After all that camping nonsense, I decided to keep it). So, I've always liked the xbox controller better (if only the ps controller would swap the dpad and left analog stick...). But now that I have one, it'd be nice to test the water for under $25 first. Or maybe I am just cheap...
That would be great as I love the way GT looks, but hate the way it plays!
@Candlejack: Yeah, I was surprised that Prologue wasn't out here yet. "...change their minds and port it..." so was Haze built specifically for the ps3 architecture? That could be a tie break for me. Not many 3rd party devs develop games specifically for the ps3 architecture.
@Dunny0: I've looked at eye of judgement. I'm not sure I want to drop the money for another console cam (I have the xbox version for r6v). Peripherals... so fun... so expensive...
@Kickinstuff13: I am pretty sure it will take advantage of some of the PS3s features fairly well. It initially started out multi platform but as they went PS3 exclusive they probably realized they better pack some punch in the game. The game even has an advert introducing the DualShock3 (a SIXAXIS injected with Nectar). According to some developer diaries (if you can call them that), the game will also stream all the textures, which means you can play it in one sitting through to the end without loading screens once you are ingame.
Also, it'll have great COOP gameplay. You'll be able to mix split screen and online COOP and so on.
At least that's the promise they made.
@Candlejack: Wow, sounds great. I'll definitely have to look into it. I think that's where the PS3 will shine. I know people are annoyed with installing games, but that's the edge PS3 has over the 360 - the standard hard drive. The bluray and cell processor (and the architecture in general) hurts as much as it helps in my opinion.
@Dorphat the Insomniac: Sorry, but really you think its that hard? I thought the reason for the breaking line etc being introduced was to make it more forgiving. But a whole new game? Just learn to break tbh :\
Cool. But they really should change that name. For boys? That's kind of, I repeat, KIND OF sexist. Not too much. Passable. But they should give it a more broad name, like "Gran Turismo For All".
That looked pretty real.
Gran Turismo is already a Forza 2 for boys... Forza 2 more realistic and has a damage system and proper online.
lol.
@JediMaster:
the damage system in Forza is far from realistic...also
GT5P physics engine >Forza 2 >GT series> Forza 1
@IntelSilver: It's not sexist. Just dumb. Maybe "GT Simple" or something like that.
Ever since GT2 they've had an arcade mode is that not enough?
ya know what, save this shit and make it a seperate game. use the the extra space for a few more cars, or putting a bit more detail into some of the tracks. k thx
@IntelSilver:
I agree with you. But you know our constitution says, " We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal".
I suppose you can argue that back in the day, like in the Spanish language, as Knight Zero points out, that male tense refered to both genders, but we all know how long and hard the feminist/ civil rights movement had to fight to get voting rights for women.
Now I really don't think Yamauchi was being sexist, but yes the old convention sure makes him seem that way.
Unfortunately, as much as I would like to see it changed to the way you have suggested, much like our constitution, I doubt it will.
How about just an option that lets me have access to all of the tracks and cars I paid for without spending a couple of months unlocking them all? I don't play GT for the same reason I don't play WoW: it's not a game, it's a fucking JOB.
@Kickinstuff13: Am I the only one who likes the Ratchet and Clank series? Really? Those are wonderful games.
I hope your aversion to it isn't predicated upon some naive belief that it's for the kiddies or something. A lot of people believe that videogames in general are for kids, retards, losers, brain-dead mouth-breathers, etc.., but we know that isn't true. Don't let the first appearances, the seems, of a game fool you.
Does this mean he's developing for the Wii?
*runs away*
@shikaningen: I actually forgot to mention that game. I hold Tools of Destruction in high regard. It's awesome.
@Captain Fury:
"GT Series" > Forza 1!?
Have you ever driven a car on a track? The tire model in GT (take your pick of versions) is too simplistic to give the game any realism. Tires are a part of the suspension system, and GT models them as solid rocks. Forza's tire deformation makes the cars behave much more realistically during weight transfer. The way cars take a set in a corner in Forza feels like the real thing. Compare that with GT, where cars just lean over and grip. GT might as well be Riiiiiidge Racer.
GT's biggest virtue as a racing simulation was always that it was that there wasn't anything better available on consoles. With that virtue now eliminated, they might as well slide back to an arcade racer. It's obvious from devolution of the series from GT2 to GT3 to GT4 that they're more interested in eye candy than simulation fidelity, anyway.
I'm more curious to see if they add rocket launchers to the nitrous kit than if they claim any more realism. :)
hey ckrueger i probably bet you did not turn off the assists in GT including the traction control. If you did that then you would have immediately realised how much more realistic GT4 is than even Forza 2
@DarkTetsuya:
Maybe they should limit it to 50 cars and release the game already. This game is quickly becoming the Falcon 4.0 of driving sims.
"without the unforgiving realism of the original."
lol
@ckrueger: my subaru does just lean over and grip. god that damn car sticks to th road. compared to forza 1 where the wrx refused to friggin turn at high speeds (probably because when I played it up at an eb games they didnt have the assists off though... atleast I hope so)
