Pokémon? Huge in Japan. Monster Hunter? Gargantuan! Capcom's expansion to Monster Hunter Portable 2nd for PSP sold a staggering 880,000 copies in its debut week, besting even Super Smash Bros. Brawl's first week on the market. Should do wonders for PSP sales, especially since Sony pinched out another special edition version of the handheld just for the occasion. Last week's champ, Pokémon Ranger: Batonnage was no sophomore slouch, moving over a hundred thousand copies. We'll see if Monster Hunter has legs next week, which seems like a very safe bet.

Wow! 880,000. That is incredible. So... the PSP did well this week.
Monster Hunter!! I played that game just to see what the fuss was about. It was pretty cool. I just did not like the camera angles other than that it is easy to see why it is selling like hotcakes!
What is Armored Core 4: Answer? Sequel? Or just rehash? Or the same Armored Core 4 but with a subtitle in Japan?
Also, any good? I'm fairly certain it won't be different from the other ones :\
There's a Shin-Chan game? Awesome! I hope it sees its way to the US eventually.
@Candlejack:
Armored Core 4: For Answers is a sequel. You can grab a demo and videos off of the Japanese PSN. It's actuall better than the first IMOO.
How the F is New Super Mario Bros. still on the chart and Super Mario Galaxy is nowhere to be seen? Madness, I tell you, madness!
HOLY FUCK thats a lot of expansion packs
Go Monster Hunter! Come on US & UK Monster Hunter Portable/Freedom 2 G release! Embark!
-Niric
It's so weird, I don't even know anything about Monster Hunter other than you hunt monsters.
@VishusBurn: Ah cheers, gotta fire up the ole an' dusty Japanese account ;D
yeah- AC: for Answer is sort of like the mech version of Shadow of the Colossus...you battle enormous armed forts on most missions.
actually I think monster hunter 2nd G sold over 1 mil+ in the first 6 days, not sure if this including just software or both software + the package deal.
Accent Core Plus? Why must you torment me so, Arc System Works?
one of the best games I played on PSP, but it's probably too hardcore for the most western players, skill based game play, with customizable armor and weapon. You hunt giant monster at different environments, then harvest their body to make better armor and stuff.
MONSTER HUNTER 2nd G!!
Sorry but in it's debut week (the game was release on 3/27), it already got sold passed a MILLION COPIES as of 4/1.

So "880,000 copies in its debut week" is a big understatement for this game =)
@liquid_kore: Give this a watch:

Forget saying Sony country it Nintendo now!!!
@Niric: Whoops! Sorry - I meant this:

hope monster hunter 2nd g comes out for canada soon.
@Does Not Equal:
The Japanese version was filled with bugs, that's why they released PLUS. Fixed bugs, new Survival Mode and Full Voice Story mode. The US version of the game has all the bugs FIXED though. Unless you are into Voice Actors, is really not that great to import just for that. If you have a Original Japanese Accent Core, the appendex version of PLUS is cheap though. You only need to have a save of the original game, swap it the first time, and then you don't need to swap disks anymore.
I wish the shin chan games would come out here. "To be a man you must have honor, honor and a peeeeeniiiissss!"
@VishusBurn: That would be a day one buy for me! Shin Chan FTW!!!!
1.5 million total for Brawl in Japan.
Action Bastard ftw!
Monster Hunter? Simply WOW
I'm stunned, baffled and generally dumbfounded by the obsession with the Monster Hunter series. Good for Sony and Capcom!
@Niric:
I always thought MHP2's intro to be more Epic =)
And well explains the gameplay too in the intro, so not to over-shadow your post or anything:
+ Watch video
Wow, imagine how many PS3's would be sold if Capcom wasn't a bitch and switched to the Wii. Ah well.
@Candlejack: Sequel, its pretty damn good from the demo.
@Dir_en_grey:
Damn it! SORRY FOR MULTI POSTS.
Sorry first vid had NO SOUND... Wish I can edit my posts, Here's a fixed version with sound:
+ Watch video
Great game,needs online.
@VishusBurn: Err... there's lots of Crayon Shin-chan games goingn back to the Super Famicom and Megadrive.
Also yeah, the Monster Hunter games are huge in Japan are huge, elsewhere... not so much. Played the original on PS2 for awhile but got bored with it pretty fast.
Code Pizza came out with a game? 10bux says it sucks hard.
"Should do wonders for PSP sales"
Apparently it has. Pocket Gamer is claiming that the PSP sold 138,000 systems, more than every other console combined.
Pocket Gamer
Haha way to go Monster Hunter. Though I admit, I was bored in no time with MHF2. Different strokes for different folks, eh?
@Candlejack: Rule of thumb. Almost every Armored Core game has an expansion pack. Armored Core 4: For Answer is the expansion for Armored Core 4.
It looks pretty solid, though for whatever reason it still has no US release date.
Note to self: when releasing a game in Japan, always put "monster" in the title.
@Niric: @Dir_en_grey: Thanks for the vids. That actually looks better than I thought it would. I imagine it would be pretty epic if it as turned into an MMO, I've never bothered to play an MMO before but if they made it like that then I would be sold.
@Oyn:
I didn't know that... That is neat.
Have any seen a US release?
i wonder how big MGS4 will be.
I want more Monster Hunter in America. Non Sony versions as I don't own a PSP yet.
Code Geass had a game? omGAH! R2 coming soon.
Monster Hunter...
@LittleBigPlaneteer: Capcom is in the business of selling MH, not Sony hardware. I think Capcom already did Sony a huge favor by single-handedly keeping the PSP alive with MH for a while. This isn't like your buddy owing you a six pack; these are businesses.
That being said, I do wish that MH3 was coming to PS3 or the 360, but Capcom isn't going to let the main series go to shit because it's on the Wii. If it was Monster Hunter: Rathalos Adventures or something, then all bets are off, but not a numbered sequel.
@VishusBurn: Better? Really? The slowdown and sprite explosions need improvement.
@kaish: Canada?! You get NOTHING! :P
@Balance_In_Life (PSN): The PS2 sold pretty well too.
@Dresarius: @Knight-Zero: I've downloaded & installed it now but not played yet, I shall do so within the next 15 minutes if this works alright here (new software on the PC) :)
@celery: My thoughts exactly. I'd love a PS3 or 360 version, but it's not like I think the Wii version is going to suck hard.
Is monster hunter even that good? It seems to get pretty average reviews.
I sad, why no Monster Hunter for stupid United States :(
lol I kid, I like the MH series, just wish it took on here.
The sequels of course, for the consoles.
