If you can't wait for the Halo Legendary Map Pack, Bungie understands. And while they won't be releasing any maps earlier than their April 15th target, they are happy to give you a trailer to set the mood. It's a pretty decent watch (we have a particular penchant for the overtly dramatic), and it provides a solid glimpse of the new maps Avalanche, Blackout and Ghost Town.
Legendary Map Pack Trailer [Bungie] Thanks Preston!

meh...
sucks
Heh, still goin with that "mysterious dark voice" get up. Honestly I don't see the point in wasting my money over 3 or four maps.
Honestly, I don't see the point in wasting my money over three maps. Especially when they want 5 or 6 bucks for em.
I won't buy Halo 3 until it's $29.99 lol.
oops...
I'm also not feeling the Matrix-like trailer.
So... dramatic.
I love the fact that Halo Map Packs get their own trailer.
It's more than Duke Nukem gets per decade.
How did you manage to get the date wrong when it says it in the trailer?
April 15th guys ;)
The music in the background sounds like something out of the Matrix films. Anyways, looks cool.
Would have been a better trailer if they used a GoGos song after the build-up.
Hmmm was okay. I didn't really get a very good glimpse of blackout (lockout remake) or Ghost Town. Could have done without the voice over as well. Was hoping the guys at Red Vs Blue would demo the map pack like they did the last one, that was at least fun to watch.
@ZeroGinc: Pretty much.
All these trailers for map packs... What's next? A trailer for PS3 Firmware 2.4?
@illmatic291: Can you take your monotonous Halo hate elsewhere? That's your 3rd anti-Halo post in a row, and the first 2 weren't even in halo related articles.
blasphemy! how dare you.
@PhilESkyline: I was in the mall and saw that FYE has halo 3 for 19.99 after 20 dollar mail in rebate!
@7ucky: That had me laughing pretty hard just imagining that. I think I have found my quote of the week. ^_^
But as for the article, the release date to me is when they release them for free. ^_^
Mmm... paying for maps. Glad I don't suffer that atrocity.
Isn't one of those just a re-textured version of one of the maps already in the game?
Yeah, no thanks. I don't even know why I still have this game.
@illmatic291: You're asking for a swift end.

Anyway, looks cool. I'm sure whoever enjoys Halo will eat it up.
Sidewinner and Lockout remake? FTW!!!
"And woe am I, as my voice be that as constipated as the release of these said maps..."
Bungie delivered on bringing back two fan favorites, SIDWINDER, and LOCKOUT. Props bungie. And for those of you who are bitching about price, thats two fucking baconators, jesus christ.
It's funny how they are trying to release it on the 15th of this month to counter GT 5 Prologue. Halo 3 is already old news. MS needs to step their game up.
GT 5 Prologue is going to own this month.
"Halo 3 cant last forever"
@Doomstalk: Thank you!
Anyway, I'll be picking these up. No way I can pass up a Sidewinder remake with tons of vehicles (incuding Hornets!)
I'll break the string of haters....As seen by my pic, I am a complete Bungie apologist and that trailer made me quite happy to watch. As I play nearly every day, I can't wait for new maps and will galdly pony up the cash - though I certainly respect the decision of the casual players to wait for them to be free.
I'll never understand the hatred of this type of DLC. It's free for all who choose to wait and there's no one forcing players to buy it. The game's totally playable without it. Would I like it to be 400 points versus 800? Sure, but I don't generally buy DLC except for games like this that i play the crap out of and that I know will be quality work.
It's not Halo/Bungie driving up the prices of DLC and the extortion-like practices - it's people buying millions of dollars of music tracks for GH/Rock, EA and others selling unlock codes as DLC, and MS insisiting that everything costs cash if at all possible.
The thing is, for all the whining about price, people are buying the stuff in droves.
Halo always looks so much more fun in the third person...then I go to play it and BAM I hate it >.< Like, even just watching that makes me want to play a little...but it's just a lie ._.
I was so-so about the first map-pack -- for me the best part was the huge variety of maps people made for Foundry. And I was skeptical about whether I'd want to pay for this one, but Sidewinder looks awesome. And Lord knows I could use me another giant map.
But maybe I've got more money than sense, who's to say.
That was ... dark. Not a very big demonstration of the maps, but it was pretty cool as a trailer.
I'll never understand the Halo hate, but whatever. Its highly successful and millions have a ton of fun with it.
@That Boy Baked: haha, i love your reference.
Remakes are always fun to play online. Except the hang 'em high for halo 2, bad release timing. I wouldn't mind giving up a day of fastfood for these maps.
Was the voiceover quoting from something? One of the lines sounded familiar...
Definitely picking this up when it comes out, as its one of the only games I care about getting new maps for. As with the last pack, half of my enjoyment will come from the crazy things I can do with them in forge-mostly the construction of oddly shaped polygonal Fusion Coil bundles and the resulting explosions that bring the game engine to its knees ;)
I understood all the hate when we were fresh off the pre-release media blitz, which even those who like the game had to have some disgust for, but its old news guys, give it a rest. Those still playing it don't give a damn about the haters, and those who aren't still playing it, the majority of them are too busy, I don't know, actually playing games they like to spend time and effort on hating Halo.
Thats why I don't even look at most Halo-related news anymore, its like a beacon to everybody with a gripe about anything MS has ever done wrong in the last decade, not to mention people still pissed that [name of their favorite game here] lacks the popularity and recognition of Halo.
@Ghostm: Youre right, GTA IV wont be able to hold a candle to GT5 P..
ha.
@Ghostm:
What does GT5 have to do with Halo 3? Maybe if you said COD4 since they're both FPS.
Lockout and Sidewinder should be fun, but I'm actually looking forward to the new map. Here's hoping they're not as dissapointing as the last maps.
did that voiceover remind anyone else of GY!BE's song, 'Dead Flag Blues?'
"The car's on fire and there's no driver at the wheel
and the sewers are all muddied with a thousand lonely suicides
and a dark wind blows..."
maybe that's why i liked that trailer so much.
yeah, a little over the top, and yeah, it's a trailer for a map pack.
but blizzard started it with the expansion-trailers and why not? it's to build excitement for a release.
worked for me, son.
well at least these maps are more original than those cod4 campagin maps. honestly infinty ward, take the time to make a NEW map, not just going back to campaign box and tack on a "YOU MAY NOT PASS" barrier or door. for me as both a cod4 and halo 3 player, i'd rather pay for the halo 3 ones with time and effort put into them. plus bungie eventually releases them for free.
I know people love to bash Halo but one thing that anyone has to admit to is Bungie's dedication to the game and their audience. Everytime I wander away from Halo 3 onto other games they keep bringing me back. I paid for the last map pack, and as much as I played it and with additional gametypes like Grifball I think it was entirely worth it.
I was never a big fan of Halo in the past, but Bungie won me over with Halo 3. Heck, it can take months for Call of Duty to get a patch, or for other games to recieve updates but Bungie is constantly doing new stuff with Halo 3.
I'll be getting this! When its free!
meh
Doing new things with halo3? like what? adding in more mutators from unreal tourny? seriously? that was like what? 10 years ago? feels like it atleast.
@DaiMacculate:
well said. Im getting this maps too, they look nice. bungie really cares about the community as you can see they are bringing the favorite halo 2 map, lockout. I hope they remake Ivory Tower someday.
@Ghostm: huh? bungie doesn't care at all about gt 5 [demo lol] maybe cod 4 but certainly not gt 5.
Dont know why they chose to go so dramatic. Bnet is my second home <3
@DaiMacculate:
You mean Bryon's "Darkness"?
@Derigor: Gametypes, map changes/fixes, tournaments, etc.
Bryon quote, h-o-t.
I don't like this trailer, their Heroic Map Pack trailer was much better.
The voiceover guy needs seriously needs to lighten up. Maps look fine, but I think I'll wait for them to become free like the Heroic map pack.
@illmatic291: Why the Halo vendetta? Did Master Chief run over your cat?
@DaiMacculate: Well put.
I meant Byron's "Darkness"
@DaiMacculate: I believe it's a quote from Byron.. but not entirely sure.
If you don't like Halo theres no map thats going to change your mind. Go play what you like and allow others to do the same.
@whiptcracker: +1 on loving Grifball. It seems so basic when you read the description, but when you play it, it's just insanely fun. I guess also I like it 'cause the group I play with has people of widely varying ability, but Grifball's silly and easy enough that most everyone can have a good time.
@J-Fro: Ugh. Too many "needs"
@DaiMacculate: You damn sure deserve that star next to your name. Bungie should not be in the same sentance as Microsoft in terms of how they treat their customers or fan base. Bungie is a great community to be a part of. I should know I have been there for a little under 3 years.
I think I'll go with the COD4 maps.
My main problem with the packs costing $10 is that I'm already paying $50 a year to play the game. So to me, the packs should be free as an incentive to maintain my LIVE subscription. So yeah, I'll be waiting for these to become free. I just got the last 3 maps since I wasn't willing to pay for them either.
@whiptcracker: Amen. I loved Halo 3 before CoD4 came out, now I don't play it any more. I almost feel guilty, though, as Bungie's community support (and involvement) is superb. Puts that big-eared bellend fourzerotwo and his shitty blog to shame.
Having said that, I will be downloading the new CoD4 maps post haste, and will wait for these maps to go free. I downloaded the last Halo 3 maps recently (again after they went free) and still haven't played them!
People need to stop complaining and admit (if your a HALO fan) that you will be getting it. If your not you won't but stop hatin on something as simple as a DLC video.
Were have all my fun having gamers gone. Let's just love video games...lmao...I'm a lil tipsy right now...just had to rant.
I had a dream, which was not all a dream.
The bright sun was extinguished, and the stars
Did wander darkling in the eternal space,
Rayless, and pathless, and the icy earth
Swung blind and blackening in the moonless air;
Morn came and went-and came, and brought no day,
And men forgot their passions in the dread
Of this their desolation; and all hearts
...
Beautiful.

@Cloral: the real deal is that your not paying 50 bucks a year for this game your paying 50 bucks a year for "EVERY" Live! enabled feature like across the board chating via video, voice, and text also don't forget the ecross any game buddie list intergration and things of the such. Also remember if you break it down (ok brotha) your really paying 3.84 a month for live. Since every 50 buck Gold card gives you one month extra, and yes even the new cards that don't say it on the packages.
@LennyShimizu: Yeah it's a lot of fun. I hope they bring it back to the social list now that everyone can download that map. My wife and I play Rocket Race together and that's also a lot of goofy fun.
Bungie keeps hinting around a hopper system for player made gametypes and I can't wait for that to be finalized. I want to try out that Pac-Man game mode.
@MrStabby6: We try really hard to screw these things up.
