Good news for those just dying for a shot at virtual lounging around and furniture collection: The PSN's senior director, Susan Panico, has told the Official PlayStation mag that Sony will be "opening up the Home beta to the public very soon". Up til now Home's only been accessible to a select few early beta testers, so this is welcome news for the rest of us plebs, especially in the wake of Warhawk's freshly-added Home content. Before you ask, yes, that's pretty much all she said. No further details - such as a timeframe or whether this means North America and Europe - were revealed.

Why can't they just give us a date? I'm tired of waiting.
@Noks415:
Because if they did, and then it was delayed, people would bitch so much it'd break the interwebs.
Patience is a virtue.
I doubt it would break the interwebs. I think the amount of time people can wait to walk around virtually and talk to fake people virtually is infinite.
Poor Aussies... they apparently aren't even on the radar anymore.
yessss. gimmegimmegimmee!
it will sure make setting up online matches more interesting.
believe it or not, i DO think seeing a physical representation of your friend is more interesting than looking at a screen-name in a lobby.
and while you wait for 16 friends to all get online for some GTA4, how about playing some bowling together, or whatever.
what about after the game... in real life you'd just go chill somewhere.. maybe home can introduce that kind of a dynamic.
maybe it wont, but im very excited to find out.
@PlayerX:
Like they ever were.
If we wait over a year for something, and Sony shows it off as if it were done (see your local PS3 kiosk), then yeah... they owe us a date.
Whoop dee doo. I'll be playing my video games.
Don't know if i'm gonna like Home or not, oh well it's free
@PlayerX: They lump us with Europe
I want to believe them, but it's just gonna end up being delayed yet again.
Man, I cannot wait to have a virtual lawn, and then sit on my porch and yell at the virtual kids virtually loitering on it.
I hope this comes very quickly. I need my home and get ready to join in some cod4 ownage. Well I hope Socom takes advantage of home. It will be great. I can't wait.
Would be funny seeing it raided with afros in suits to crash 'Home'..
+ Watch video
Home is one of those urban myth things, I swear. One of those greatly amazing things that just get pushed back until everyone forgets...like Duke Nukem Forever, hence the name 'forever'.
In all seriousness tho.
I'm excited, Home feels like regardless of how you see it, it's optional and free, so you can't pass it up.
Who needs Home when we'll all have GTA IV within a month?
Can you steal cop cars, bang hookers, or drink and drive in Home?
No? Well then I guess I don't really care.
@[KU]Shindokie: Check My Message for 5 Of on GTP: All of Sony's games will be integrated.
Don't hold your breath for third parties to patch existing games.
@Crosswayboy:
Who needs GTA IV when we'll all have Mario Kart within a month?
I do.
Jesus Christ, how am I going to afford all these games...
Wouldn't it be nice if the planned PSN Store downtime was all leading up to Home's launch? It definitely isn't, but it'd be nice if it was...
@[KU]Shindokie: Check My Message for 5 Of on GTP: Ownage in CoD4? Right... you keep on dreaming buddy. Ohhh and in Socom well, you don't stand a snowflake's chance in hell against me buddy.
In other news: See like I said earlier on the Warhawk patch thread. It's right around the corner. I'm saying just a couple more weeks. Before the end of April thats for sure.
Home should release so i can then proceed to actually use my PS3.
The only 2 games i havnt played on it that arnt already on the 360 are Resistance and Warhawk and only because i don't have a mic yet and i dont like playing with people without a mic. Although i hear not many people in Playstation land us eone anyways.
@Balance_In_Life (PSN): Yeah that's why I'm always on top of you at the end of a match. :D I need to get a 1 vs 1 to end this feud! Also Socom is going to be great.
Strange to hear anything about Home and not see Phil Harrison's name somewhere in the story.. :(
It has to be soon why advertise the feature in Warhawk so much if we cannot use it.
@[KU]Shindokie: Check My Message for 5 Of on GTP: Yeah I personally can't wait for Socom. Plus with GT5, MSG4, White Knight Story and Resistance 2 are going to make me a very happy geek for 2008.
@[KU]Shindokie: Check My Message for 5 Of on GTP: OHHH AND BTW, score means nothing. I have the rank. So don't give me none of that jibba jabba foo. :D
Now the whole planet fanboy thinks that Home will start with the relaunch of the onlineshop. If it does not they will get laughed at and ridiculed, I hope they knew that when saying this.
On the other hand, shop relaunch + WipeoutHD + Home sounds reasonably strong.
@ArmyofJuan: Exactly I could care less who you are where you live when i play with or against you in a video game. I'm not on there to play against with you to make friends im there to kill you.
If your talking your not doing your Job.
I'd like to see what home will actually bring us players and how many more will Bandwagon.
@Jopan: Jesus...
And my family wonders why I can never sleep at night.
this time it could be it. (or not) :D Warhawk getting home patch already, random homebetatrial.com site, psn store update. random things are happening.
Seeing as Home is being written here in the UK by Sony's London studio, a bit of Euro-release lovin' would be nice.
@Jopan: Wow!!
You must be real lonely. Sniff...
@Dappa: Not really I play online split screen with Friends Not that i don't say anything. I just do it with the people in the room Sorry to give the wrong impresion.
Haha I'm already in the current Beta so nerr!
I've been on the Beta for almost a year now... it's not as exciting as you might think...
@WodeRaider:
You don't have any game interaction.(Current titles)You are limited into what you can add to your space right now and you have the standard apartment,etc.So I don't think it's a great approximation of the final product.
This being a beta how many people are going to get it and freak out when not everything they expected is available to them?
I wouldn't be surprised if the current two week PSN store hiatus has something to do with Home. Maybe they're building out Home servers at the same time.
And I need a PS3 very soon... if only they didn't cost so much here... =_=
At this point, I'll believe it when it's installing on my PS3. Until then, it's more hot hair from Sony's PR department.
I'm not looking forward to release home. Sony has a lot of stuff they're gonna need to put in to meet all these crazy dreams people are coming up with.
It's going to be a sad day for playstation fans when they find out "...what is this, i am tired of "it's here but we're gonna patch in what people want".
but pool/bowling in it are surprisingly very fun.
I can't wait for home to be released....i'll get it as soon as it's out. But something tells me Sony isn't going to keep its word :/
Think someone else said it right when they said, I'll believe it when I'm installing it. Been looking foward to it ever since its been anounced but not gonna get my hopes up unless there is some kinda clearer indication.
For me I'm just looking for the social interaction that will come with this.
home will be out soon... warhawk 1.3 has included a home community update. didn't need to if it was going to be a while ... also the ps store is due in the next couple weeks. I wouldn't be surprised if it was at the same time. keep the faith because it will revolutionise gaming interaction and create a more sociable community! I am willing to wait ... we could be doing this live right now.
I understand that a virtual consistant world. But I just get so impatient. If you think HOME is gonna have great graphics you ALL need to see is what's comming to the Windows PC on 2009 for US. It a virtual world social network that is using the Unreal Engine 3....here's the link.You might need a plug-in to view the high res video.

You know its funny. Months ago all you had was people saying that this wasn't a huge deal and they didn't know if they would use it at all. Now some of those same people are ready to die if they don't get their hands on it ASAP.
i agree with all of the above..... its like tell us a date, or don't bring it up at all.
i mean sony is on a roll this year, this whole not knowing when home is coming is the only thing fucking up their hot streak that they are on. but what ever... i'll be playing games, wake me up when home comes to ps3.
@JorgieX: that video did not impress me that much more than what home is doing. and plus home is gonna be on a console. this is for pc users, which have a million options when it comes to online community. and plus home will be intergrated with ps3 games which is already a plus.
The biggest issue I have with the PS3 is the lack of a good online service. I have been excited about home since I first heard of it. I fear thought that after the long wait home will not live up to our expectations. Much like the prequal Star Wars films. I do have a friend who has been a Beta tester of Home and I do have to say that the environment looks realy nice. especially on HD but again I think Sony has a lot to live up to.
wtf is the point of home?
Too bad "very soon" can be anything from "within the week" to "within the next 3 months" with Sony. Recall that Wipeout HD was due out in "early 08" and it's APRIL. I would hope that they'd release Home this Thursday to offset the store redesign for the next two weeks. But, I think it's more likely we see Home when the store launches on the 17th. Might be quite a launch with a new store, Home, and gt prologue.
